Metal Gear references[edit]

User:BGMaxie, it seems you're the user who originally added the possibility of Metal Gear references (with only the presence of an advertisement blurb that was very vague in terms of Metal Gear references) and are still advocating for its placement here. Right now, I can only see 2 reasonable Metal Gear references:

  1. Quik-Fix = Otacon, since he has the "otaku" spiral glasses on with lab coat. I also think one of the commentators referred to him as Otacon on the same livestream they first revealed the "SPYRAL" artworks on, though I wouldn't take it seriously if it wasn't Matt Bell that said it.
  2. Master Plan = The Boss, but this is a weak resemblance at best.

CQC is too generic of a reference, as it's a generic sort of combat that can be attributed to any "spy"-related media. In actuality, at least the first sentence of "SPYRAL MISSION - Assault" seems like more of a Mission: Impossible reference, with its time-dependent self-destruction. --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 05:45, October 10, 2016 (UTC)

Yes I was. Though I for one do not think I'm the only one who thinks that.
  1. Otacon is perhaps the most palpable one due to the otaku-nerdy look, and also the hairdo (which is very much the SAME as that of Otacon). Along both being the technological buddy. I did search for Q, but as far as I could find, most of them are very old. There is a young one yes, although the hairdo and otaku-look references more Otacon than it does Q.
  2. The Boss's reference didn't came to me until I did some checking of the characters. On James Bond, the female M is very old, like on her late 70s. This one here looks considerably younger, and The Boss is said to be on her early 40s , which is a fair age for how Master Plan looks like. Also the nod is even better if we do assume that Super Agent is also (partially at least) based on Snake as well, since The Boss was the mentor of Snake. On an interesting note, this reference could also perhaps be noticed on how both Super Agent and Master Plan have spiraling hairdos (perhaps to reinforce the Mentor-Disciple thing or also the Boss-Subordinate stuff, since Otacon does not have this hairdo, it implies a stronger connection between the two characters which again, seems to allude to The Boss and Snake).
  3. CQC is certainly not exclusive to Metal Gear, although it is a term the series did popularize. The artwork for Assault very much has Super Agent engaging in close combat with the black men. Also NinjaGoemon I think it was, brought up an interesting point. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Close_quarters_combat#Principles_of_assault That Detailed Planning part is very descriptive of both Resort and Assault, which further reinforces that it alludes to CQC, and since the Deck is paying homage to Espionage series, CQC is very much fundamentally used on Metal Gear more so than in any other, therefore by summing those elements up, it makes sense that they ARE indeed referencing Metal Gear here. As far as Mission Impossible thing I wouldn't put it behind either. SPYRAL are clearly not taking it from just one source, they are likely referencing many series here. James Bond is perhaps the first one that comes to mind, but that does not exclude Metal Gear either.
  4. Also it seems other users found other references. For example in the Drones. I tried searching Drones in James Bond, but to no real avail, although they are more prominent on the Metal Gear series. For example...

http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/Cypher http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/Kidnapper http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/UA-drone http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/Slider

Is what I can say at the moment. Although Super Agent being Snake is more debatable (at the very least neither James Bond or Snake have such a weird hairdo) although face wise it isn't that alien to Snake when you see images of the guy when he is younger and also beardless. http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/Solid_Snake

Future releases could lead to stronger allusions or perhaps allude to other stuff, I have no idea. But I so say that Metal Gear is very much a part of that Deck references to. Cheers.

Even Brought Up?[edit]

I don't know if this is too late to ask, but should we bring back the possibility of Metal Gear references in this? What if I came across any pages on that Wiki that would support that theory? --Yes, it's PSYCHID! He talks! He does stuff! 04:11, December 7, 2016 (UTC)

In lieu of the recent artwork reveals, the Metal Gear references look more obvious now, so yeah, go ahead. --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 18:36, April 15, 2017 (UTC)

It seems that while you gave permission to make edits to the page was quite some time ago so I'm going to go ahead and say that's it's okay to now make the changes. I'll try and find some refferences, but I still think there are some metal gear (the machines) references in there as well as other characters I can see. --Scorchgid (talkcontribs) 03:05, September 27, 2017 (UTC)
