When does Appropriate activate? Like if my opponent draws a card because something said special summon from the deck, would I draw? Or if my opponent uses a card that says search deck for a specific card and put it your hand would I draw? What does the ruling mean by draw, is it when a card is taken out of the deck or is it when a card is drawn from the top of the deck?

  • It's effect activates when a card(s) is drawn from the top of the opponent's Deck. ATEMVEGETA (Talk) 07:54, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Nitpicking: "activate" implies that the effect starts a chain. The effect of "Appropriate" does not start a chain, so it does not activate - its effect is "applied".
"Draw" is a specific action, like "Destroy" or "Tribute". If a card effect does not include the word "draw" in its description, you are not drawing.
Special Summoning something from the Deck (like the effects of the "Gladiator Beast" monsters) is not drawing. Adding/putting a card in your hand (like "Sangan" or "Reinforcement of the Army") is not drawing.

Yea! That's correct and important about the "activate" and "apply". My bad wording!
Also special summon from the deck cards like Red-Eyes Black Metal Dragon, or picking cards like Magical Merchant is not drawing.

  • From my knowledge...Appropriate when face down activates when opponent Draws (meaning they are either forced to or use a draw card) outside of draw step. That first time you flip it face up after they draw, you do NOT draw. Also the drawing must be last in the chain, so if they played solar recharge you would not be able to activate appropriate because milling 2 is the last thing to happen in the chain. After appropriate is activated ANY TIME when your opponent draws outside their draw step, you draw two. For example Dark World dealings makes them draw, you should draw one, appropriate activates, draw two...then discard at least as I understand it. Because I have not found a particular ruling on that.--Takuma. 00:27, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
    • Minor: A face-up continuous effect applys, not activates............"Dark World dealings makes them draw, you should draw one, appropriate applys, draw two...then discard". ATEMVEGETA (Talk) 05:55, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
"Is applied", not "applies".
Also, like all Continuous Effects, "Appropriate" cannot interrupt the resolution of a Chain Link. For "Dark World Dealings", your draw from "Appropriate" after you discard.
