Fabled Guide

By BF2

The "Fabled" are a series of Fiend-Type LIGHT monsters that either allow you to discard cards or gain effects when they're discarded, even for a cost. "The Fabled" is a subgroup of Beast-Type LIGHT monsters with the same goals. The archetype has a reputation for both speed and inconsistency - a good player with a good hand can pull off a three or more Synchro Summons in a turn, whereas a good player with a bad hand might be able to do nothing but set a card defensively. "Reborn Tengu" allows you to get over this problem, giving you more Synchro Fodder. Most "Fabled" monsters are either large and demonic beings or small, imp-like beings. "The Fabled" are creatures being ridden by these imps.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Fabled monsters are Special Summoned: You will only need one Normal Summon, and that's "Reborn Tengu", "Tour Guide From the Underworld" (to send "Fabled Kushano" to your Graveyard, or "Sangan" (to search for almost any "Fabled" monster). You don't even need to Normal Summon to perform plays, although it helps.

Fabled monsters have a lot of draw power: "Fabled Ragin" lets you draw cards until you have two cards in your hand - you can then continue to combo if you get good draws.

Fabled monsters can benefit from costs: Unlike "Dark Worlds", who are notorious for being misused by players who don't understand the difference between costs and effects, "Fabled" monsters can be Special Summoned after being discarded by a cost, ranging from "The Tricky" to "Phoenix Wing Wind Blast".

Cons

Fabled monsters are LIGHT: A "Light-Imprisoning Mirror" completely shuts them down.

Fabled monsters require use of the Graveyard: A "Macro Cosmos" or "Dimensional Fissure" will completely shut them down.

Fabled decks are combo-reliant: One card alone is usually not enough to do very much.

Mechanics

A "Fabled" deck has a primary mechanic - discarding. Some discard themselves, some discard other monsters, and some gain effects when discarded. The best of these are those that Special Summon after discarding a "Fabled" monster or being discarded - these work well in conjunction with other effects for powerful combos and using certain cards without a loss of advantage.

The "Fabled" Synchro Monsters have very different focuses. The Fiend-Type monsters allow you to gain advantage while the Beast-Type ones use your hand size to gain a number of effects. One in particular, "The Fabled Unicore", is working best with cards that discard cards or let you draw cards.

In the Metagame

Last format, "Fabled" decks reached top tier status for a short period of time due to "Reborn Tengu". With it, they could do lower combos then before. This format, "Fabled" deck have lost two of their best resources - triple "T.G. Hyper Librarian" and "Formula Synchron". With both Limited, "Chawa" and "Lurrie" become less useful then they used to be. On the flipside, they have gained "Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning".

Currently, the deck is considered a rogue deck. It hasn't been seen much at recent tournaments, mainly because Plant Synchro is so much better, as are "Agents". With the deck, there are many builds that have yet to be pioneered by expert players a championships.

Within the format, T.G. Agents definitely have a lot of potential for the deck - it may be even easier than ever before to OTK with the deck.

