Forum:Deck Contest 1: Eatos vs Shunoros

A while ago, I proposed a contest with Messengerofthedark. We would each make a concept deck based around a card from Limited Edition Pack 15, which contains some of the most incredible anime cards that us poor blokes back in reality never dreamed we'd get to use. Well, here they are! Well, with some modifications. In any case, I picked Orichalcos Shunoros and he picked Guardian Eatos. Here's our decks; your job is to decide which one is better. I'm first; MotD will post his as soon as I'm done.

Shunoros Anti-Meta

The main point of this deck is to lock down everything your opponent can do, while using Shunoros' protection effect to create an army of undefeatable-except-by-battle normal monsters. Here's how it works.

Okay. Orichalcos Shunoros is the main card of the deck, but it's not there to put pressure on your opponent itself. That is accomplished with the aid of a group of normal monsters. They are Vorse Raider, Mad Dog of Darkness, Gene-Warped Warwolf, and Alien Shocktrooper. Giant Orc also makes an appearance just in case I need to take out something bigger. Finally, there's the fabulous lockdown card The End of Anubis. It has an effect to stop Darius, DAD, Grandmaster, Lumina, Zombies, searchers; it can stop even more things than Necrovalley, and that's saying something. Oh, and its relatively high ATK for its level allows it to beat down on Jinzo, Monarchs, and most level 6 monsters.

For spells, there's the amazing draw spell Allure of Darkness, and my personal favorite, Magical Mallet. Then there's Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy whatever I need it to. Also, I've got a copy of my own little piece of tech, Double Snare. It can destroy Prime Material Dragon (let's face it - Prime Material Dragon has the ability to negate traps), Royal Decree, Stardust Dragon (this won't really work, because Stardust will tribute itself, but it can get the Dragon out of the way long enough perhaps to summon The End of Anubis, which will prevent the revival of the Dragon), and importantly Jinzo. I've got Smashing Ground as a way to take out something my opponent controls, and Shrink to take things down by battle. Finally, there's Magic Planter, which can de-clog my spell and trap zones to put more stuff in my hand.

You've probably realized by now that the traps are an important part of the deck. They are. I've got Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror, Grave of the Super Ancient Organism, and Royal Oppression to stop my opponent. And no, they won't hurt me, even though Shunoros is a level 10, DARK special-summon only monster. None of its effects can be said to activate, except the special summon effect which occurs in the hand. I'm not trying to attack with Shunoros - I'm leaving that to my normal monsters. And Shunoros summons itself during the damage step, so Royal Oppression doesn't affect it. (PS: Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror has the useful effect of keeping my Giant Orc in attack mode!) As for the other traps, there's Imperial Custom to protect my other traps. Dark Illusion prevents my opponent from destroying Shunoros with an effect (or targeting some of my other monsters, for that matter). Forced Back is easy Monarch tech that works in a variety of other situations.

And that's it - the Shunoros Anti-Meta deck! Tell me what you think of this concept deck, and tell me how you think it stacks up to his concept deck. DO NOT POST ANYTHING UNTIL HIS DECK IS UP HERE TOO! I want a fair competition.Runer5h 02:09, 11 June 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

Guardians Judgment

This deck is centered around Eatos' ability to remove monsters in the opponent's graveyard from play. Though, removal is not the only focus of the deck, and is not the most prominent. Eatos can gain 1500 ATK if the effect is maximized, taking it to 4000. However, in order to utilize the effect, there must be both Equip Spells equipped to it, and monsters in the opponent's grave.

To suit the conditions, mill cards like Robbin' Zombie and Needle Worm, can help get the monsters there quicker. Others like Appropriate + Chainsaw Insect, add draw power. Plenty of Equip Spells are needed to fuel Eatos, and can help boost ATK even further. Others like Athena and Splendid Venus help Eatos in other ways, some equips can stop defensive attempts. One combo is to recycle Malevolent Nuzzler while Soul Absorption is face-up, to accomplish two things. Beatdown is the main strategy, so cards to stop Eatos destruction like Heavy Storm and Trap Stun help. Stopping other more powerful monsters from overpowering Eatos are important, and the best way to deal with it is Black Horn of Heaven and Solemn Judgment. Splendid Venus also weakens other monsters. But summoning Eatos is also key. Monster Reborn, Valhalla, and Athena can help. Have at it. Messengerofthedark 02:54, 11 June 2009 (UTC)Messengerofthedark

Okay, here's where you critique.

Here, you post your opinions on both decks. What could be better about mine or his? Most importantly, which do you think is the best? Runer5h 02:57, 11 June 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

Thanks, The Horror, for making the vote thing. Runer5h 19:11, 11 June 2009 (UTC)Runer5h PLEASE VOTE! REALLY! THIS IS GETTING TEDIOUS.

>_> I don't know if you want tips on how to improve your deck, but I'd use Luster Dragon instead of Alien Shocktrooper. Just for the extra defense points. The Horror'Speak if you dare 16:13, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Actually, I deliberately chose Shocktrooper because of its low DEF. If I set it, it'll likely get destroyed and I can summon Shunoros. Runer5h 19:24, 12 June 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

2 Days Left

  • That's right everyone, there are only two days left in the competition, and only the Horror has commented. Get your comments and votes in quick! Messengerofthedark 03:09, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Messengerofthedark
  • NOOOO!! I wanted it to be here forever, just joking lol. In all seriousness I love both of the Decks, but the one I have to say that I love most is Shunoros Deck by Runer just because I've been wondering how Normal Decks could get a modern boost and you answered the question. But, the most important thing is that you both had fun doing it xD. --Trivi-AM 16:02, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
Darn right. Of course, the page will still be up. Runer5h 18:16, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Runer5h
Hey guys, is it OK if I copy your decks and Immortalized your decks on my page simply because I want to show people who might not know how to use the Forum section of this site the amazing decks you've made. P.S. if you don't reply I'll assume the answer's yes. --Trivi-AM 18:45, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
One moment, I'll ask MotD. Runer5h 18:48, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Runer5h
Sure. You can do it. Runer5h 19:45, 18 June 2009 (UTC)Runer5h
