Okay, this scenario caused quite a bit of confusion when it occurred...
Player 1 has a Power Tool Dragon equipped with Double Tool D&C. Player 2 has a Light and Darkness Dragon that has not used its effects yet. Player 2's LaDD attacks Player 1's Power Tool Dragon.
The thing is, so many things activate in the Damage Step that we often get confused over the result. Mind helping out with a step-by-step process on what happens in this case? --Gadjiltron 09:49, February 21, 2010 (UTC)
- If you don't apply Power Tool Dragon's effect and destroy Double Tool D&C instead: Power Tool Dragon is destroyed by the battle. During the Sub-Step 7 of the Damage Step, Power Tool Dragon is sent to the Graveyard. Double Tool D&C is immediately destroyed by game mechanics. At that time, Sub-Step 7 effects are activated. Double Tool D&C is not face-up on the field at that time to activate its effect so it cannot destroy Light and Darkness Dragon.
- If you apply Power Tool Dragon's effect and destroy Double Tool D&C instead: Power Tool Dragon applies its effect during the Sub-Step 4 and chooses to destroy Double Tool D&C instead of himself (By the way, Double Tool D&C is not sent to the graveyard yet, until the Sub-Step 7). Light and Darkness Dragon cannot negate that effect since it is Continuous. During the Sub-Step 7 of the Damage Step, Double Tool D&C is sent to the Graveyard. At that time, Sub-Step 7 effects are activated. Double Tool D&C is not face-up on the field at that time to activate its effect so it cannot destroy Light and Darkness Dragon.
