"Monsters that would self-destruct by its effect, like Elemental Hero Captain Gold, do not self-destruct while Skill Drain is active; if Skill Drain is removed from the field, the monster will self-destruct."

"When "Archfiend Emperor, the First Lord of Horror" is Normal Summoned without Tribute, the effects that halve its ATK and DEF and destroy it during the End Phase are applied. Afterwards, if the effect of "Skill Drain" is applied, the ATK and DEF return to the original values written in the card, but "Archfiend Emperor, the First Lord of Horror" is destroyed during the End Phase normally."

Can someone please explain to me why these rulings contradict each other? By "afterwards" does that mean Emperor is summoned without skill drain on field, then skill drain is played, or does it include skill drain already active when Emperor is played? (I thought both.) I had the understanding that halving Emperor's ATK and DEF AND self-destruct were both parts of summoning conditions. Is the self destruct NOT? It's the same concept as Barbaros/Skill drain, with Barbaros returning to orig ATK. If they are both parts of summoning condition, then why is one part negated and not the other? its Self-destruct is a condition of summoning it like that, Conditions cannot be negated, as they are not effects to begin with. this is why Skill drain also does nothing to a monster like Majestic Dragon. Captian Gold and the like are continous effects, and will self destruct the instant its condition is no longer met, but since that is an effect it IS negated. To simplify, Emperors self destruct is a condition attached to its alternate summon method, not an effect in and of itself. so there is nothing to negateDreadKaiser (talkcontribs) 23:52, February 13, 2014 (UTC)

if you are not satisfied with this. then BKSS. It wouldn't be the first time rulings have contradicted themselvesDreadKaiser (talkcontribs) 23:54, February 13, 2014 (UTC)

So does that mean halving his ATK and DEF is NOT part of his summoning condition, and that's why that effect is negated by Skill Drain? It seems to me as if it is, bringing the original question: why is one part of summoning condition negated and not the other? Skill Drain, as posted, would not negate summon conditions. If the ATK/DEf reduction is not summon condition, then it's been answered. Jfritts19 (talkcontribs) 00:04, February 14, 2014 (UTC)jfritts19

More or less, it seems to say that the effect (of being destroyed) become Lingering. This means that the destruction effect would become "primed" or "active" as part of the Hand effect instead of as an effect of the monster on the field. So basically, you activate the destruction effect as an action during the Summoning, and it lingers until the End Phase. The ATK and DEF change is instead an effect of the face-up monster and is negated by "Skill Drain". Did that make sense? --LordGeovanni- (Talk To Me) *Kupo* 04:41, February 14, 2014 (UTC)

Thank you Giovanni, that made SO MUCH more sense. Jfritts19 (talkcontribs) 06:34, February 14, 2014 (UTC)jfritts19
