Forum:Help Revising Monarch Deck - Sept 2011

Wouldn't you know it. I just pull together a Frognarch deck I really like, and they decide to ban Fishborg Blaster. Now I need advice as to how best to change this deck. Should I keep the Frog/Genex engine and use some card instead of Fishborg (and if so, what card? One that's about to come out?) Or should I change the engine enitrely to something else - and, if that's the case, what?

Here's my decklist

Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can give.--Kungfu-mama(talk) 15:16, August 16, 2011 (UTC)

Drop the Controller/Undine/Fishborg, for 3x Reborn Tengu, 1 Pot of Avarice & a Ho-o i think,
-Resk () 16:09, August 16, 2011 (UTC)

3 Reborn Tengu works. Glow-Up Bulb, Naturia Cherries, or Stygian Security for Formula Synchron maybe. Might be too situational but D.D. Sprite, free special summon by banishing an opponent's card if you manage to steal one? Djjomon (talkcontribs) 17:01, August 16, 2011 (UTC)

Maybe drop 1 Snowman, & 2 L&D for 2x Tragoedia & 1x Debris Dragon,
Another idea, is if you keep the Genex engine, get some Salvage Warrior (Trib treeborn, revive formula/controler)
-Resk () 17:05, August 16, 2011 (UTC)
I like the Salvage Warrior idea! I'm also considering Dragon Ice and Genex Ally Birdman, though not together. D.D. Sprite is also a possibility, but I might just have to let the Formula Synchron aspect of this deck go.--Kungfu-mama(talk) 22:57, August 16, 2011 (UTC)

Go Tengu/Birdman, probably the best bet, with Glow-Up or D.D. Sprite if you still want the Formula Synchron. (Why not? Draw 1, Synchro Summon with a Monarch for 8). Djjomon (talkcontribs) 04:26, August 17, 2011 (UTC)

Tengu/Birdman is probably best, though with no Fishborg Blaster to ditch the glow-up... Get a One for One so you can search Treebron & Glow-up :3

Love the synergy between Reborn Tengu and Genex Ally Birdman. But that sounds like 5 cards - what should I take out for them? I can see Fishborg (of course) - and maybe 1 Mobius the Frost Monarch, 1 Snowman Eater, and 1 Light and Darkness Dragon. Does that work? Of course, I also have to track down 3 Reborn Tengus at a decent price along with that. *sigh*--Kungfu-mama(talk) 13:59, August 17, 2011 (UTC)
Oh, and D.D. Sprite too! Darn, that's gonna take me to 43 cards, I think.--Kungfu-mama(talk) 14:02, August 17, 2011 (UTC)
... unless you're suggesting I totally ditch the Genex engine for Reborn/Tengu...
--Kungfu-mama(talk) 14:22, August 17, 2011 (UTC)

Personally, I would say drop the Genex engine. It's not spectucular if you can't have Fishborg. Summoned Skull 2: Electric Boogaloo 14:25, August 17, 2011 (UTC)

When I run Monarchs I personally dislike Swap Frog, I find it too situational. I also don't like Ronintoadin. There are 4 cards right there I'd take out. and if running D.D. Sprite, remember that if it leaves the field the effect to return the banished monster can't resolve (bad for your monsters, great for stolen monsters.) Djjomon (talkcontribs) 16:17, August 17, 2011 (UTC)

So Tengu's effect doesn't work if it's removed from the field by D.D. Sprite?
Tengu's effect will work. I meant Tengu, or whatever card, won't return to the field on the next Standby Phase if D.D. Sprite is not on the field at the time. Djjomon (talkcontribs) 20:24, August 17, 2011 (UTC)

I use the deck too, but im using glow up spore plaguespreader and krebons for tuners right now. glow up and spore are used with one for one and are revivable along with plague. I use krebons because he can protect himself and makes all those 8 stars

Well, after all the great information, I came up with the following changes. Suggestions, anyone?--Kungfu-mama(talk) 01:54, August 19, 2011 (UTC)

I'd recommend D.D. Sprite over Spore unless you want another Plant to be able to activate Spore's Special Summoning effect. Otherwise, I like it. Djjomon (talkcontribs) 04:25, August 19, 2011 (UTC)