Main Cards

Monsters

  • Fabled Ashenveil: "Fabled Ashenveil" is a Level 4 monster with 1600 ATK. During Damage Calculation, you can send a card from your hand to your Graveyard to give it 600 ATK during Damage Calculation. Since it doesn't discard, it won't trigger the "Fabled" effects, so it's not worth using.
  • Fabled Dianaira: "Fabled Dianaira" is a Level 8 monster with 2800 ATK. It changes the first Spell Card your opponent activates each turn to "your opponent discards one card". It also only requires on tribute if the monster is a "Fabled" monster. It would be good if it weren't a Tribute monster.
  • Fabled Dyf: "Fabled Dyf" is a Level 3 monster with 1400 ATK and 1700 DEF. You can tribute him to Special Summon one "Fabled" monster sent from your hand to your Graveyard. Good "Fabled" can do that themselves, making it unnecessary.
  • Fabled Gallabas: "Fabled Gallabas" is a Level 4 monster with 1500 ATK and 800 DEF. You can discard a card to destroy a face-up monster on the field with less DEF than his ATK. It's a good effect, but "Snipe Hunter" is better.
  • Fabled Grimro: "Fabled Grimro" is a Level 4 monster with 1700 ATK. You can discard it while you control a "Fabled" monster to add any other "Fabled" monster from your Deck to your hand. Every "Fabled" deck should use three.
  • Fabled Krus: "Fabled Krus" is a Level 2 monster with 1000 ATK. When it's discarded, you can Special Summon any other Level 4 or lower "Fabled" monster in your Graveyard. It's worth using at least two of.
  • Fabled Kushano: "Fabled Kushano" is a Level 3 monster with 1100 ATK. You can discard a "Fabled" monster to Special Summon it from your Graveyard. It's good in some "Fabled" decks, particularly ones with "Tour Guide From the Underworld".
  • Fabled Lurrie: "Fabled Lurrie" is a Level 1 monster that Special Summons itself when discarded. It's particularly useful for making "Formula Synchron" but due to the Limitation of "Formula Synchron", most decks only use one or two.
  • Fabled Miztoji: "Fabled Miztoji" is a Level 2 Tuner monster. You can send it from your hand to your Graveyard to make any "Fabled" monster you control a Tuner monster. It's not worth using.
  • Fabled Oltro: "Fabled Oltro" is a Level 2 Tuner monster. It lets you send one card from your hand to your Graveyard once per turn to Special Summon any Level 3 "Fabled" monster from your Graveyard. It won't trigger a "Fabled" effect, and consequently isn't worth using.
  • Fabled Raven: "Fabled Raven" is a Level 2 Tuner monster with 1300 ATK. Once per turn, you can discard any number of cards and give it 400 ATK and one Level per monster discarded until the End Phase of the turn. It's used to trigger "Dark World" effects. It's useful for "Fabled" decks, although "Snipe Hunter" is more popular.
  • Fabled Soulkius: "Fabled Soulkius" is a Level 6 monster with 2200 ATK. You can send two cards from your hand to your Graveyard, except "Fabled Soulkius", to Special Summon it from your Graveyard. This won't trigger "Fabled" effects and is not worth using.
  • Fabled Topi: "Fabled Topi" is a Level 1 monster. While your opponent has two or more cards in your hand than you do, you can reveal a "Fabled" monster in your hand and tribute "Topi" to destroy two Spell or Trap Cards your opponent controls. It has to be Normal Summoned, and is not worth using.
  • Fabled Urustos: "Fabled Urustos" is a Level 4 monster with 1500 ATK that gives all "Fabled" monsters 400 ATK while you have two or less cards in your hand. Giving "Fabled" monsters ATK doesn't really help the deck much.
  • The Fabled Catsith: "The Fabled Catsith" is a Level 1 Tuner monster that destroys a face-up card when discarded. The effect is automatic, so you should be careful not to discard it when it will have to target your own card. Some "Fabled" decks use it as a tech, while others don't.
  • The Fabled Cerburrel: "The Fabled Cerburrel" is a Level 2 Tuner monster with 1000 ATK. When it's discarded it is Special Summoned. Every "Fabled" deck should use three.
  • The Fabled Chawa: "The Fabled Chawa" is a Level 1 Tuner monster. You can discard a "Fabled" monster to Special Summon it from your hand. This combos with "Fabled Lurrie" to make "Formula Synchron". Nowadays, most decks use one or two.
  • The Fabled Ganashia: "The Fabled Ganashia" is a Level 3 monster with 1600 ATK. When it's discarded, you can Special Summon it and it gains 300 ATK. It's then Banished after leaving the field. You can combo that with "Leviair the Sea Dragon" to gain more advantage.
  • The Fabled Kokkator: "The Fabled Kokkator" is a Level 4 monster with 1700 ATK. When it destroys your opponent's monster by battle, you can discard a "Fabled" monster to draw a card. While the effect isn't bad, it's a bit slow for the deck.
  • The Fabled Nozoochee: "The Fabled Nozoochee" is a Level 2 monster with 1200 ATK. You can discard a "Fabled" monster to Special Summon it from your hand, then you can Special Summon one Level 2 or lower "Fabled" monster from your hand. It's a good card, and you should use at least two in a "Fabled" deck.
  • The Fabled Peggulsus: "The Fabled Peggulsus" is a Level 1 Tuner monster with 1600 DEF. When it's discarded, you can Special Summon it in face-down Defense Position. When it's flipped face-up, you can reveal a "Fabled" monster in your hand to send a "Fabled" monster from your Deck to your Graveyard. The problem with its first effect is that it misses the timing, and it Special Summons itself face-down.
  • The Fabled Rubyruda: "The Fabled Rubyruda" is a Level 4 monster with 1100 ATK. Whenever it's selected as an ATK target, you can discard a "Fabled" monster to negate the attack. It's okay, but not as good as "Snipe Hunter".

