Card Rulings:Labrynth Barrage
OCG Rulings
- This card cannot be activated during the Damage Step.[1]
- When you activate a Set Normal Trap Card other than "Labrynth Barrage", you can activate this card directly in Chain. When resolving this effect, apply the effect that happens at activation of the card in the previous Chain Link.[1]
- Even when you activate a Normal Trap Card that requires a cost to activate, you can activate this card directly in Chain. In this case, you do not pay that cost when this card is activated.[1]
- Even when you activate a Normal Trap Card that targets, you can activate this card directly in Chain. In that case, you also choose the target when this card is activated.[1]
- Even when you activate a Normal Trap Card that can only be activated once per turn or a Normal Trap Card that can only be used once per turn, you can activate this card directly in Chain.[1]
Q&A Rulings
- Q: Can I activate "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", or "Transaction Rollback" by targeting a Normal Trap Card such as "Burst Breath" whose effect resolution changes depending on the cost? Also, can I activate "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain to the activation of a Normal Trap Card such as "Burst Breath"?
- A: No, you cannot. The effects of those cards only apply the effect resolution listed in the other Normal Trap Card that happens when that card is activated. You must meet the activation conditions listed on that Normal Trap Card, but you do not pay the costs listed on that Normal Trap Card. "Burst Breath" is a Normal Trap Card that requires the ATK of the monster Tributed as a cost to resolve. Therefore, the effect that happens when "Burst Breath" is activated cannot be applied by the effect of "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", "Transaction Rollback", or "Labrynth Barrage". You also cannot activate the 2nd effect of "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Burst Breath", and you cannot activate the effect of "Junk Collector" by banishing "Burst Breath".[2]
- Q: Can I activate "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", or "Transaction Rollback" by targeting a Normal Trap Card such as "Traptrix Holeutea" that Special Summons itself to the Monster Zone after activation? Also, can I activate "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain to the activation of a Normal Trap Card such as "Traptrix Holeutea"?
- A: No, you cannot. You also cannot activate the 2nd effect of "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Traptrix Holeutea", and you cannot activate the effect of "Junk Collector" by banishing "Traptrix Holeutea".[3]
- Q: Can I activate "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", or "Transaction Rollback" by targeting a Normal Trap Card such as "Altergeist Manifestation" that becomes an Equip Card after activation? Can I activate "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain to the activation of a Normal Trap Card such as "Altergeist Manifestation"? Can I activate the effect of "Junk Collector" by banishing "Altergeist Manifestation"?
Can I activate "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", or "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Kunai with Chain"? Can I activate "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain to the activation of "Kunai with Chain"? Can I activate the effect of "Junk Collector" by banishing "Kunai with Chain"?
- Q: Can I activate "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", or "Transaction Rollback" by targeting a Normal Trap Card such as "Altergeist Manifestation" that becomes an Equip Card after activation? Can I activate "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain to the activation of a Normal Trap Card such as "Altergeist Manifestation"? Can I activate the effect of "Junk Collector" by banishing "Altergeist Manifestation"?
- A: You cannot activate "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", or "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Altergeist Manifestation", and you cannot activate "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain to the activation of "Altergeist Manifestation". You also cannot activate the 2nd effect of "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Altergeist Manifestation", and you cannot activate the effect of "Junk Collector" by banishing "Altergeist Manifestation".
Since "Kunai with Chain" has the effect "● When an opponent's monster declares an attack: Target the attacking monster; change that target to Defense Position", you can activate "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", or "Transaction Rollback" (including the 2nd effect) by targeting "Kunai with Chain", you can activate "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain to "Kunai with Chain", and you can activate the effect of "Junk Collector" by banishing "Kunai with Chain". If you do, apply the resolution "change that target to Defense Position". (You cannot apply the resolution "equip this card to that target. It gains 500 ATK.")[4]
- Q: Can I activate "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", or "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow", which Sets itself face-down after activation instead of being sent to the Graveyard? Also, can I activate "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain to the activation of "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow"?
Can I activate the 2nd effect of "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow"? Also, can I activate the effect of "Junk Collector" by banishing "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow"?
- Q: Can I activate "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", or "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow", which Sets itself face-down after activation instead of being sent to the Graveyard? Also, can I activate "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain to the activation of "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow"?
- A: Yes, you can. At resolution, the attack is negated.
If there is a card activation (the resolution is applied by "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", "Labrynth Barrage", or the 1st effect of "Transaction Rollback"), "Set this card face-down instead of sending it to the GY" is also applied.
