Why Iron Chain Dragon? Why would you be planning to Mill? Clorth 22:24, November 6, 2009 (UTC)

just a question: on the Fusion monsters of this archetype, it says to remove from play monsters from your side of the field. if the Union monsters are still equipped, can they be used to summon the Fusions?--218.186.10.234 07:11, May 25, 2010 (UTC)

If it says that you need to remove from play monsters from your side of the field, then you can't remove from play Union monsters that are equipped because they are currently treated as spell cards, not monsters.--Hide Head Turtle 11:20, May 25, 2010 (UTC)

Support card[edit]

"Hyper Coat" is the support card which makes this archetype, if it says "Select 1 face-up Machine-Type monster you control with "V", "W", "X", "Y", and/or "Z" in its name and equip this card to it." Doesn't that make it support the "V" archetype, "W" archetype, "X" archetype, "Y" archetype, "Z" archetype individually? -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 03:06, May 20, 2012 (UTC)

Yes, but I chose to make an exception in this case. See this conversation. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 03:09, May 20, 2012 (UTC)
I checked the forum and there wasn't anything about it. I forgot about searching through talk pages.
Ah well, since I've already checked, might as well mention that, for the record, there is currently 62 "V", 16 "W", 51 "X", 10 "Y" and 10 "Z".
But if we only count Machine Types, then it's just adding Geargiganto X, Victory Viper XX03, Victory Viper XX03, Debugger X, Satellite Laser Balsam, Debugger Y and Debugger Z to rest of the VWXYZ. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 03:20, May 20, 2012 (UTC)
Ah, crap. My rationale for making the exception was that I was under the impression that the card have no valid target for its effect besides the VWXYZ monsters. If there are other valid targets, maybe we should reconsider. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 03:55, May 20, 2012 (UTC)
Reconsider to only count Machines, or all of them?
and if anyone's wondering why the "V" count is high, it's because of Vision HEROs and LVs. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 04:04, May 20, 2012 (UTC)
We don't discriminate for any other archetypes, do we? --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 04:26, May 20, 2012 (UTC)
To date, we have always ignored the limitations on the support cards and only cared about names. I mentioned it since it was also mentioned in the usertalk page listed above. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 06:29, May 20, 2012 (UTC)
No, all of them. I'm not considering just counting Machines. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 14:18, May 20, 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps it'd be worth it now to break out separate archetype pages for each letter? This page should really cover the core "VWXYZ" group of cards, and just unloading everything here would only end up diluting said coverage.
Falzar: you explained the "V" count, but what about the "X" count? "X-Sabers" account for some of them, but there aren't even 30 of them... ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 15:57, May 22, 2012 (UTC)
Logic and consistency suggest that we document these as five new archetypes. I like and logic and consistency... but I feel I should point out that what we'd actually be doing is creating another five pages and adding information to over a hundred pages just to explain something trivial that's a result of someone being lazy about how they phrased an anime only card lore that nobody is going to use. -- Deltaneos (talk) 21:34, May 22, 2012 (UTC)
I do agree with both those points, given that there are actually other valid targets. One downside of the way we've chosen to categorize archetypes is we occasionally get some very unintended connections like this or the absolute cluster**** that is "Knight" (or my new favorite - "Hero's Rule 2" is a "Rose" card). And I've flip-flopped on this before as well, but ulimately I do think the current system is the best we can do, given the circumstances.
You know, all this makes me want to write a (presumably horrible, since I can't write) fan fiction where everyone uses contrived archetypes as per categorized here. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 00:02, May 23, 2012 (UTC)
I accidentally counted names with "XX" twice. It should be 51.
"T.G." Trap Cards and "Arcana Force" covers a large portion of the rest. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 01:28, May 23, 2012 (UTC)
There should be more "Rose" (ローズ) cards if that's the case. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 01:39, May 23, 2012 (UTC)
For anyone from the future reading this, V (archetype) is a thing now. >_> ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:02, March 11, 2013 (UTC)
As I responded in it talk page - "V-Tiger Jet" don't get all supports from that V archetype, at all. --iFredCat 01:03, March 11, 2013 (UTC)

The portion describing this "archetype"'s reason for being an archetype ("The group has no actual support cards, but the Japanese lore of "Hyper Coat" specifies Machine-Type monsters with "V", "W", "X", "Y", and/or "Z" in their Japanese names. The members of this series are the card's only valid targets, so for all intents and purposes they are an archetype.") should be edited in some way. I know this topic was kinda covered in this talk page in the past, but the latter of the quoted sentences isn't (and given EOJ, and thus Victory Viper XX03, came out well before Episode 111's Japanese air date, never WAS) correct. I'd edit it myself, but I have no clue of what to change it to, or if it should just be removed. RiverShock (talkcontribs) 20:00, October 30, 2014 (UTC)

The New ABC Monster; related or members?[edit]

I noticed that in their card pages, the new ABC monsters and their fusions are listed as "related" to this series instead of being fulltime members. While, the way this page is written, they are listed as members.

Since in terms on gameplay, this is a series, not an archetype, and since their ultimate monster, A-to-Z Dragon Buster Cannon, is actually a fusion of the 2 main monsters of both the old and new line, wouldn't it be more accurate to consider them fulltime members of the series?

Or are we keeping them as related due to the complicated Hyper Coat case? Kentaru Z (talkcontribs) 18:37, May 20, 2016 (UTC)

I agree that they should be fulltime members of the series, mainly because of the "AtoZ". GuKeltke (talkcontribs) 20:37, May 20, 2016 (UTC)

Rename[edit]

"AtoZ." Any objections? Lightning Laxus (talkcontribs) 06:14, November 16, 2016 (UTC)

Shouldn't it be A-to-Z as in A-to-Z-Dragon Buster Cannon? Zeta1127 of the 89th Legion (talk) 06:36, November 16, 2016 (UTC)
Yes, that was my bad. Lightning Laxus (talkcontribs) 08:19, November 16, 2016 (UTC)
Wait. Don't be hasty, please. Personally, I'd like to put more thought into it. And now that a discussion has been started, give it time for people to notice it and comment. Becasita Pendulum (talkcontribs) 10:06, November 16, 2016 (UTC)
How about ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ?
No objections to "A-to-Z". Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 23:32, November 20, 2016 (UTC)
People tend to refer to this series as "XYZ" or, more recently, "ABC". Tipically, when someone would say "XYZ", the "V" and the "W" were somewhat included. With the "ABC", people tend to be talking more about those three only. What I've been thinking was until which point would make sense to split them (which I actually don't want to). So I guess "A-to-Z" is fine, even though I think I'm not used to hear people referring to them like this. Becasita Pendulum (talkcontribs) 23:39, November 20, 2016 (UTC)
That article at yugioh-card.com uses AtoZエートゥズィ, but "A-to-Z" works too. --Missign0 (talkcontribs) 03:37, November 21, 2016 (UTC)

A Large Edit Request[edit]

So I myself am a skilled A-to-Z player, and almost a third of the tips on this page are horrible, examples are using Power Tool Dragon, Premature Return etc. I want to remove most of these bad tips and add good ones, and since it would be an enormous page edit, I'm asking if I should make such a big change to a page. GlitchPichu (talkcontribs) 23:58, April 27, 2017 (UTC)

Just copy/paste the entire article into User:GlitchPichu/Sandbox, then start editing there. Once you're done, you can ask for opinions on it before publishing on the actual page. --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 04:04, April 28, 2017 (UTC)
