During a duel yesterday, I my opponent had 7,500 damage, but he had managed to destroy my Tyrant Dragon, and he was able to special summon Despair from the Dark. I didn't have anything powerful enough to destroy Despair from the Dark in my hand, so I used Mind Control to make Despair from the Dark attack him directly. He then used Draining Shield to absorb the attack, and heal himself instead of taking damage.
I argued that this couldn't be done. Since Draining Shield says "Negate the attack of 1 of your opponent's monsters", this card doesn't apply because I attacked him with one of his own monsters, not one of mine. He was unconvinced. Who was right? 66.219.187.39 12:53, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
- Go read all the card effect of Draining Shield... -- Rein Weiss Ritter 12:56, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
We did, and were not able to come to a conclusion that we both agreed on. Again, I argue that it was his monster that I was attacking him with, not one of mine, so I don't think the trap applies.
- "Draing Shield" says "A Monster controlled by your opponent" so it may have been his monster but you controlled it so Draining Shield works. But your move was illegal because Mind Control says that that monster cannont declare an attack or be tributed so you couldn't have attacked. Burningfoot 13:46, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
My draining shield says "One of your opponent's monsters", not "A monster your opponent controls". Also, my Mind Control just says I pay 800 life points and take control of it until the end phase.
- See Card Rulings:Draining Shield, the first two are official rulings, and according to them, you are wrong. --Dragon Slayer (Contribs) 15:30, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
- The description for Mind Control is more consistant with "Brain Control".--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 16:33, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
When a card's text says says opponent's monster it usually means a monster controlled by your opponent. So "Draining Shield" can be used on monsters have belonging to 1 player that another player has taken control of. Your friend was right. Also you can't attack with a monster you took control of using "Mind Control"... Did you mean "Brain Control"? -- Deltaneos 16:43, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Mind Control forbids the owner of the card to attack or tribute the card that they are temporarily in control of for one turn. You must have mixed up with the card, Brain Control, that allows you to take control of the card for one turn of the price of sacrificing 800 LP's. And I'm terribly sorry to say this, but your incorrect. Draining Shield effect negates and restores the owner of the card with the monster ATK Points you have use to destroy another monster that he/she controls or directly to him/her.
