Forum:Earth Skill Drain Deck

I got back in to Yugioh about a month ago, I used to play when it first started, but the metagame is much more interesting now than it ever was before. Anyways, I've been working with this for a few days now. I've had great results with it so far, with only a few noteworthy matchups that have been generally unfavorable (Dark World, Lightsworn, Karakuri Geargia, Harpies).

I'd say right now the primary problem I have is maintaining my backfield. In cases where opponents don't have much to pop my cards, I tend to dominate if even just skill drain is active. The other ones have saved me in many circumstances where I wouldn't otherwise be able to over come certain aspects of enemies (Burden against Beelze, Gaia Power vs. Rank 4 XYZs and dealing with field card decks). Unless I've been playing against many noobs (which is totally possible), people tend to pop Supply Unit last of all cards so I usually have good draw power when needed. Final Attack Orders has helped immensely as a backup Skill Drain that I often use to trick opponents into killing their own monsters and taking damage while also dealing with pesky Marshmallons. And Forbidden Chalice is of course a great utility for increasing my own damage or negating foe effects (usually they can't get over 2300 beatsticks with the boost during battle phase anyways).

I didn't want to type out my side deck, but it's mostly counter traps and special summon drains. I don't use it much anyways since I do single duels most of the time. But other than that, I'm looking to see if there's anything else that can be done to spruce it up a bit. Atma weapon oni (talkcontribs) 02:33, April 9, 2014 (UTC)

One of the big things that you might want to consider is dropping Gaia Power for The Seal of Orichalcos. The Seal is actually very hard to destroy once it's allowed to resolve, and once it's resolved, most people don't like wasting the resources to kill it. By using the Seal, you make it pretty easy to keep Malefics around, and Malefic Cyber Dragon and Malefic Stardust are both really good and have high attack. But I understand if you want to keep the EARTH thing going.
Imperial Custom might be useful, or you can run 2 Dark Bribe. The general consensus so far on Supply Unit has been that while its useful, it really doesn't give you a +1 as your monster was still destroyed in the process. Also, effects have become a bigger part of the game the last few years, and being locked out of using monster effects is usually more painful than giving your opponent a draw off of Unit, so MST and stuff like it tends to go to the backrow that's set to ward off Skill Drain and such. I think 2 Dark Bribe is a must, sure the other guy gets a draw, but it means nothing if your opponent can't turn that into a win. You should also run 3 Pot of Duality, if Skill Drain lets you win, then having 3 Pot will let you see it more, and you don't really need 3 each of Toon Goblin Attack Force, Goblin Attack Force, Elite Goblin Attack Force, and Lei Lei. I would drop a few for 2 more Pots and 1 more Space Typhoon.

The Earth Theme came more from looking at the list of strongest level 4 monsters vs their drawbacks. It was an appreciated coincidence that there are three flavors of Goblin Attack Force as well as Lei Lei working with the same defense restriction, Barbaros being the icing on the cake. My main question about Orichalcos is that can each COPY be activated once per duel, or just once per duel, period? I ask because some cards mention "____ can only be used once per turn" but when I see multiple copies of them on field on YGOPRO, each can activate their effect. Depending on which it is, I would either run two Ori or one Ori one Gaia. I don't use too much xyz but having the option is nice.
I'm a little hesitant about Imperial Custom, only because my back row is generally heavy between Burden, Skill Drain, Final Attack, and Supply unit. I might run one just to see if it helps much. Regarding Supply Unit, I consider it more a reassurance card than necessary draw power. The only times I really need cards is when my monsters are dying every turn and it's saved me from those situations a number of times. This is why I run about half monsters half spell/traps, because I have to be sure I start with monsters since I don't have any special summoning outside of one monster. I might reduce that by one and one less Toon Goblin to add 1 MST and 1 Duality. The one downside I see to duality is I'd rather not let them know when I get the drain, only because then my opponent changes strats to prepare back row poppers. You can only activate one Ori per duel, period. So yeah, run 1 Ori and 1 Gaia. I can totally understand not wanting your opponent to know what you're playing, but I think at least 2 Pot of Duality are necessary, and the MST threat is another reason to consider running 2 Dark Bribe. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 23:59, April 10, 2014 (UTC)
