Hey, I was wondering if Fake Trap can work against Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins's 3rd effect. "● 3+: You can send 1 "Crystal Beast" monster you control to the Graveyard to negate the activation of a Spell or Trap Card and destroy it."

Scenario:

Player A: Activates Skill Drain.

Player B: Have 5 crystal beasts in the spell/trap zone. Chains Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins's 3rd effect to negate and destroy Skill Drain.

Player A: Can chain Fake Trap to take place of Skill Drain? Question asked because Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins's 3rd effect can both negate and destroy a spell/trap card.

Player B: If Player A can chain, can Player B chain 3rd effect again to negate and destroy Skill Drain since the other effect is destroying Fake Trap?

Yes.

Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins Rulings page :

" * This card's effect "You can send 1 "Crystal Beast" monster you control to the Graveyard to negate the activation of a Spell or Trap Card and destroy it." is activated in a Chain to a Spell or Trap Card. It is treated as Spell Speed 2, so you cannot Chain this effect to a Counter Trap Card. You can activate it multiple times in the same Chain. Sending a "Crystal Beast" monster you control to the Graveyard is a cost to activate this effect.[1] "

Note that for OCG this doesn't apply. Albatrossgr 22:29, October 28, 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I know that much.

Yes I know that much. Need to make sure for this one. Fake Trap only takes over the destruction of a trap card. Would Skill Drain be negated but only Fake Trap gets destroyed? Like I said, the field card BOTH negate and destroy a trap card.

There's some debate, but you should be able to activate "Fake Trap" since "Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins" has an effect which destroys the card. However, "Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins" will still negate the activation of "Skill Drain", so "Skill Drain" will be sent to the Graveyard by game mechanics (similar to "Light and Darkness Dragon"). --Deus Ex Machina (Talk) 04:08, October 29, 2009 (UTC)
