Ok...I hear people saying all the time that self milling is GOOD. Can someone please explain to me WHY? For example, Ryko lets you destroy 1 card, and in addition lets you mill 3 from your deck. Sure, I get the destory 1 card bit, but why is self milling considered a good thing? People say "it also allows" instead of "but you have to" mill 3. WHY??

I know that self mill can speed up the deck, for example if you play with Exodia, and it also allows you to use Pot of Avarice more quickly, which is certainly good. However you will definitely mill some spell/traps that you cannot retrieve so easily. While this may not be such a bad thing, its very possible that you may lose some key cards, like a Monster Reborn. That would be fail.

Of course, I am talking here about decks that side in some lightsworns, other than lightsworns themselves. IPlay4Fun (talkcontribs) 07:10, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

Somehow, revival from the Graveyard has become the "in" thing, since we're getting a lot of monster effects that revive from the Grave (like Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon or Gigaplant). The risk of running through important S/Ts is worth the reduction of Deck size and the probability of hitting something revivable. But, of course, sometimes people prefer to use Foolish Burial or Future Fusion if they want to be selective with their mill. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 09:41, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

As mentioned, it speeds up the deck but of course thi applies to decks that rely on the graveyard or need to thin the deck for some purpose. For example, milling a Mezuki is a good thing as well as Wulf in a LS deck and Vayu in a BW deck; as for the thining, you have Blasting the Ruins and such cards. So in short, it's good thing only if used with the right deck. Otakon7 (talkcontribs) 09:41, October 20, 2010 (UTC)Otakon7

Nobody really uses Blasting the Ruins since they finish the duel before the time when their Graveyard hits 30 or more. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 09:45, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
Speak for yourself. My grave gets huge real quick, i have a gemini dump deck. Alboono (talkcontribs) 10:10, October 20, 2010 (UTC)

Self-milling is the key purpose in a gemini deck, too. then you use all of the cards that revive normal monsters to bring them back. its great. in fact, the key gemini monster, gearfried, is so much easier to summon from the grave, then you use his effect to fish the others out. Gadjiltron, you ARE aware I used Blasting the Ruins just as an example? True, it may not be the best of an example but I couldn't think of any other card that can be used at the time. 213.147.109.69 (talk) 10:34, October 20, 2010 (UTC) Otakon7

I believe Dark Armed Dragon, Rainbow Dark Dragon and The Dark Creator would be better examples that count cards in the Grave. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 11:34, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
