Forum:Adding links to Yugioh Prices to External Links Section

From Yugipedia
Jump to: navigation, search

I've noticed that pretty much every card has a link to TCGPlayer in its external links section, and I suggest we replace these links with their equivalents on YugiohPrices.com instead.

The reasoning behind this being that the TCGPlayer link is there for helping users to identify the value for a given card, and if that's the case, Yugioh Prices would be a much better choice. It pulls prices data from TCGPlayer, Troll and Toad, eBay, Poke Order, and Amazon. It filters out non-relevant listings data, and it is kept up to date daily with prices for every version of a card that is currently available.

What does everybody think?

YGO Prices does seem to be more useful to someone and lets them know a card is falling/rising in price. I'd be cool with this. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 15:03, February 22, 2014 (UTC)

I'm not sure who (if there is any) needs to green light a change like this, but if it's all good, I can handle updating the pages in a jiffy. The only thing is that I have no idea how (or if I even can) update the external links section on a card page.

Is that something that I can edit, or does that require some sort of advanced access privileges? Jamespenguin (talkcontribs) 23:19, February 24, 2014 (UTC)

The other admins and I have been discussing this somewhat; I'm in favor and most of them seem to be more-or-less apathetic about it (though if I'm misrepresenting one of them, they should speak up). The only change really needed is updating {{CardTable2}}, but that requires admin privileges to edit since it's fully protected. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 00:12, February 25, 2014 (UTC)
I see. (Kind of.)
Is this something that could be implemented as a couple lines of code? Something like http://yugiohprices.com/card_price?name={card name}, or would it require manually inserting links for each card?
If it's the latter case, I could handle that easy peasy myself. I do all of my wiki updating via code, and could rig up something for populating TCG pages without a problem. (Assuming I had the necessary rights of course.)

It's a trivial change, and should require basically no edits for individual cards. I've mostly been waiting to see if any of the other admins had anything they wanted to say about it, in the event someone had an alternate suggestion or something, but none have really been forthcoming. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:15, February 25, 2014 (UTC)

So what's the verdict on this? Jamespenguin (talkcontribs) 08:37, February 27, 2014 (UTC)

It's done. It appears that everything's in working order, too, but let me know if you find anything that needs fixed. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 16:43, February 27, 2014 (UTC)

Cool thanks Jamespenguin (talkcontribs) 06:08, February 28, 2014 (UTC)