Synchro Monsters:

  • Fabled Leviathan: "Fabled Leviathan" is a Level 10 Synchro Monster with 3000 ATK. You can use "Fabled" non-Tuners, making it rather accessibly for a good "Fabled" deck. When it's destroyed, you can add up to three "Fabled" monsters from your Graveyard to your hand. Every "Fabled" deck should have one.
  • Fabled Ragin: "Fabled Ragin" is a Level 5 Synchro Monster with 2300 ATK. When it's Synchro Summoned, you can draw cards until you have two cards in your hand.
  • Fabled Valkyrus: "Fabled Valkyrus" is a Level 8 Synchro Monster with 2900 ATK. Once per turn, you can discard a Fiend-Type monster to draw a card. It's a good card, and if you can Synchro Summon it easily, you should use at least one.
  • The Fabled Kudabbi: "The Fabled Kudabbi" is a Level 4 Synchro Monster with 2200 ATK. While you have no cards in your hand, it can't be destroyed, and while you have three or more cards in your hand during your End Phase, it is destroyed. If accessible, using one in a "Fabled" deck isn't a bad idea.
  • The Fabled Unicore: "The Fabled Unicore" is a Level 4 Synchro Monster with 2300 ATK. While you have the same number of cards in your hand as your opponent, you can negate any effect they activate, including Counter Trap Cards. It's the main card in a number of "Fabled" control decks.

Other Cards

Monsters

  • Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning: If you use DARK monsters, you should use this card.
  • Beast of the Pharaoh: "Beast of the Pharaoh" is a Level 3 monster. When it is used in a Synchro Summon, you can Special Summon one Level 4 or lower Zombie-Type monster from your Graveyard, including "Beast". It's an alternative to "Reborn Tengu" in this deck type.
  • Dandylion: "Dandylion" is a Level 3 monster that Special Summons two Level 1 Tokens when discarded. It combos with "Fabled" monster's effects, such as that of "Fabled Nozoochee".
  • Glow-Up Bulb: "Glow-Up Bulb" is a Level 1 Tuner monster that can Special Summon itself from your Graveyard by sending the top card of your Deck to your Graveyard. It's really useful, although perhaps not as much with only one Formula Synchron.
  • Reborn Tengu: "Reborn Tengu" is a Level 4 monster with 1700 ATK. When it's removed from the field, you can Special Summon another from your Deck. It's really useful for generating lots of fodder for Synchro Summons.
  • Sangan: "Sangan" is a Level 3 monster with 1000 ATK. When it's sent from the field to the Graveyard, you can add any monster with 1500 or less ATK from your Deck to your hand.
  • Snipe Hunter: "Snipe Hunter" is a Level 4 monster with 1500 ATK. You can discard a card to select a card on the field. Then, you roll a die, and if you don't roll a 1 or a 6 the card is destroyed. Some "Fabled" decks use this to get rid of cards on the field.
  • T.G. Rush Rhino: Can be used in T.G. Fableds with "Horn of the Phantom Beast".
  • T.G. Striker: "T.G. Striker" is a Level 2 Tuner monster that can Special Summon itself from your hand if you control no monsters and your opponent controls a monster. If destroyed, you can search your deck for a "T.G." monster during the End Phase. It's useful as a free Tuner early in the game.
  • T.G. Warwolf: "T.G. Warwolf" can is a Level 3 monster with 1200 ATK. It's DARK, serving as fodder for "BLS". In addition to that, it gives a search if destroyed, and you can Special Summon it from your hand when a Level 4 or lower monster is Special Summoned.
  • The Tricky: "The Tricky" is a Level 5 monster with 2000 ATK. You can discard a card to Special Summon it from your hand, triggering the effect of a "Fabled" monster.
  • Tour Guide From the Underworld: "Tour Guide From the Underworld" has two uses - you can get a "Sangan" onto the field, or you can Xyz Summon "Leviair the Sea Dragon". Then, you can detach a "Fabled Kushano" to Special Summon a Banished Level 4 or lower monster, such as "Fabled Ganashia", setting up your Graveyard and gaining field advantage.

