how many staples like destroys or negates monstr's atk do i need to put in a deck? tnxΓραφείο 02:58, January 15, 2010 (UTC)

It all depends on what you consider Staples, each person's thoughts on that matter vary. I for one, do not consider Negate Attack a staple, but some do. There is a limited and forbidden list, that changes every once in a while. It can be found on the home page of this Wikia. So that bears consideration, and depending on what you want your deck to do is what decides how many staples you should put in. I hope this helped.

Like the comment above me it does depend - say in a harpie deck it would not be very wise to have lots of spell and trap destruction staples as the harpies can already cover it. OjaOwnage 19:15, January 15, 2010 (UTC)

Like the comment above me said* OjaOwnage 19:16, January 15, 2010 (UTC)

Well, in terms of negating attacks, two very good Traps come to mind.

  • Threatening Roar. This is quite good against Gladiator Beasts, since it prevents them from fighting that turn. However, it won't force Lightsworn or Blackwing users to extend their Honest or Kalut.
  • Waboku. This is terrible against Gladiator Beasts, since the battle still occurs, letting them tag out. However, using this against Lightsworn or Blackwing may help more, since you may bait out their Honest or Kalut, causing them to waste it.--Akiza Izayoi 22:08, January 15, 2010 (UTC)
As well as Light-Imprisoning Mirror and Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror in Nature-Element Deck (the one without Light or Dark respective) that can counter Lightsworn or Blackwing, again respective. --FredCat100 22:12, January 15, 2010 (UTC)
Keep in mind that since "Waboku" cannot be activated during the Damage Step, it will only help bring out "Honest" or "Blackwing - Kalut the Moon Shadow" if you are being attacked by a weaker monster, or if you attack with a stronger monster. DemonGodAsura 22:34, January 15, 2010 (UTC)

Dark Star X - I would consider adding Mirror Force, as it is the most common staple for any Deck. Even though your can only have one in a Deck, everyone uses it; that is everyone but me, since I don't have one :(.

Actually, Mirror Force isn't as much of a staple as it used to be. Many of todays Meta cards can easily eliminate it without it being chained, since it requires an attack to trigger. Some examples are:

Not to skewer your suggestion, but all of these cards will easily get around Mirror Force. I don't consider it a staple, myself.--Akiza Izayoi 23:08, January 15, 2010 (UTC)

if your opponent relies on spell/trap that is continuous, heavy storm is a staple but if you yourself uses much , MST or dust tornado, a magic cylinder can change tides in battles also solemn judgment but if you are using themed decks, use of its support cards more and add some staples or side deck them. for example, if you use lvl 2 below monsters, graceful revival can be added in addition to call of the haunted or a card that specifically revives certain type of monsters i think monster reborn is a staple in any decks if it becomes limited again. dark bribe is also quite a good staple basically countering cards are essential to a deck, even just 1 solemn judgment can help save you but it really depends on rarity of cards (in my country, it is very expensive to have 1 solemn judgment) just find a good substitute, and on the deck you are using and your playstyle

  • I run my Mirror Force in every deck I own, because it took me since I started to play this game, with Yugi Moto's Starter Deck, to get one, and I just got it this year. But most of my buddies in my locals use it as a Sakuretsu Armor on one monster. So, I would have to agree.
