Forum:Controlled as Ice/Barrier City (I can't figure out what to call it)

I seem to really have a thing for WATER decks lately, and this is no different. This deck is a fusion of two unlikely themes; Elemental Heroes and Ice Barrier monsters, meshing together into one magnificent control deck. Let's take a look.

This deck originated as a beatdown-styled deck with Absolute Zero the key monster. Because Absolute Zero gains ATK from all water monsters on the field, not just my own, I decided to include DNA Transplant to boost him up; then, I saw that Defying Troops of the Ice Barrier could destroy my opponent's WATER monsters; one thing led to another and the deck morphed into an Elemental Hero/Ice Barrier hybrid beatdown/control deck.

Here's the breakdown. In a deck that uses WATER monsters and Elemental Heroes, Ocean is a must. Ice Edge also is fairly good, because it can direct-attack and pick off an opponent's spells. Stratos is obvious, and can be considered a staple for any deck in which Heroes have even a slightly significant presence (it's used in Gladiator Beasts to search out Prisma). The last E-Hero is Woodsman, to quickly search out Polymerization.

Then come Ice Barrier monsters. Defying Troops is an awesome card; it's like a blend of Exiled Force and Reinforcement of the Army when used right. I just wish it was a Warrior like the name implied... anyways, the next one is Royal Knight, which is a no-tribute 2200 ATK monster with Legendary Ocean on the field. Of course, with Legendary Ocean on the field I can't use its effect to help out with boosting Absolute Zero, but it's still highly searchable. Bushi is also a seriously strong monster that can give me draw power if I don't need it anymore. Feng Shui Master is the lone tuner of the deck, as well as being a serious wall with the help of DNA Transplant. The last Ice Barrier monster is Medium, which is basically a much colder, much more female version of Great Shogun Shien. The last monsters are Sangan, which can search out lots of monsters in this deck, and Warrior of Atlantis, which is Legendary Ocean's field searcher and a beatstick to boot.

For spells, I've got Legendary Ocean for the WATER monsters and Polymerization for the heroes. E – Emergency Call and Reinforcement are search cards. Then, I've got staples such as Mystical Space Typhoon, Monster Reborn, and Smashing Ground. Magical Mallet is draw power. Finally, with all the low-ATK WATER monsters in the deck, Salvage is a no-brainer, recycling those monsters for re-use or discard fodder.

The main trap is, of course, DNA Transplant. It's crucial to the deck, as Absolute Zero, Defying Troops, and Feng Shui Master don't really work without it. I'm not particularly worried about giving them benefits from Legendary Ocean, because the crucial effect – the downgrading of monster levels in the hand – is kept for me. Plus, it might mess with their synchro summons (being forced to go for Goyo Guardian instead of Stardust Dragon - ouch). Then comes Ojama Trio. It can allow me to summon Medium much more easily; it gives Absolute Zero a 1500 ATK boost in tandem with DNA Surgery; and finally, it locks my opponent's monster zones. Solemn Judgment is negation. Finally, if you'll look at Absolute Zero, it says that it destroys all opponent's monsters when it leaves the field. Thus, I put in Interdimensional Matter Transporter as a surprise Raigeki when combined with that card.

Now for the extra deck. Obviously, there's Absolute Zero. Brionac, Dewloren, and Gungnir are obvious Synchro picks. Sea Dragon Lord Gishilnodon also makes the cut, because Ice Edge, Defying Troops, and Feng Shui Master all trigger its effect. Finally, I've got Terra Firma because there's Woodsman, Ocean, and Polymerization; also, it could easily go up to 4000 ATK or greater with its effect.

I think this is one of the coolest decks I've made thus far - it has a great ice theme, it blends two seemingly unrelated archetypes, it has incredible control power with Stratos, Defying Troops, Medium, DNA Transplant, Brionac and Gungnir. Plus, I can whistle "Cold as Ice" while playing it and have the song be relevant. That is a winning combination if there ever was one, in my opinion. What about in yours? Tell me what you think of this concept deck. (Oh, and can you help me decide on the name?) Runer5h 01:54, 23 May 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

looks fun

it will take time for me too see what i would do. id rid myself of terra firma and stick in stardust bc that see's more play. the 3 solemns i like but bribe might help this deck out more too. i dont like trio in the set up. thats all i can think of right now. hope i helped--Duelest 101 02:23, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Well, frankly I'd have a difficult time summoning Stardust with Legendary Ocean on the field - I'd have to tune Feng Shui Master to Medium. But I'll give myself the option. Ojama Trio I think will stay in, because it's a great card for the deck. Finally, I'm not sure that there's room for Dark Bribe... I'll think about it. Thanks. deck name

ice+heros=frozen city

Oh heck, why not. But I'll still refer to it as Barrier City or Controlled as Ice informally. Runer5h 02:36, 23 May 2009 (UTC)Runer5h
Erm... how do I change the name of this topic? Runer5h 14:29, 23 May 2009 (UTC)Runer5h
Seriously, how do I change the topic name? Runer5h 12:19, 24 May 2009 (UTC)Runer5h
You can't. >_> The Horror'Speak if you dare 16:39, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
D'oh! Oh well. Any suggestions for how to improve the deck? Runer5h 16:41, 24 May 2009 (UTC)Runer5h
Well, it's possible, only you need is to Move the topic, once you do, you can see two lines (first showed original, second give you opinion to change name) type down the name you rather (except for FORUM:, since they're requirement to be viewing) then save, you will have new topic with all stuff moved from old one. Afterward, you can put "Delete" in old one (since it's redirect, so better go to it first right after you done move it) --FredCat Ta.P.F.P.J.R.W.S.Th.P.S.C. 20:45, November 26, 2010 (UTC)

Okay, small change.

I've made proxy cards for this deck, and right away I'm finding 2 things.

  1. The deck is a bit slow - it has very little summoning power. My main problem with this is that it keeps me from abusing the Defying Troops/Transplant combo.
  2. I basically never, ever need Interdimensional Matter Transporter.

So, I'm taking out the transporters, and replacing them with another card; Double Summon. Sure, I've heard that this card messes up hand advantage, but this deck has an unnatural propensity to maintain great hand advantage, with the combined efforts of Stratos, Ocean, Woodsman, Defying Troops, Sangan, and Salvage. So it can afford to go in.

So, the deck looks like this now:

Any more suggestions? Runer5h 19:45, 8 June 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

Hey, what about Divine Fowl King Alector? Should that go in? Runer5h 01:42, 16 June 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

Erm a legendary ocean downgrades level in all players hands, not just your own hand, just clearing that up xD Lowryda24

Yes, but DNA Transplant only turns monsters that are on the field into WATER monsters. There are probably no decks that would use level 5/7 water monsters that wouldn't use legendary ocean anyway, so that is what he meant. On another note, why not use Ultimate Offering? Battlemaniac 19:25, April 24, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah Ultimate Offering is great. So broken...Just creates way to many otk's, should be banned. Anyway, Skyscraper 2 - Hero City is a good card and would create an extreme swarm aspect to the deck. Could really speed it up. I don't know about Elemental Hero Flash, though. What do you guys think?
