Forum:New YGO Card Database

Not sure how many people have see this yet but it looks like an interesting tool: www.db.yugioh-card.com. The English version isn't working at the moment but the Japanese one is working. It shows a sample image on the card and has all the info including sets the card was in, release dates for those sets, rarity and general card info. I'm excited, finally Konami makes a database. ^_^ Look234 (talkcontribs) 06:58, July 23, 2012 (UTC)

Tried it out. It so amazing! Oh, how I love they organized and simplistic design each card article has. It even has a neat Forbidden and Limited List. The Q&A section is still in its infancy but it looks like an easy source for official rulings. Definitely, a step in the right way for Konami (OCG).  HHT   - (Talk to the Turtle) 07:20, July 23, 2012 (UTC)

I know its slick and clean. ^o^ And for anyone who hasn't checked it out yet here is what the sample images look like here. Look234 (talkcontribs) 07:52, July 23, 2012 (UTC)

I have a question, how can we use the card's Q&A or Faq on the wikia? I mean, it looks to have some good tips or rulings. Example: [1] --Laggia Will Lag You(Talk) 08:39, July 23, 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, just wanted to say that Yugioh-Card.com got an upgrade in its looks, and now the card database has been added to Gameplay. Bunch of other stuff too. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 01:30, August 4, 2012 (UTC)

