OCG Rulings
Q&A Rulings
- Q: If "Elemental HERO Wildheart" is targeted to activate "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade", how does this resolve?
- A: The effects of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" that prevent the targeted monster from attacking and that negates its effects affect the targeted monster. Since "Elemental HERO Wildheart" is unaffected by Trap Cards, it is not affected by those effects, but the effect that prevents it from being targeted for attacks is applied normally.[1]
- Q: You control a "The Phantom Knights of Broken Sword" targeted by a face-up "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" in your Spell & Trap Zone. In this case, can an opponent's "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon" that was affected by the effect of "Forbidden Lance" target that "The Phantom Knights of Broken Sword" for an attack?
- A: The effect of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" that prevents the monster from being targeted for attacks is an effect that affects other monsters than the targeted monsters. In the proposed scenario, since the opponent's "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon" is unaffected by Trap Cards by the effect of "Forbidden Lance", it is not affected by the effect of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" that prevents it from targeting "The Phantom Knights of Broken Sword" for an attack, so "The Phantom Knights of Broken Sword" can be targeted for an attack.[2]
- Q: When my opponent's "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon" attacks my "Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon", if I activate "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" during the Battle Step, targeting "Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon", how does the battle proceed?
- A: In this scenario, if the effects of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" are applied to a monster being attacked, the battle and damage calculation proceed normally. (Since the effect of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" only prevents the targeted monster from being targeted for attacks, if the attack was already declared, a replay does not occur, nor does the attack become a direct attack.)[3]
- Q: When my opponent's "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon" attacks my "Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon", if I activate "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" during the Battle Step, targeting "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon", how does the battle proceed?
- A: In this scenario, if the effects of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" are applied to an attacking monster, the attack ends and damage calculation is not performed. (No replay occurs.)[4]
- Q: The opponent controls a face-up "Macro Cosmos" and you don't have any Continuous Trap Cards in your Graveyard. In this case, if your hand consists of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" and "The Phantom Knights of Shadow Veil", can you activate "Booby Trap E" discarding "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade"?
- A: In the proposed scenario, the only Continuous Trap Card in your hand and Graveyard is the "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" in your hand. Also, since the effect of "Macro Cosmos" is being applied and cards discarded are not sent to the Graveyard and are banished instead, in this case "Booby Trap E" can be activated, but "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" cannot be chosen to be discarded. ("Booby Trap E" can be activated by discarding "The Phantom Knights of Shadow Veil")[5]
- Q: Can a Continuous Trap Card be discarded to activate "Booby Trap E"?
- A: You must have 1 or more Continuous Trap Cards in your hand or Graveyard to activate "Booby Trap E". For example, if you activate "Booby Trap E" discarding a "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade", you can also choose to set the "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" that was discarded and sent to the Graveyard on the field.[6]
- Q: If "Book of Moon" is activated in a chain to the activation of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade", so that the targeted monster is changed to face-down Defense Position, how does this resolove? Also, if the effect of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" is being applied and "Book of Moon" is activated, changing the targetted monster to face-down Defense Position, does the effect stop applying?
- A: If "Book of Moon" is activated in a chain to the activaton of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade", changing the targeted monster to face-down Defense Position, since that monster is no longer targeted by the effect of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade", the effect is not applied. (That Phantom-Fogblade remains face-up in a Monster Zone) Also, if the effect of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" is being applied and the targeted monstr is changed to face-down Defense Position, since that monster is no longer targeted by the effect of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade", the effect of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" is no longer applied. (That "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" remains face-up in a Monster Zone)[7]
- Q: If a face-up Effect Monster the opponent controls is targeted to activate a set "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" in your Spell & Trap Zone, how does this resolve?
- A: Even in that case, the effect is applied normally. The opponent's monster targeted for "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" cannot attack, you cannot the monster targeted by "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" for an atack, and the targeted monster has its effects negated by "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade". (Afterwards, when the monster targeted by "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" leaves the field, "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" is destroyed)[8]
- Q: If "Royal Decree" is activated in a chain to the activation of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" targeting a "The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots", how does this resolve? Also, if there is a face-up "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" in the Spell & Trap Zone targeting a "The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots" and "Royal Decree" is activated, what happens with the applied effect?
- A: Even if the effect of "Royal Decree" is applied in a chain to the activation of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade", the monster targeted for the activation ("The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots", in this case) remains targeted. (Afterwards, providing the effect of "Royal Decree" is no longer applied, the effects of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" are applied once again). Also, even if the effects of a face-up "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" in the Spell & Trap Zone are later negated by the effect of "Royal Decree", the monster targeted for the activation ("The Phantom Knights of Silent Boots", in this case) remains targeted. (Afterwards, providing the effect of "Royal Decree" is no longer applied, the effects of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" are applied once again)[9]
- Q: Can a Gemini Monster treated as a Normal Monster be targeted to activate "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade"?
- A: "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" is activated targeting a face-up Effect Monster in a Monster Zone. It cannot be activated targeting a Gemini Monster that is treated as an Effect Monster. (Providing it is Normal Summoned again, and it is treated as an Effect Monster, "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" can be activated targeting that monster)[10]
- Q: If the only monster you control is a "The Phantom Knights of Broken Sword" that has been affected by the effect of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade", can the opponent's monsters declare direct attacks?
- A: In that case, it cannot be targeted for an attack by the opponent’s monsters and they cannot perform direct attacks either. (In the proposed scenario, "The Phantom Knights of Broken Sword" cannot be targeted for an attack, and a direct attack cannot be performed to the player either). Furthermore, providing there is a monster like "Raidraptor - Blaze Falcon" that has an effect that allows it to attack directly even while there are monsters, a direct attack can be performed. (In the proposed scenario, "The Phantom Knights of Broken Sword" cannot be targeted for an attack, but a "Raidraptor - Blaze Falcon" with Xyz Materials can perform a direct attack to the player directly).[11]
- Q: A "Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon" was Xyz Summoned using 2 Level 4 monsters including a "The Phantom Knights of Fragile Armor" that was targeted for the effect of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade". In this case, what happens with "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade"? Also, if that "The Phantom Knights of Fragile Armor" that became an Xyz Material is later detached to activate the effect of "Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon", what happens with "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade"?
- A: If the monster targeted for "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" becomes an Xyz Material, the effect that that prevents it from attacked, being targeted for an attack and that negates its effects is no longer applied, and that "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" remains face-up in the Spell & Trap Zone. Also, if a monster on the field is used as an Xyz Material for an Xyz Summon, that monster is not treated as leaving the field. The effect that destroys "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" when that monster leaves the field is not applied either. (After that targeted monster becomes an Xyz Material, if it is detached and sent to the Graveyard, the effect that destroys "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" is not applied)[12]
