"Magistus" (三賢者マギストス Magisutosu) is the first chapter of the Magistus arc of the Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG Stories manga, and the twentieth chapter of the series overall. It was first published on January 19, 2024, in the V Jump magazine.

In a world where magic existed, a mother tells her baby the story of three sages forced to fight a former friend who used them to acquire great power.

Summary[edit]

The intro shows the backs of numerous cards, while the narration says that they possess ancient powers and people can catch glimpses of the endless worlds inside them. One card opens to show its world, which the narration says contains the tale of a Magistus trio.

Selene speaks to her baby

In a palace, a woman stands on a balcony observing a very big full moon. She cradles her child, while saying it will soon be time for them to be apart and the last thing she would like to tell the child is a story from before their world was brimming with magic.

Long ago, magic was not common place in their world, with just small shreds of it drifting though. Because of this people were suspicious of spellcasters; sometimes fearing and sometimes scorning them. For those spellcasters, the village Graybeard existed for them to freely conduct their magic research, safe from the contempt of the rest of the world. However, the status quo was shattered one day. Because of one spellcaster, all magic users ended up opening Theurgy, the gate to other worlds.

In a flashback, Aleister Crowley, Endymion, and Rilliona all stand before Theurgy. Crowley says that they must somehow close it and suggests combining their powers, like the guardians said. However, they are interrupted by Zoroa, the spellcaster who caused Theurgy to open. Zoroa states that he cannot allow them to close it.

Rilliona accuses Zoroa of betraying them. He replies by asking if this is not what they wished for, but Rilliona says that if she knew what he really was, she never would have went along with this. Endymion points out that a lot of people will die due to the magic power overflowing into their world and Crowley adds that it is not just people; a lot plants and animals will perish too. Zoroa is aware, but sees it as a natural process necessary for the grand era that is about to commence. He says that those who cannot adapt will simply be weeded out. Crowley asks what happened to the Zoroa they once knew. He replied that the search for truth trumps all and that that he thought Crowley of all people would understand that. Rilliona tells Crowley that there is no point in trying to reason with Zoroa, as he no longer has a shred of empathy left for this world. Endymion insists that they are going to have to fight.

Zoroa welcomes the fight and begins by launching his "Divine Conflagration Lance" attack at the three of them. They are all amazed by the level of his power, which Endymion believes he got from another world. However Zoroa claims that it is merely the extend of his own power. Crowley gets excited about battling such a powerful spellcaster, but Endymion insists that now is not a time to be joking around and wonders if they can win with the foolish Crowley on their side. Rilliona has faith that they will win, as they have the power that the guardians bestowed upon them.

Crowley, Endymion, and Rilliona join their wands and call upon the guardians to lend them their power. They focus, absorb magic, and then release, causing Aiwass, Artemis, and Ninaruru to be summoned. The trio that summoned them are finally introduced to the reader as the Magistus trio; "Crowley, the Magistus of Grimoires", "Endymion, the Magistus of Mastery", and "Rilliona, the Magistus of Verre".
