Duel Academy Quiz, from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3.

Duel Academy Quiz, known as Quiz Duel Academy in the Japanese version (クイズデュエルアカデミー, Kuizu Dyueru Akademī), is one of the Free Mini Games featured in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 2 and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3. It is always played when the player attends an exam at Duel Academy, which happen once every 15 days in Tag Force 2 and once every 10 days in Tag Force 3.

Gameplay[edit]

As the name implies, the game is a simple quiz of numerous questions within a time limit of 120 seconds where the player simply has to select one of the two answers; only one of them will be correct. The questions simply consist of a card's image being shown and the answers are the card's various properties (card name, ATK/DEF, Type, Card type, Level etc.) The player can select the top or bottom answer by pressing Triangle or Cross respectively.

By answering questions correctly, the player will gain points. The earned point values increase if the player gives correct answers to questions in succession. After correctly answering 5 questions in a row, the Problem Level increases, which changes the answers to card categories other than card names. The Problem Level will continue increasing up until Level 8. If the player answers incorrectly, the timer will be deducted by 5 seconds and the points earned from correctly answering questions are reset to one.

The game finishes once the time limit expires. The player will then receive DP and Duelist Level EXP depending on the player's quiz score.

Scoring[edit]

Score per problem is [streak number] + 1. The very first question answered correctly is worth 1 point, the second one is worth 2 points, and so on. If the player answers incorrectly, the streak will be broken and reset.

The player earns 1/10 of their final score as DP, and 1/250 of their final score as EXP. Both numbers are rounded down if necessary.

Practical Test[edit]

If the player plays the minigame in Story Mode, following the written test above, the player and their partner will have to undergo practical examination as well, which consists of a Tag Duel against one of the ten pairs of opponents below, selected at random. If one of the characters in a pair cannot appear as an opponent due to being the player's partner, each pair has a third character available as a replacement.

First opponent Second opponent Substitute opponent
Jaden Yuki Tyranno Hassleberry Blair Flannigan
Aster Phoenix Syrus Truesdale Jasmine
Jesse Andersen Adrian Gecko Chazz Princeton
Jim Crocodile Cook Axel Brodie Mindy
Gillian Aite Shannon
Rio Loggy Rei
Swin Deron Vyga
Marcel Rune Colin
Seydina Rock Nova
Cherry Yuma Bright

In Tag Force 3, the versions of Jaden Yuki, Blair Flannigan, Syrus Truesdale and Chazz Princeton that appear as opponents depend on the player's partner, and Jim Crocodile Cook uses a specific Deck as an opponent.

Story Mode Gift[edit]

Following the practical test, the game will add together the player's score during the written test and the various DP bonuses earned by the player's team during the duel, not counting Duelist Bonus, Clear Bonus and Level Bonus, and if the combined score is higher than 1000 points, the player is given one of the following choices as a gift, if applicable.

Player choice Requirement Effect
I want a card! Default Gives the player 5 cards from random packs available in the Store, even if the pack has not been unlocked. This option is not available if the player's score is 4000 or higher.
I want to stengthen my bond with my partner! 1100 points Improves the player's relationship with their partner by roughly one fifth of a heart.
I want some DP! 1300 points Gives the player 5000 DP.
I want to REALLY strengthen my bond with my partner! 1600 points Improves the player's relationship with their partner by roughly half of a heart.
I want a rare card! 3000 points Gives the player 3 cards from random packs available in the Store, even if the pack has not been unlocked. The game chooses randomly between Super Rare and Ultra Rare cards. It may include cards from packs with no Super Rare or Ultra Rare cards in Tag Force 2, and it may include Common cards from Simple is Best and Spice Up Your Deck in Tag Force 3.
I want a pack of cards! 4000 points Unlocks for purchase a Booster Pack in the Store that is not currently available.

Unlocking a new Booster Pack in Tag Force 2 cannot unlock Sadie's Special Pack, Ms. Dorothy's Special Pack, Champion's Pack, Crush On You, Midday Constellation, Double Triple Destiny Draw or Checkered Flag.

In Tag Force 3, the option can unlock any Booster Pack. However, this can be affected by a glitch.
if the player has unlocked either Sadie's Special Pack or Ms. Dorothy's Special Pack, but not both of them, and the shopkeeper at the counter is not the character that allows the player to purchase the pack that appears in the Store (i.e. Sadie's Special Pack is visible but Dorothy is selling Booster Packs at the counter), and there are no packs before it left to be unlocked, choosing to unlock a new pack will not have any effect.
This glitch can be addressed by unlocking both Sadie's Special Pack or Ms. Dorothy's Special Pack, be it by meeting their unlocking criteria or by asking to unlock a new pack when their associated character is selling Booster Packs at the counter.
If both Sadie's Special Pack or Ms. Dorothy's Special Pack are visible in the Store, choosing to unlock a new pack will work properly.
