Illumilina, Oceania

Oceania Illumilina, known as Flash Umiko (フラッシュ Furasshu Umiko) in the Japanese version, is a character in the Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS anime and a minor antagonist. She resembles Celestia Noodlina, Terra Kneadalina, and Prioria Sweetalina; she replaces the latter as an announcer for the Goha Rush Duel Team Battle Royal after her departure back to the past. In the King of Duels arc, she is revealed to have been hired by Otes to help him realize his plan to destroy Dueling altogether.

Design[edit]

Appearance[edit]

Full-body view of Oceania.

Oceania closely resembles Celestia Noodlina, Terra Kneadalina, and Prioria Sweetalina; she is also a petite young girl with a very pale yellowish complexion, blond hair, and aqua eyes with blue pupils and yellow fish-shaped highlights.

In contrast to Celestia, Terra and Prioria, whose outfits all retained a central core they were capable of withdrawing into and grey gloves and stockings with ornaments attached suiting their profession, Oceania dresses very differently, with only superficial similarities. She wears a diver's outfit based on a footballfish; a blue suit with a white belly and yellow fins at her ears, hips and on the suit's tail, with a pink collar and visor rim and a lightbulb sign on her chest, a blue lamp attached her her head like that of a footballfish, long blue gloves with white-webbed hands and yellow fins at the wrists, and blue stockings with yellow fins covering her feet.[2] While working in the Sixth General Affairs Division of the General Affairs Department at the Goha Enterprises, Oceania wears a sand blue waist coat over a white collared shirt and a sand blue skirt, all over her fish costume.

Personality[edit]

While Oceania is working as a newscaster for Goha City, she is generally cheerful and chirpy just like Celestia, Terra and Prioria. She tends to make fish onomatopoeia and fish puns when she talks and is easily panicked or startled.

While she is working at the Goha Enterprises Main Office however, Oceania acts in completely the opposite manner; she is short-tempered, absent-minded and sloppy. She also briefly utters Terra's "magu" at one point. She makes constant misplays during her Rush Duel with Gavin Sogetsu and even was initially unable to activate her Duel Disk due to spilling sauce on it a day prior. Whereas Celestia and Prioria bonded with the Duelists they faced and Terra showed little animosity to Seatbastian, Oceania parts with Gavin, Rayne and Rino on poor terms. Oceania also discloses a desire for a dream to take over Goha Enterprises with her own business, though her inherent laziness hampers her.

When she is revealed alongside her other counterparts as being aligned with Otes, she retains her lazy personality, usually staying in either a half-asleep or apathetic state, in direct contrast to the more energetic demeanors set forth by the other girls.

Etymology[edit]

Her Japanese family name "Umiko" means "sea child" while her first name "Flash" is likely derived from the term "flash flood". Her English first name "Oceania" is derived from "ocean" but is also the name of a geographical region that is considered to be a continent by some countries. Her last name of "Illumilina" is a corruption of "illuminate" and also uses the "lina" suffix shared by all her counterparts in the English version.

Biography[edit]

Team Battle Royal[edit]

After Prioria Sweetalina returned to the past on the second day of the Goha Rush Duel Team Battle Royal, Oceania took over the duties of announcing the tournament.[3] At the end of the second day Oceania tallied up the total points of the top two teams; Team YNR and Team King Luke's Kings.[4]

Oceania served as announcer on the day of the finals, revealing the rewards of the tournament and explaining how the winner would be chosen. During the first Rush Duel between Romin and Roa Kassidy, their bandmates Tyler Getz and Toombs entered the arena to support Roa, and Oceania told them off and asked them to leave. Tyler and Toombs promptly intimidated Oceania as they claimed they were RoaRomin members, and a spooked Oceania allowed them to stay as she fled into the air on her hovering platform. Romin won the Duel, and an excited Oceania announced the next Duel would take place in the following episode.[5] The next Duel was Gavin Sogetsu vs. Nail Saionji, but the power went out during the Duel, much to Oceania's shock and she promised the crowd they would fix the problem. After the power resumed, Oceania apologized to her audience. She was shocked by Gavin's determination to take the direct attack from the 4000 ATK "Yggdrago the Sky Emperor" and by the eventual result of the Duel when Gavin was able to end it in a DRAW, leaving Yuga Ohdo and Luke to Duel in the final match.[6]

