Forum:God Cards + Millennium Items or Past Egyptian Connection

The Egyptian God cards supposedly cannot be controlled by duelists who don't have a Millennium Item, or at least a connection to the past, such as the scriptures that Seto Kaiba and the 3 Ishtar siblings know how to read. So even though the main reason that Joey Wheeler did not defeat Yami Marik at the last minute was of course to have Yami Yugi duel and defeat him instead and make the plot more dramatic, what would have happened if Joey had won with enough energy to make the final winning move and win Ra with the ante rule? It would have been nice to make Kaiba finally completely believe that he wasn't an amateur. Odion Ishtar, who had a connection, thought that trying to control the Winged Dragon of Ra would be too difficult and that he was not worthy enough, even before Marik revealed it was a counterfeit card. And unlike Kaiba, Ishizu, and Yugi's grandfather, Joey is not a reincarnation of any of the Pharaoh's helpers. So how would Joey have controlled Ra, without both a Millennium Item or any connection at all to the past of Egypt?Mistystar31 (talk • contribs) 06:31, November 29, 2014 (UTC)

I meant the Hieratic Text when I said scriptures. So yeah, how could Joey have controlled Ra without being able to read that? Mai tried and couldn't, so even if he had won Ra from winning that duel, it would have been worthless to him. Too bad; it would have been nice to have Kaiba finally see Joey as a "great" duelist by winning it, even though he couldn't actually use it. But I guess that was another good reason they had Joey eventually lose all his energy and the duel.