Synchro Monsters:

  • Ancient Sacred Wyvern: "Ancient Sacred Wyvern" is a Level 7 Synchro Monster that requires a LIGHT Tuner monster. It gains ATK equal to the difference between your Life Points, but loses ATK instead if your Life Points are lower than your opponent's. In addition to that, you can pay 1000 Life Points to Special Summon it from your Graveyard if it's destroyed by battle. In a "Fabled" OTK deck, it is very important.
  • Arcanite Magician: "Arcanite Magician" is a Level 7 Synchro Monster. It requires Spellcaster-Type non-Tuner monsters, such as "The Tricky". In addition to that, when it's Synchro Summoned, it gets two Spell Counters, gaining 1000 ATK per Spell Counter on it. Lastly, by removing a Spell Counter, you can destroy a card on the field. It's good in Tricky-Fabled decks.
  • Formula Synchron: "Formula Synchron" is a Level 2 Synchro Tuner monster that you can use to Synchro Summon during your opponent's Main Phase. In addition to that, you get to draw a card when it's Synchro Summoned.
  • Shooting Quasar Dragon: "Shooting Quasar Dragon" is a Level 12 Synchro Monster that requires a Tuner Synchro Monster and two or more non-Tuner Synchro Monsters. It has 4000 ATK and can attack once per non-Tuner monster used for the Synchro Summon. It can also negate one effect per turn, and if removed from the field, you can Special Summon "Shooting Star Dragon" from your Extra Deck. It's quite useful, although with "Formula Synchron" at one it's not as easy to summon as it used to be.
  • T.G. Hyper Librarian: "T.G. Hyper Librarian" is a Level 5 Synchro Monster with 2400 ATK. Whenever a monster is Synchro Summoned, you get to draw a card, leading to longer "Fabled" combos.

Xyz Monsters:

  • Leviair the Sea Dragon: "Leviair the Sea Dragon" is a Rank 3 Xyz Monster with 1800 ATK. You can detach a Xyz Material to Special Summon one Level 4 or lower Banished monster, such as "The Fabled Ganashia".

Spells

  • Lightning Vortex: By discarding a card, you can destroy every face-up monster your opponent controls. It's triggers "Fabled" effects.
  • Pot of Avarice: By returning 5 monsters from your Graveyard to your Deck, "Pot of Avarice" lets you draw two cards. This is best for returning Synchro Monsters but the +1 is extremely useful for "Fableds" even if they are just returning non-Synchro/Xyz/Fusion Monsters.

Traps

  • Beckoning Light: "Beckoning Light" discards every card in your hand then lets you add a number of LIGHT monsters from your Graveyard to your hand equal to the number of cards in your hand. It's good for slower "Fabled" decks.
  • Horn of the Phantom Beast: Equips to "The Fabled" monsters and "T.G. Warwolf" and "Rush Rhino".
  • Legacy of Yata-Garasu: Used in Fabled-Control decks.
  • Phoenix Wing Wind Blast: By discarding a card, "Phoenix Wing Wind Blast" returns a card your opponent controls to the top of their deck.

Variants

Standard Fableds

Fabled OTK

Fabled OTK decks focus on getting out "Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier" then Synchro Summoning as much as possible after clearing their opponent's field.

Tricky Fableds

Tricky Fabled decks use "The Tricky" and "The Fabled Cerburrel" to make "Arcanite Magician" and gain advantage.

T.G. Fabled

By adding "T.G." monsters to a "Fabled" deck, you an add some consistency as well as faster summoning. On a good hand, it isn't all that hard to OTK. For example, with "Tour Guide", "BLS", "Cerburrel", and "T.G. Warwolf", you can use "Tour Guide" to Special Summon "Kushano" from your Deck, allowing you to Special Summon "Warwolf", then Xyz Summon "Leviathan Dragon". Detach "Kushano", then discard "Cerburel" to Special Summon it from your Graveyard. Tune "Kushano" and "Warwolf" for Brionac. Use "Brionac" to return cards your opponent controls to their hand, then Special Summon "BLS". You should have enough total ATK power to OTK.

Unicore Control

This deck uses "The Fabled Unicore" to essentially lock down your opponent, stopping everything your opponent can pull out.
