If I have Axe of Despair equipped to Masked Chopper and Pole Position active. Chopper attacks a facedown monster, which turns out to be Level Eater. An illegal infinite loop triggers. Which card is destroyed to stop the loop? Thechosenone124 (talkcontribs) 09:30, December 23, 2014 (UTC)

....how the heck does that trigger an infinite loop? Sanokal K-T (talkcontribs) 09:50, December 23, 2014 (UTC)

Masked Chopper at 1100 attack has the highest attack on the field. As a result, it is affected by Pole Position, leaving it at 100 attack. When it attacks and flips Level Eater, with 600 attack, Eater has greater attack than Chopper's 100, so Pole Position shifts to Eater. Now with Axe of Despair Chopper is at 1100, highest attack on the field. Pole Position changes to Chopper, bringing it down to 100 again.Thechosenone124 (talkcontribs) 19:28, December 23, 2014 (UTC)

Infinite Loop 101. you are not allowed to knowingly start one. if you do so by accident like this, you rewind gameplay until before the loop occurs. if it is something unavoidable that causes the infinite loop, the offending card (pole position in this case) is destroyed.
You go with the second one in this scenario, rewind gamestate, do not attack level eater (further no monster can be played if it would trigger this again, since that would be knowingly triggering an infinite loop (which basically means no one is allowed to do something that would put a monster Whose ATK is between 100 and 1100 on the field without something stronger in play))
srsly this is almost a textbook example see Infinite Loop for more examples, pole position causes a lot of them.

The attack is not an accident. Flipping the face-down mons is unavoidable. So Pole Position will be destroyed, and the battle continue.-- (talkcontribs) 03:55, December 24, 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for your replies. So how would I know which card is responsible for the loop? In this case, Pole Position is clearly responsible because it has history in doing this kind of thing, but what if a loop doesn't such obviously loopy cards, such as the Jinzo Amplifier Skill Drain Royal Decree Loop, which can be accidentally triggered via Bait Doll? Also, how do I know when to rewind gamestate and when to destroy an offending card? Thechosenone124 (talkcontribs) 06:30, December 24, 2014 (UTC)

The last card causes the loop will be destroyed.
If it is obvious that the loop will happen before you do your action, you must not do it. If you mistakely do it, you must undo it.-- (talkcontribs) 06:42, December 24, 2014 (UTC)

So if the Masked Chopper player activated Ceasefire, Level Eater would be the last card that causes the loop (because it was a card essential to the loop that appeared last), so wouldn't it be destroyed instead of Pole Position? Or is Pole Position treated specially when any loop occurs involving it?Thechosenone124 (talkcontribs) 01:52, December 25, 2014 (UTC)

In that case he would not be allowed to activate Ceasefire, as that card would cause the loop to start. Jet-Black Nova (talkcontribs) 01:59, December 25, 2014 (UTC)
Level Eater doesn't have any eff that causes the loop.-- (talkcontribs) 02:42, December 25, 2014 (UTC)
P.S: And Ceasefire's activation is not illegal, as the player doesn't know what the face-down card is.-- (talkcontribs) 02:47, December 25, 2014 (UTC)

Thanks I understand now. So the first card effect involved in the loop is destroyed. Thechosenone124 (talkcontribs) 03:50, December 25, 2014 (UTC)
