Images[edit]

Good work so far. Thanks for conforming to image policy -- it makes my life MUCH easier! Here's an A+ for effort, and I look forward to see more of your work in the future!!! --Narchibald84 03:26, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Hey Thanks....

I'm actually uploading all the images from my own personal collection that I've scanned over the last few years. The images are all .gif and 400x580 at 600dpi. The resolution is the key to the images that I've been uploading. Figure everyone should be able to read the card for themselves :) Again, thanks and I'll keep working until I get tired and decide to finish my Yu-Gi-Oh! Game and Database Manager.

Much thanks for your help on the database; things should go a lot faster now. Please let me know if you can what pix you're missing (maybe post them here as "Cards that need New Images"?), and I'll see if I can find at least temporary versions elsewhere. --Narchibald84 19:07, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

You may want to check your source files. Some 400 x 580 images are for some reason still uploading with 275 x 400 resolution, with somewhat disastrous results for clarity. Look at TheKickManAST-EN-C.jpg, for example -- here's the pic actually on the Wiki server. For some reason, it's still saved at the 275 x 400 resolution. (For comparison, take a look at VampireLadyAST-EN-C.jpg, which displays the correct larger size when you click on the image link beneath the picture itself.) If necessary, I can delete pages that had a 275 x 400 image uploaded to them, and then you can reupload the 400 x 580 images, but that would be a hassle for both of us, so if you can figure out another solution I'd be more than happy. --Narchibald84 01:09, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Familiar Stranger on Pojo.Biz is my source on this one. Shueisha has had to relicense Toon Dark Magician Girl from Konami Digital Entertainment, since they now no longer have the right to distribute Sneak Preview Cards with Shonen Jump Magazine. Since the card has had to be relicensed, they cannot use SP2-EN002, instead, having to use JUMP-EN010 for the number.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 15:10, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

It would be best to confine that to a seperate Gallery of it's own. I shall show you what I mean when I get around to it.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 17:02, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Hey you have any ims? I have AIM MSN and Yahoo. --Evil Yugi 15:08, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Filenames[edit]

Please remember that ALL characters in a card's name are included in the pix filenames. This includes

  • commas (,)
  • dashes/hyphens (-)
  • ampersands (&)
  • exclamation marks (!)
  • percent signs (%)

The only exceptions to this rule are periods (.), question marks (?), and number signs (#). (Periods usually separate the filename from the extension; when used otherwise, they can cause problems. Question marks, although now allowed on some newer systems, cannot be used in filenames on most computers; once again, it can cause problems. Number signs don't actually muck up computer systems -- that I know of -- but we have avoided their use in filenames because the Wiki code uses # signs to reference line numbers.)

Other than that, things look good so far. --Narchibald84 20:11, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Valkyrie Question[edit]

A.. Yes I have proof for changing the Valkyries. First of all, Element Vakyrie is a Fairy. Also, the fact lies in Valkyrie Brunhilde's effect. When she is summoned, she gains points for all Warriors and Dragons, yes? In the US Version of that episode where she appears, if you watch the calculation of added points to her, she does not gain any points from herself, therefore cannot be a Warrior (or Dragon). I hope this clears up any confusion. For additional proof, please check the website www.janime.info. Though I reccomend watching the episode carefully during the calculation scene to see for yourself. --HerrRodney 02:35, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

Slight Change in Policy[edit]

Narch made this suggestion, and I somewhat agree. The Japanese Names for Articles are to be used without Quotes. Japanese names next to cards on Set Pages are unaffected by this change.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 23:05, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

I would like to ask the person who placed the most recent comment a few questions. I asked him to make a user account. I doubt that we will be able to have an english image though. We do not even have an english image of The Seal of Orichalcos! My scanner is down so I cannot upload my Japanese Horus. I will try to find another way to upload it. I guess we have to go on word of mouth. I didn't do the revisions to that article because I wanted solid proof before I made that drastic of a change. I just hope he responds soon. Temp Images[edit]

Here's some info for you...

