Forum:Dark Magician Deck assistance

So, as you may guess, this deck is based around taking Dark magician and transforming him, with the occasional random card thrown in for good measure. The biggest problem I'm having with this deck is that It's a little bloated, at 50 cards, so it needs to be trimmed down. Also, this deck is kinda slow, and could use some speeding up. Drop Mirage Knight and related cards, it's way to hard and slow to summon (so it's more likely you'll never get it out when you'd need him), has only a semi-good effect, and only lasts one turn. Magical Hats only lasts one turn, so it's not as good as some other protective traps. It can be abused, but only when the deck is built around it, so drop that too. This will cut your deck down by a few cards

Drop Malevolent Nuzzler and add in another Mage Power

Running ritual monsters without ritual support is just slow, particularly if you're only running one of each the monster and the ritual card. I'd suggest dropping Magician of Black Chaos and the ritual card. the likely hood of getting both to your hand, as it is now, is just way too slim.

Magician's Circle and Magical Dimension are useful for swarming, I'd suggest using them a lot.

If you want a Dark Magician deck, You should probably drop the Silent Magicians and add more cards that will help you bring out Dark Magician.

Well, Magician of Black Chaos is in the deck to also help boost Dark Magician Girl's attack, so even if it can't be summoned, it can be discarded to the grave by some effect, such as Dark Paladin's. And Dark Flare Knight takes the same number of cards to summon as dark paladin, though I can see what you mean, though thing's like ready for intercepting and book of moon can make it last longer.

I'll try the deck using your suggestions, however, and see what results I get. (Though at the moment I don't have magician's circle or another mage power), Thanks. Rorschach723 00:11, April 2, 2010 (UTC)

@ Rorsch:

You're right in that Magician of black chaos can increase DMG's atk, but if you have no sure way to put it in the graveyard, it will be a dead draw more often then it will be useful for DMG.

I also realized that my suggestion to drop the Silent Magicians cuts the number of your light monsters, which would make Chaos Sorcerer harder to summon, so if you plan on dropping them, find other light types to use in their place. otherwise keep them.

I don't know how I missed it before, but Raging Flame Sprite. I don't think you'll find much good use for him in a spellcaster deck, and probably won't stay on the field for long enough to get good use of his effect.

Yeah, Raging Flame Sprite could be put into some kind of side deck instead.It's only there because of the occasional lockdown/burn deck I face, but I could keep silent magician and take it out. (My only other option is Mythical Cerberus, and I never really found it a useful low level monster)

And @ Fawlker: Interesting deck, but A) It kinda goes in a different direction from my deck, as yours focuses on Dark magician, mine focuses on his alternate forms, and B) as Rosen said, I wish "I" had magic formula and thousand knives, though a Card trader could help me out in those dead draw situations.... You're right! I build this deck long long ago, especially based on Dark Magician, and i have to improve it all the time, whether because of new cards, either because of limited cards's list. You see, awhile ago it had Dark Magician of Chaos and it's suport card Dedication through Light and Darkness, but now is forbidden. As for the new cards, we have now Crusader, Defender, synchro monsters with Arcanite, Tempest and Explosive magicians, all of them such great additions for spellcasters deck. I have also a side deck, with Skilled White Magicians and a Buster Blader, for Dark Paladin summon. I'll give you just some advice: you can run with Silent Magician LV4 (as i do), but do not use the LV8, it is f*cking hard to summon and it is a completly dead draw, and his effect is not that good. The LV4 is much more usefull, as you can use his spellcounters for something (like Defender's effect) and can get the same ATK. Well, i gess that's it. See ya, and good luck ;)!!! Oh, well today I just edited my deck once again and now it incorporates a few synchros:
