Card Rulings:The Reliable Guardian
OCG Rulings
- When resolving the effect of "Blackwing - Silverwind the Ascendant", if a targeted monster has a higher DEF than the ATK of "Blackwing - Silverwind the Ascendant" - for example, if an effect like "Castle Walls" or "The Reliable Guardian" is Chained - the that targeted monster is not destroyed. If the effect of "Blackwing - Silverwind the Ascendant" targets two monsters and, at resolution, only one of the monsters has a higher DEF than the ATK of "Blackwing - Silverwind the Ascendant", then the other monster is still destroyed.[1]
Previously Official Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been declared unofficial by Konami.[2] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise. Mentions in Other Rulings
- Dawnbreak Gardna: If "Dawnbreak Gardna" gains DEF from "The Reliable Guardian", etc. and then is Normal Summoned again, the DEF increase is recalculated after applying its new original DEF.
- Disc Fighter: When "Disc Fighter" attacks a face-down monster, after it is flipped face-up you can use "Micro Ray" to cause the DEF to go below 2000, and the monster will not be destroyed by "Disc Fighter"'s effect. Or, you can use "The Reliable Guardian" to increase the DEF of a monster above 2000 so that it will be destroyed with "Disc Fighter"'s effect.