  • PCOUWTempImage.jpg is a promo from the January 1999 issue of VJUMP -- Japanese text, English text (Google's translation renders its name <<Indigo eye white dragon>> under "V jump" section.) The unusual flavor text is due to the fact that BEWD's flavor text has changed since its original release in the Starter Box. At that time, it's flavor text was 「攻撃・守備が最高の、なかなか手に入らない超レアカード。」 (Babelfish: Attack defense the highest, the super rare card which very does not enter into the hand.), readily comparable to this card's flavor text of Super rare card; the highest attack & defense card, too difficult to get. Later editions of BEWD have the revised flavor text 「高い攻撃力を誇る伝説のドラゴン。 どんな相手でも粉砕する、その破壊力は計り知れない。」 (Babelfish: The dragon of the legend which is proud of high attack power. It pulverizes with any partner, the destructive power is unfathomed.), which became the flavor text This legendary dragon is a powerful engine of destruction. Virtually invincible. Very few have faced this awesome creature and lived to tell the tale. we are so familiar with in the TCG.
    Suggested filename: Blue-EyesWhiteDragonVJ-CH-UR.jpg
  • PCOUWTempImage2.jpg is somewhat trickier--I'll walk through my analysis here. First, I'm quite sure it's not fake, as not only have I never seen a convincing fake of a Secret Rare, but also because the foiling matches perfectly with what would be expected from a Secret Rare BEWD (compare with English versions). Second, it must be from a very early OCG release, as it lacks the holographic seal in the bottom corner; this places it in Series 1 releases. This narrows it down to SB, EX, LB, KA, and EX-R. Of these, LB, KA, and EX-R can be eliminated as they all had set abbreviations; further, it can't be EX, as both EX and EX-R had the "wild" Blue-Eyes pic. Hence, it must be SB...except for the fact that *supposedly* all SB BEWD's were Ultras, not Secrets. Net result: I'm majorly confused here. I'm guessing it's either a) a rarity misprint (somewhat doubtful, I would say, as rarity misprints usually involve EITHER text OR--more rarely--the picture, virtually NEVER both) or b) an early promo (more likely, I think, although I can't say where it was published).
Suggested filename: Blue-EyesWhiteDragonPRM-JP-ScR.jpg (PRM = Promo; temporary filename until more info is available)
  • PCOUWTempImage3.jpg is a 1999 Weekly Jump promo -- Japanese text, no English translation available from Google, unfortunately. (It's the fourth subheading in the third section, quite obvious as it's one of the few cards on the page whose name appears in Roman characters. That section--labeled
週刊少年ジャンプ--translates as "Weekly boy jump" in Altavista, and further listings support it as referring to the Weekly Jump promos.)
    Suggested filename: Blue-EyesWhiteDragonWJ-AE-UR.jpg

My Comments:

  • Temp1 was an interesting surprise. I had been of the opinion that only one OCG card--the Kaiba structure deck BEWD--had ever had an official Chinese-language release.
  • Temp2 is a real mystery. Even--and this was a shock--even PukiWiki (basically the Japanese equivalent of this site) had no record of a Secret Rare BEWD in the OCG. Good hunting!
  • Temp3 was also quite surprising. There are only a few Asian-English promos, and most of them conform to the font styles commonly used by Upper Deck. To the best of my knowledge, this--and the Kaiba structure deck BEWD--are the only two Asian-English cards with the Japanese-style fullwidth Roman lettering.
--Narchibald84 23:07, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

P.S. I talked to TwoTailed on Thursday -- he agrees with my suggestions.

