Forum:Public Knowledge questions

The Public knowledge page doesn't really give much info on what is considered public knowledge, so I have to ask here.

1. Is the ATK and DEF of a face up monster public knowledge?

2. Is the effect of a face up monster public knowledge? Continuous effect(s)? Ignition effect(s)?

3. Is the effect of a face up Continuous Spell/Trap card public knowledge? Continuous effect(s)? Ignition effect(s)?

4. Is the effect(s) of a face up Field Spell Card public knowledge? Continuous effect(s)? Ignition effect(s)?

5. Do I have to read the entire effect of a card before going through the steps of the effect?

If I wasn't clear enough, I can give examples from cards I use.

ex 1. My face up Alexandrite Dragon.

ex 2. My face up Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon has a constant ATK boost for every Dragon monster in my graveyard, and if he is targeted by a spell, trap, or monster effect, I can negate the effect.

ex 3. My face up Pyramid of Wonders increases the ATK of all face up Zombie-Type monsters I control by 200 for each monster my opponent controls, and if exactly 1 face-up Zombie monster I control would be destroyed, I can send this card to my graveyard instead.

ex. 4 My face up Geartown lets both players Tribute Summon "Ancient Gear" monsters with 1 less tribute, and when it is destroyed and sent to the graveyard, I can special summon 1 "Ancient Gear" monster from my hand, deck, or graveyard.

ex 5. When I activate Reasoning, do I have to read the entire card effect then have my opponent declare a level, or do I read the part where my opponent declares a level and then read the rest of the card? Nothinglord (talkcontribs) 23:42, March 8, 2012 (UTC)

If a card is face-up on the field, you can read them, so they're obviously public knowledge (ATK, DEF, effects included)
You can read the whole effects of cards, but in some tournaments they give turns time limits so you should remember every card, or may be penalised for stalling if you seem to do it deliberately for every card.

Wouldn't that make cards like Decoy Dragon somewhat useless? Your opponent could just read the effect and not attack it, ruining the whole point of the card. Nothinglord (talkcontribs) 23:42, March 8, 2012 (UTC)
Unsigned again. That's exactly why no top dragon deck in tournaments use that card. You can use things like Battle Mania, but in tournament play, it's too inconsistent against other decks.