If there is no card activation (the resolution is applied by "Junk Collector" or the 2nd effect of "Transaction Rollback"), "Set this card face-down instead of sending it to the GY" is not applied.[5]
- Q: Can I activate "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", or "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Xyz Reborn"? Also, can I activate "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain to the activation of "Xyz Reborn"?
Can I activate the 2nd effect of "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Xyz Reborn"? Also, can I activate the effect of "Junk Collector" by banishing "Xyz Reborn"?
- Q: Can I activate "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", or "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Xyz Reborn"? Also, can I activate "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain to the activation of "Xyz Reborn"?
- A: Yes, you can. At resolution, the activated "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", "Transaction Rollback", or "Labrynth Barrage" is attached to the Special Summoned Xyz Monster as Xyz Material.
However, you cannot activate the 2nd effect of "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Xyz Reborn", and you cannot activate the effect of "Junk Collector" by banishing "Xyz Reborn".[6]
- Q: Can I activate "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", or "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Pharaoh's Treasure"? Also, can I activate "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain to "Pharaoh's Treasure"?
- A: No, you cannot. You also cannot activate the 2nd effect of "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Pharaoh's Treasure", and you cannot activate the effect of "Junk Collector" by banishing "Pharaoh's Treasure".[7]
- Q: Can I activate "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", or "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Fuse Line"? Also, can I activate "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain to the activation of "Fuse Line"?
Can I activate the 2nd effect of "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Fuse Line"? Also, can I activate the effect of "Junk Collector" by banishing "Fuse Line"?
- Q: Can I activate "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", or "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Fuse Line"? Also, can I activate "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain to the activation of "Fuse Line"?
- A: As long as there is another card in the same column, you can activate "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", or "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Fuse Line", and you can activate "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain to the activation of "Fuse Line". (You also choose the target to be destroyed at that time.)
However, since "Fuse Line" is a Normal Trap Card that can only be activated while it is Set in the Spell & Trap Zone, you cannot activate the 2nd effect of "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Fuse Line", and you cannot activate the effect of "Junk Collector" by banishing "Fuse Line".[8]
- Q: Can I activate "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", or "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Extinction on Schedule"? Also, can I activate "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain to the activation of "Extinction on Schedule"?
Can I activate the 2nd effect of "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Extinction on Schedule"? Also, can I activate the effect of "Junk Collector" by banishing "Extinction on Schedule"?
- Q: Can I activate "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", or "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Extinction on Schedule"? Also, can I activate "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain to the activation of "Extinction on Schedule"?
- A: As long as it is during either player's Main Phase, you can activate "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", or "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Extinction on Schedule", and you can activate "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain to the activation of "Extinction on Schedule". If you do, at the end of the 3rd Battle Phase after activation, "make both players send all cards they control to the Graveyard" is applied as usual.
However, you cannot activate the 2nd effect of "Transaction Rollback" by targeting "Extinction on Schedule", and you cannot activate the effect of "Junk Collector" by banishing "Extinction on Schedule".[9]
- Q: I activated "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain to an "Eradicator Epidemic Virus" that was activated by declaring Spell Card. In this case, is the effect of "Labrynth Barrage" forced to destroy Spell Cards? Or can the effect also destroy Trap Cards?
- A: It can destroy either Spell Cards or Trap Cards. In this case, when "Labrynth Barrage" is activated, you declare 1 type of card (Spell or Trap) again. You do not need to declare the same type as the type declared by the "Eradicator Epidemic Virus" activated in the previous Chain Link. When resolving "Labrynth Barrage", apply the effect resolution listed on "Eradicator Epidemic Virus" to the type declared when "Labrynth Barrage" was activated.
Similarly, if you activate "Trap of Darkness", "Fake Feather", or "Transaction Rollback" (including the 2nd effect) by targeting "Eradicator Epidemic Virus", or if you activate the effect of "Junk Collector" by banishing "Eradicator Epidemic Virus", you declare 1 type of card (Spell or Trap) again at activation.[10]
- Q: While "Labrynth Labyrinth" is face-up, I activated "Welcome Labrynth", and then I activated "Labrynth Barrage" in Chain. When resolving the effect of "Labrynth Barrage", the effect resolution that happens when "Welcome Labrynth" is activated is applied, but can I add the "●" effect of "Labrynth Labyrinth" to the resolution of "Labrynth Barrage"?
- A: No, you cannot. The effect resolution that is applied is the effect resolution listed on "Welcome Labrynth", but even in that case, since the name of the activated card is "Labrynth Barrage", it is not considered the activation of a Set "Welcome Labrynth" Normal Trap Card.[11]
