If I destroy Geartown with a MST or other means, can Ancient Gear Golem be summoned?

No...read Ancient Gear Golem..."This card cannot be special summoned." Picasso 81189 00:34, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

that's a problem I ran into with my Ancient Gear deck. I added in one copy of Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon into my deck, with Geartown specifically in mind. I think Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon is the highest ATK card that you can special summon with the effect of Geartown. to me, it's only necessary to add in one copy because it can be special summoned from the hand, deck, or graveyard.

Can you tribute summon Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon by tributing all 3 gadgets so it gains all of it's effects? Picasso 81189 18:33, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

nope. you must choose two. Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon is an eight-star monster. that means it requires exactly two tributes, unless its effect demands otherwise. because Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon makes no mention of tributing three monsters, you cannot.

So then why can you tribute three monsters for cards like Red Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon and Moisture Creature? Picasso 81189 18:45, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon cannot be tribute-summoned with three tributes. Moisture Creature's card text makes specific mention of tributing three monsters to satisfy an effect. Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon does not.

And Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon is because it's effect doesn't say you can tribute more than 2 monsters....right?

correct. Because he is an eight-star or higher monster, you have to tribute-summon him with two tributes. His card text allows you to special-summon him by removing-from-play one dragon on your side of the field, but that is a special-summon, not a tribute-summon.

Right....its just that when I started playing the game back in the day my friends always said that 5 or 6 needed 1 tribute....7 or 8 needed 2 tributes.....9 or 10 needed 3 tributes....11 or 12 needed 4 tributes.......and anything higher needed 5 tributes....so I have always just been playing it that way until recently when I re-read the rulebook...lol.

i never ran into the situation above a level 10 monster needing tributes though...so we have always played 3...until now anyway. Picasso 81189 18:55, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

it's understandable :) my brother and I used to have our own interpretation of the rules xD we used to think that you could normal-summon ritual monsters. but we've been playing for years, and we've gained a far greater understanding of the rules as time passes. I applaud your thirst for knowledge, and by questioning the rules with your fellow duelists, you are well on your way to greater understanding of the game. congratulations :D

  • and that is understandable: it's rare to find a monster in Yu-Gi-Oh above eight stars, and ever more rare to find one that can be tribute-summoned.
