If I control a face-up Catoblepas and the Witch of Fate and my opponent summons DAD of Dark Creator can my opponent declare/use his priority to activate their effect?Qstation 01:58, January 28, 2010 (UTC)

Yes, since Witch only destroys that Special Summoned monster; and does not Negate the Summon. See below Falzar FZ 05:39, January 28, 2010 (UTC)

Actually, it cannot. "Catoblepas and the Witch of Fate" has a Trigger Effect, so it is similar to "King Tiger Wanghu" or "Future Visions". --Deus Ex Machina (Talk) 05:56, January 28, 2010 (UTC)
... I thought it was Quick Effect, which is why I don't use it. (I need to get some then). Falzar FZ 06:01, January 28, 2010 (UTC)

Actually, her effect is not like future visions and King tiger. Her effect is optional, while their effects are mandatory. Even if Catoblepas does destroy, the turn player would have priority to activate Dark Armed Dragon, or any other appropriate trigger effect. A choin would be formed with Dark Armed as Chain link 1, and Catoblepas as Link 2. While DAD would be destroyed, his effect would still resolve destroying whatever was targeted.

It doesn't matter if it's Optional or Compulsory, as long as it's a Trigger, it can take over Priority of Ignition Effects. Falzar FZ 11:31, February 13, 2010 (UTC)
If you look up SEGOC you will understand the difference. Also, by your logic I could bottomless trap hole Dark Armed and it would not have the chance to activate priority. Catoblepas and Bottomless (along with all other "response to summon" cards) activate during the same moment.
Bottomless is not a Trigger Effect. Falzar FZ 11:37, February 13, 2010 (UTC)
I am aware of that, but its a timing thing. The special summoned monster is successfully special summoned, and the turn play retains priority to activate the effect before any cards are chained at that point.
All Trigger Effects 'steal' priority.
Trigger Effects will automatically take up the first chain link, before either player can manually activate cards. Ignition Effects cannot be chained to this. Falzar FZ 11:45, February 13, 2010 (UTC)