I just came this database and the English version works just fine, we probably can make a link towards the site on the main page. Dries--87.195.153.244 (talk) 23:00, August 10, 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, no one bothered to update this. {{CardTable2}} has already been updated to allow links to the database to be added; to do so, simply copy the number in the URL after cid= from a database page about a specific card (it doesn't matter if it's the English or Japanese page; they both use the same number) and add it to the relevant card article here by adding the line |database_id = number, where number is the number you just copied from the database URL. You can find a list of cards that don't have their database ID added yet at Category:Card pages needing a Yugioh-Card database ID. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:50, August 11, 2012 (UTC)
I see. I can help with this. Just one question, where should/after which code line should |database_id = be added to in the {{CardTable2}}? Also, as for the category page, can we just remove a card that now has an id?---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 04:00, August 16, 2012 (UTC)
Seems like the bottom.
The categories for this is automatic, so just adding the database ID should remove it from the category.
-Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 04:07, August 16, 2012 (UTC)
Inzektor Dragonfly doesn't seem to have that code (Unless I missed it), and it doesn't appear in the category page. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 04:14, August 16, 2012 (UTC)
The usual cache issues. It takes a while for wikia's server to catch up after adding stuff through a template. Remember seeing someone mention null editing (edit, change nothing, save) pages to instantly update things so you don't need to wait? Same thing. So, it's on the list now (after null editing) -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 04:18, August 16, 2012 (UTC)
There isn't a faster way to do this right? I mean it's really slow manually entering in all the IDs. I'm guessing there isn't anything you guys can do, and all we need is more people? ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 01:03, August 17, 2012 (UTC)
Also, there are a few DM cards, and those won't have a database id. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 01:22, August 17, 2012 (UTC)
Bots should be able to, but having it get things from the database isn't something I (or anyone currently here) know how to do.
If there was already a list available that could be obtained, like the one mentioned at Forum:OCG Ruling Sources, then I should be able to bot them.
-Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 01:35, August 17, 2012 (UTC)
So, basically, we'd have to get all the ID numbers into a list here on the wiki? (Which brings the question of why not just edit the card page with the number instead of going through all the trouble to create a list of card ID numbers?) ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 02:43, August 17, 2012 (UTC)
I don't think it's worth doing if it's a manual list, but since that site already has a list of around 1000 cards, I can quickly convert it into bot commands.
Now that I managed to download a copy, I think I can start botting the ~1000, using the list I mentioned: Earthbound Spirit 5226 || Armored Starfish 4621 || Armored Lizard 4057... etc
Since each page has a different number, I need to tell that it needs to add another number, so a list is necessary.
Unless someone knows how to automate the process where you get the number from the database using the name, but as I said, we don't know how, so to bypass that step, a list is necessary. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 02:51, August 17, 2012 (UTC)
1040 cards completed. Which is ~20% of the total. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 07:43, August 17, 2012 (UTC)
I actually found a way to extract a list directly from their database, however it's only compatible with the English part, so ~5000 instead of ~5500. (as a bonus, there are exactly 4 TCG names which are different here compared to the database, I've redirected them)
I'll bot the rest soon. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 08:02, August 17, 2012 (UTC)
Another 4103 added; everything currently on the English part of that database has been added. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 02:13, August 18, 2012 (UTC)
Well, at least you got a ton of cards done. And also, the way you got the English numbers, shouldn't it be the same for the Jap. version of the database, or is there a difference between the databases that makes the method not work for both databases? ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 02:35, August 18, 2012 (UTC)
The exact same method is incompatible, but have an idea on how to make it compatible. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 02:44, August 18, 2012 (UTC)
A quick tweak makes it slightly compatible, however it heavily relies on this wikia's "jpname" being exactly the same as the name listed in the Japanese part of the database, differences in character type or spaces will affect it. (There are a also few other reasons, but that should be the main one)
Here's another 141 added. Total of 5284/5654 = 93.46%
Because of the above reasons, I don't think it's worth making it any more compatible, as the time it takes would probably be about the same as adding the rest manually.
Also, the "(DM)" cards and (I think) "Tokens" should not be added to Category:Card pages needing a Yugioh-Card database ID.
-Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 08:42, August 18, 2012 (UTC)
I can try to help finish out some of the rest manually (Some cards listed were also tournament promos, so their also not in the database), and we should remove the DM and token cards (I can do this later, when I do some of the rest manually). Also, I did a few OCG only cards, I found that that the JP Kanji and sometimes Kana name worked when searched in the database. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 13:04, August 18, 2012 (UTC)
Actually, I can't remove the DM cards, I kinda get confused when the card lists come from the content parameter. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 14:36, August 19, 2012 (UTC)
Actually, that part of the comment was supposed to be for Dinoguy. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 14:38, August 19, 2012 (UTC)
That makes way more sense. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 16:09, August 19, 2012 (UTC)
Just ignore the DM and Token cards for now; I'll figure out how to get them removed later (it shouldn't be that hard). Also, while I have full confidence in Falzar's bot runs, I saw one or two things in the linked list that looked a little weird (IIRC, there was one case where the same number was used for two cards, except the second card had "_2" or something like that at the end of the number), so it'd be nice to have some random spot checking from the first bot run. –Dinoguy1000 (talk contribs) as 208.124.66.152 (talk) 21:09, August 20, 2012 (UTC)
List of cards with "_2" in the linked list: Gaia The Fierce Knight, Celtic Guardian, Thousand Dragon, Tiger Axe, Launcher Spider, Dark Magician, Pendulum Machine, Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Flame Swordsman, Kuriboh. I'm pretty sure I filtered those out before the bot run, even though duplicates shouldn't affect the outcome.
-Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 02:02, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
Since Konami's database stores those "(DM)" cards in the same place as their Ritual Monster counterparts, shouldn't we give them the same database ID as their Ritual counterparts? Same with the two versions of the Egyptian Gods? -- Deltaneos (talk) 21:31, August 20, 2012 (UTC)
I added the last ID to Tinplate Goldfish, the other cards are either DM, Tokens, Asia Tourney Promos, or cards that haven't been entered into the database yet, as they have only been advertised in magazines. As for the DM cards, I guess we could add in the ID for the corresponding real TCG/OCG card. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 01:04, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, the Egyptian Gods entries only include the sets for their legal versions, not both. -- Deltaneos (talk) 17:03, August 26, 2012 (UTC)
I don't remember entering the id for the god cards, I think Falzer's bot did that. --99.58.117.132 (talk) 03:31, August 27, 2012 (UTC)
None of the "original" Egyptian Gods have a database_id added. Deltaneos was actually referring to his own suggestion in his post. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 03:38, August 27, 2012 (UTC)