--Narchibald84 17:08, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

To the best of my knowledge, Japanese characters do NOT belong in card article titles. Rather, they are appended to the English names in set/deck/etc. listings and/or appear in card GALLERY titles. --Narchibald84 09:04, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

SRL[edit]

  • Do you know if SRL cards numbered SRL-EXXX and SRL-XXX exist? I can't find info on them anywhere other this site. I just think they kept the MRL sets for the North American and European sets, while SRL served as the worldwide. --Deltaneos 00:52, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

HGR Image of Rainbow Dragon[edit]

That nice little number I happened to come across online. I don't remember where, exactly; somebody had posted it in a thread where people were wanting to see what the new foil tech looked like and were complaining about the (admittedly very poor) images that had been posted. I don't know how it was done, but using a camera MAY get a better result than a scanner. If you're going to try that, I'd suggest you see about getting one of the fancy little "tetrapod" thingies -- it looks like a four-legged plastic spider with a rack in the top that you set the camera upside down in, and helps to hold the camera steady when you're taking the picture. Good luck!

Prefixes to namespace[edit]

Sorry to bother but, have you read Yu-Gi-Oh!:Community Portal#Prefixes to Namespaces? Basically it would change Card Gallery, Card Rulings, Card Errata, Card Tips, Anime and Manga Appearances and Card Trivia: pages to a special type of page, like pages starting User: or Template:.

Advantages:
  1. We'll be able to filter the Recent Changes to just tips, rulings, whichever.
  2. When your searching for pages you can select any of these as a namespace to search in.
  3. Currently when you click random page, you're more likely to land in a page regarding a card that has many of the pages in the Other Card Information section. For example Elemental Hero Necroshade has all six pages in this section, so you have 7 chances of landing on a Necroshade page compared to Spike Seadra where you have only 1 chance of landing on a Spike Seadra info page.
  4. You'll be able to open a random Gallery or a random Tip etc. by using [[Special:Random/Card Gallery]] etc.
  5. We'll be able to merge the Card Navigation templates and will not need to include the name parameter. Just simply add {{Navigation}} or {{Index}} (whatever we call it) to the page. Whereas before you would have to type
{{Trivia
|name = Dark Magician
}}
In case where a name2 parameter would have been needed, we would just need to type {{Index|Dark Magician (Bandai)}} instead of,
{{Trivia
|name = Dark Magician (Bandai)
|name2 = Dark Magician
}}
The one template would hold for all pages in the Other Card Inforamtion section, so {{Index}} would be used in each page insted of Template:Rulings for Rulings, Template:Tips for Tips
Disadvantages
  1. You can't get random page to land in something completely random, it will only open a random page in the Main Space (which will exclude Galleries, Tips etc.). Unless you specify it be a random gallery, tip, etc.

We need feedback before we can do anything, so let us know if you have any thoughts (for or against). -- Deltaneos 12:31, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Image preferences[edit]

I know this will make things more dificult to find, but it's now prefered that scanned images be saved with the extension .png' rather than .jpg. The quality of pngs tends to be better. A jpeg image loses quality each time it's saved. I assume your scanning the SDRL cards. Could you maybe sav and upload them as png files? -- Deltaneos 02:23, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Also i'm not sure that the 400x580 is an ideal prefernce for the image sizes. There doesn't seem to be a problem with uploading bigger images since they can always be scaled down. -- Deltaneos 02:25, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm admit I'm not fond of the idea myself. It was in fact TTF's idea. He and Dantman have insisted png files are better. I think the jpg version of Felgrand Dragon was originally saved as jpg then converted to png. But if you do have a reason that we continue with jpegs it'd great, because seriously we have over 10,000 jpgs. As for the ideal size, it's not a fussy issue, but TTF also said there's nothing going wrong over the 400x580, since it is possible and not difficult to scale down. Doesn't really matter either way since we never display them bigger than 400x580. (It's just going under that size is the problem) -- Deltaneos 02:44, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
I agree with all that... 'cept for the messagebox. I don't think I can see it. -- Deltaneos 02:58, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Personally I prefer Jpgs as it is more widely used, however if you want .pngs that is doable, do not remember the incident with me changing a wrong set name. but if it was wrong don't expect me NOT to correct it.
