Mentions in Other Rulings
- Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind: If a monster with 1000 ATK gains 700 ATK from “Rush Recklessly” until the end of the turn, and is then targeted by “Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind”, its ATK is now 850, and remains 850 even after “Rush Recklessly” expires.
- Power Frame: If Rush Recklessly is Chained to Power Frame making the attack target monster's ATK greater than the attacking monster's ATK, you'll still increase the equipped monster's ATK by the new difference.
OCG Rulings
- During the Damage Step, cards like "Rush Recklessly" can only be activated before damage calculation. You cannot activate "Rush Recklessly" in Chain to the effect of "Injection Fairy Lily" which activates during damage calculation.[1]
- After the Monster's ATK has been reduced to 0, its ATK may be changed normally.[2]
- Example: If "Rush Recklessly" is later activated, the monster's ATK will be 700.
- If "Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind" targets a "Sangan" affected by "Rush Recklessly" (1700 ATK), its ATK will become 850. During the End Phase, when "Rush Recklessly" is no longer applied, the ATK of "Sangan" will remain at 850.[3]
- If "Rush Recklessly" targets a "Sangan" affected by "Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind" (500 ATK), the ATK of "Sangan" will be 1200.[4]
- When "Rush Recklessly" and "Ally of Justice Unlimiter" both affect "Ally of Justice Catastor",[5]
- If "Rush Recklessly" is activated first and then the effect of "Ally of Justice Unlimiter" is activated, then the ATK of "Ally of Justice Catastor" will be 4400 - its Original ATK, doubled.[5]
- If the effect of "Ally of Justice Unlimiter" is activated first and then "Rush Recklessly" is activated, then the ATK of "Ally of Justice Catastor" will be 5100.[5]
- If a monster is affected by "Rush Recklessly"/"Limiter Removal"/etc and then receives the effect of "Ojama Country", then the monster's Original ATK and DEF are exchanged, and then the effect of "Rush Recklessly" etc is reapplied.[6]
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Des Volstgalph: Suppose that "Des Volstgalph" battles, and "Rush Recklessly" is activated during the Damage Step. After "Rush Recklessly" resolves and increases the ATK by 700, the effect of "Des Volstgalph" is applied and its ATK increases by 200. Afterwards, you perform damage calculation.[7]
- Inferno Reckless Summon: If a card like "Rush Recklessly" is Chained to "Inferno Reckless Summon" so that the Special Summoned monster has 1501+ ATK at resolution, then "Inferno Reckless Summon" still resolves properly and Special Summons monsters with the same name.[8]
- Machine Duplication: If "Rush Recklessly" is Chained to "Machine Duplication" so that the targeted monster has 501+ ATK at resolution, then you still Special Summon monsters with the same name.[9]
Previously Official Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been declared unofficial by Konami.[10] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise. Mentions in Other Rulings
- 8-Claws Scorpion: The ATK of "8-Claws Scorpion" becomes 2400 during damage calculation. You cannot chain "Rush Recklessly" ... to this effect. If these cards were activated before damage calculation, then the ATK of "8-Claws Scorpion" becomes 2400 during damage calculation so those cards have no effect on its ATK.
- Arcana Force I - The Magician: If "Arcana Force I - The Magician" is affected by a Spell Card that changes its ATK, like ... “Rush Recklessly,” first the Spell Card’s effect is applied, then “Arcana Force I – The Magician’s” effect is applied, changing its current ATK to twice its original ATK, or 2200.
- Blast Magician: If "Rush Recklessly" is chained to the effect of "Blast Magician", and the ATK of the target monster is now higher than 700 x the number of Spell Counters removed, the effect of "Blast Magician" disappears. You cannot remove additional Spell Counters to increase the effect.
- Cyber Laser Dragon: The ATK or DEF of the targeted monster must be greater than (or equal to) the ATK of "Cyber Laser Dragon" when the effect resolves in order for it to be destroyed. Example: You target "Jinzo" with this card's effect. The opponent chains "Rush Recklessly" to raise "Cyber Laser Dragon's" ATK to 3100. "Jinzo" is not destroyed.
- Cyber Tutu: If "Cyber Tutu" uses her effect to attack directly, you can activate "Rush Recklessly" during the DAMAGE STEP, and even if it raises her ATK higher than the ATK of an opponent's monster a replay will not occur. But if you activate "Rush Recklessly" during the BATTLE STEP, a replay will occur.
- Dark Scorpion Combination: When you attack with "Dark Scorpion Combination", the Battle Damage is 400 points for each Dark Scorpion, even if their ATK's are changed by..."Rush Recklessly", etc...
- Elemental HERO Mariner: If your only face-down card is "Rush Recklessly", you can attack directly, and then during the DAMAGE STEP, activate "Rush Recklessly" and the direct attack will continue. This is because Replays do not usually occur during the Damage Step.
- Freed the Brave Wanderer: If your opponent chains "Rush Recklessly" to "Freed the Brave Wanderer"'s effect to increase "Freed the Brave Wanderer"'s ATK by 700 points, and the ATK of the target monster is now lower than "Freed the Brave Wanderer"'s ATK when its effect resolves, the target monster is not destroyed.
- Gemini Counter: If your opponent attacks your face-down Gemini Monster and activates a card like "Rush Recklessly" during the Damage Step, you can Chain with "Gemini Counter." If you do, the Spell Card will be negated and the attack target monster will be flipped face-up again immediately.
- Goggle Golem: If "Goggle Golem" gains ATK from "Rush Recklessly", etc. and then is Normal Summoned again, the ATK increase is recalculated after applying its new original ATK.
- Heart of Clear Water: If a monster equipped with this card has its ATK increased over 1299, by the effect of "Rush Recklessly", etc., this card is destroyed.
- Imperial Order: "Imperial Order" cannot be activated in the Damage Step, so you cannot activate it to negate "Rush Recklessly", etc. in the Damage Step.
- Obnoxious Celtic Guard: "Obnoxious Celtic Guard"'s effect looks at the ATK during Damage Calculation. ... Or if an 1800 monster attacks and you use "Rush Recklessly" to increase the ATK to 2500 during the Damage Step, "Obnoxious Celtic Guardian" is not destroyed.
- Secret Pass to the Treasures: If the monster attacks your opponent's Life Points directly, you cannot use an effect such as "Rush Recklessly" to increase its ATK above 1000 during the attack. If a monster attacks directly using the effect of "Secret Pass to the Treasures", "automatic" increases will not apply ("Super Robolady", etc.).
- Spirit Reaper: If "Spirit Reaper" is destroyed by its effect during the Damage Step, such as if "Rush Recklessly" was activated to increase its ATK, destroy "Spirit Reaper" with its effect AFTER damage calculation.
- Twin-Shield Defender: If "Rush Recklessly" is activated after "Twin-Shield Defender's" effect resolves, the ATK gained from "Rush Recklessly" is not halved.
- Unstable Evolution: If the equipped monster gains 700 ATK with "Rush Recklessly" and afterwards "Unstable Evolution" is removed from the field or negated, etc., the monster's original ATK returns to normal and "Rush Recklessly" is reapplied.