Why Dupe Frog? I'd drop it and add in Ronintoadin. I think a Glow-Up Bulb is pretty necessary, so I'd highly suggest adding it. Take out Mirror Force, add Treacherous Trap Hole as it can be activated at any time. Perhaps Heavy Storm would be useful, although I'm not sure. I think the Genex Undine engine is still pretty valid and worth using too although it's up to you.BobaFett2 (talk)

Hmmm - Ronintoadin is still there as the first monster, unless you're suggesting two. And I HATED dropping the Genex engine. *rolls up sleeves* Let's see if I can't do better.
Well that's my first pass. Not sure about Common Charity, but it seemed like fun. Think I should work in a D.D.R. - Different Dimension Reincarnation because of the D.D. Sprite and Common Charity ?--Kungfu-mama(talk) 19:11, August 19, 2011 (UTC)

I like Common Charity. Not sure if you need D.D.R., worth Side Decking at least. I'd recommend not using Moray of Greed though. I had trouble pulling it off in an all WATER deck. Djjomon (talkcontribs) 05:05, August 20, 2011 (UTC)

D.D. Sprite doesn't Banish permanently, so using D.D.R. is unnecessary. You should side at least one in game 2 and side a Burial from the Different Dimension along with a Return from the Different Dimension as Chain Disappearance should destroy you. BobaFett2 (talk)

If D.D. Sprite isn't on the field at the next Standby Phase it's second effect to Special Summon the Monster can't resolve. I made that mistake in my Fairy deck. Djjomon (talkcontribs) 15:01, August 20, 2011 (UTC)

Oh.BobaFett2 (talk)

Which is why I'm thinking a D.D.R. might be necessary. I'm also a little uncomfortable with not having enough Frogs to cover Ronintoadin. So I think I'll bump Treeborn up to 3 to make sure that's cover, and still leave me with a cushion for graveyard use.--Kungfu-mama(talk) 15:27, August 21, 2011 (UTC)

So, after several days of consideration, I made some changes to my deck above. I decided to give Moray of Greed a go, due to the limiting of PoA. Decided to put in a Heavy Storm and D.D.R. - Different Dimension Reincarnation in place of the 2 MST's. Added one more Treeborn Frog and cut LaDD down to 1. Now I just need to test it. Kungfu-mama(talk) 19:18, August 23, 2011 (UTC)

I know it's the Treeborn engine and whatnot, but I'd really suggest either Torrential Tribute and Mirror Force, or Treacherous Trap Hole. Common Charity is cool and all, but face it: Common Charity is not cool in any way. 207.233.120.2 (talk) 20:57, August 23, 2011 (UTC)

Chainable stuff is better. Don't use Mirror Force and Torrential Tribute as you can get stuck with it.BobaFett2 (talk)

"You can get stuck with it." I hear that sometimes and I don't think so. Unless your opponent runs Jinzo, Fitzgerald or Gadjiltron, Mirror Force is going to be useful. Your opponent will generally be either attacking or dying, and Treeborn's not strictly necessary if they're topdecking. As for Torrential Tribute, just Set it after you get Solemn'd or something. If your opponent's already got a boss monster, don't Set it.
As for TTH, same thing. Don't Set it if your opponent's going to be sitting on Quasar and not Summoning. It will generally save your bacon, while Common Charity will not. Just my thoughts. Oh, and Trap Stun is OK against Chain Disappearance. 207.233.120.2 (talk) 00:53, August 24, 2011 (UTC)
You want to get out Monarchs are quickly as possible. That means that waiting for them to flip Ryko or use Duality, etc is not okay.BobaFett2 (talk)
Not sure what you mean about Duality. I s'pose the Traps aren't strictly necessary. 207.233.120.2 (talk) 01:08, August 24, 2011 (UTC)

So how's the deck working? I tried something similar with my Frognarch deck, and it goes no where. Djjomon (talkcontribs) 00:58, August 31, 2011 (UTC)

Well, I have to say, I hated the last build I posted here. Believe it or not Reborn Tengu seemed to hurt more than help, at least for me. I think I'd prefer taking that out, putting back a few cards like Battle Fader or Light and Darkness Dragon, and using Genex Ally Birdman to bounce my monarchs back into hand.

And then I started thinking. D.D. Sprite banishes from the field. Ronintoadin banishes from the graveyard. Some of the new Generation Force are fish types and they banish. And then, I ran across an article about Banifrog Monarchs.

So, I came up with a new build. I am going to post it under a new topic in order to generate new interest, but once I have it typed up, I'll come back and post a link to it here.