Oceania commentated during Yuga and Luke's Rush Duel and witnessed the hacking and revelation of the Goha Duel Server on the moon, as well as the erosion of the Rush Duel Program contained within by Goha Enterprises Drones.[7] She continued to announce as Yuga and Luke resumed their Rush Duel despite knowing it would confirm the uninstallation of Rush Dueling. Luke eventually won the Duel, and Rush Dueling was uninstalled, but Yuga was able to reinstall Rush Dueling in the Super Rush Robot with Nail's assistance, creating a stronger program that the Goha Enterprises Drones couldn't easily destroy. Afterwards, Luke was crowned King of Duels.[8]

Goha 6 Siblings[edit]

Oceania continued to serve as a newscaster for Goha City following the Goha Rush Duel Team Battle Royal, announcing that the story of the Super Rush Robot had grabbed global attention.[9]

Goha Employee[edit]

Oceania was eventually transferred to the General Affairs department of Goha Enterprises to oversee electrical appliances, a job she conducted with significantly less enthusiasm than her announcing duties, and she desired to take over Goha Enterprises herself with her own undersea online shopping business. At some point she found a "Fusion" and added it to her Deck. She met Gavin, Rayne and Rino while she was changing florescent bulbs, scowling when Gavin tried to congratulate her for her commentary work and dismissing his concerns she was changing the bulbs with old bulbs. Luke tasked Oceania with installing appliances for his new Luke Division, but Oceania carelessly connected them using octopus wiring, a technique she'd used across the Goha Enterprises Main Office, and crashed the power as a result. Gavin, Rayne and Rino confronted Oceania in her office over her laziness, and Oceania trying to brush them off (accidentally speaking with Terra Kneadalina's speech tic) led to Gavin challenging her to a Rush Duel to get her to change her ways. Before they began, Oceania had to get Gavin to clean her Duel Disk as she'd spilled food on it to the point of not working. Oceania began poorly, as she Summoned all the monsters in her hand and prevented herself from stopping Gavin's attack with "Shocking Rebone", something Rayne and Rino mocked her for. Oceania abruptly revealed her dream to them, then claimed she couldn't let them leave alive now they knew it and she Dueled better on her next turn, Fusion Summoning "Showering Seaferno" and almost defeating Gavin, while retaining a monster in her hand to Summon with her other "Shocking Rebone" to stop Gavin's attacks. However, Gavin Fusion Summoned "Yamiterasu the Divine Ruler" and used its effect to prevent Oceania from Special Summoning monsters in Attack Position, and Oceania forgot about the effect when she tried to stop his attack with "Shocking Rebone", a decision that cost her the Duel. Afterwards she went to a cliffside with Gavin, Rayne and Rino, admitting she needed to work harder to achieve her dream, but parting with them on bad terms after Rayne claimed the scales had fallen from her eyes and body. Oceania found the analogy disgusting and jumped into the ocean with a life preserver, swimming away angrily.[10]

King of Duels[edit]

Oceania was present with Celestia Noodlina, Terra Kneadalina, Prioria Sweetalina and Sagawa Konvoy at the Nanahoshi Insect Ninja Village when Yureiko Hire brought Yuga Goha to them. They strapped him to a cross and introduced themselves, Yureko telling Yuga where he was. Otes then arrived to send a video message to Yuga Ohdo while informing Yuga Goha of his plans to destroy Dueling; Oceania, Celestia and Prioria held lightning panels for the filming.[11]

Oceania and her counterparts joined Otes in the Otes Robot, waiting beyond the lunar horizon for Yuga Ohdo and his friends to arrive and attempt to stop the lunar Drones from overloading the Goha Duel Server. They acted to throw meteors at the kids' shuttle, Oceania doing so as lazily as ever, but after the second the shuttle vanished. To their shock, the kids had commandeered the Super Rush Robot so Yuga could Rush Duel Otes.[12]

Deck[edit]

Oceania plays a WATER Thunder Deck focused on "Umi" and effect damage. Her monsters are based on sea creatures and electrical fittings. She also includes "Fusion"; her Fusion Monster "Showering Seaferno" can bolster the efficiency of her "Shocking Rebone" Trap Card.
