"Gravekeeper's", known as "Gravekeeper" (墓守 Hakamori) in the OCG, is an archetype of Spellcaster monsters based on ancient Egyptian tomb-keepers. All monsters of this archetype are DARK, except for the EARTH "Gravekeeper's Commandant". "Chief (character)|Gravekeeper's" Decks usually revolve around "NecrovalleyChief" and gains power from it, while avoiding its drawbacks. ==Playing style==
===Strategy===The key card to the "Gravekeeper's" Deck archetype is "Necrovalley", a Field Spell Cardstun that increases Deck revolving around the ATKField Spell and "DEFNecrovalley of "Gravekeeper's" monsters by 500. "Necrovalley" also stops effects from affecting cards in the is a Graveyardfloodgate, like "Monster Reborn" and "Call of the Haunted", and that prevents either player both players from banishing from their Graveyards with moving cards like "out of either Soul ReleaseGraveyard". However, "Necrovalley" does not prevent effects shutting down large amounts of interactions and combos that activate in involve the Graveyard, so cards like "Mystic Tomato" and "Pyramid Turtle" still activate. Because of the effects of "Necrovalley", this Deck tends to be somewhat anti-meta, countering "Zombie", and to a certain extent, "Psychic" monsters, "Inzektor", and "Chaos Dragon". It is therefore an ideal anti-meta Deck. Because most of the supported by "Gravekeeper's" monsters are DARK they , who can also use search out "Allure of DarknessNecrovalley"and have simple beatdown-based effects, and other DARK Attribute support cards. Although "Necrovalley" stops most Graveyard related numerous supporting Spell/Traps with further floodgating effects, "Gravekeeper's" have their own support that are unaffected by "Necrovalley", namely such as "Rite of SpiritRoyal Tribute" and or "Gravekeeper's SteleHidden Temples of Necrovalley". Individual "Gravekeeper's Chief" enables your graveyard to be unaffected by "Necrovalley"monsters typically have simple searching, offensive, or defensive effects. This enables the use of the effect of "Dark Armed Dragon". Your opponent is also allowed Due to target your graveyard howevertheir comparatively lower power level, so this could become a disadvantage. With the Starstrike Blast set release came one of the most important members of the archetype with "Gravekeeper's Recruiter". This monster acts like a decks focus on the floodgating effects of "Gravekeeper's" exclusive "Witch of the Black ForestNecrovalley"and its supporting Spell/Traps, allowing using the player to add a "Gravekeeper's" monster with 1500 or less DEF from the Deck to the handmonsters as searchers and beatsticks. The multiple combinations possible with In this creature to generate advantage and thin the Deck adds much needed consistency to the "Gravekeeper's" archetype. With the release of Legacy of the Valiantrole, the key "Gravekeeper's" lockdown becomes even more fearsome. monsters are "Commandant" , who can protect search for "Necrovalley" by discarding itself, and at the same time prevent effects that "Priestess in ", who treats the Graveyardfield as "Necrovalley" with its effect. For additional, easily accessible board presence, completely locking down the Graveyard. Deck primarily relies on "Spiritualist" , who can call out any "Gravekeeperperform a Fusion Summon to summon the archetype's" in face-down defense position; it can help bring out Fusion Monster, "Supernaturalist" or , and "Headman" and use their Flip Effects, allowing who revives a Level 4 "SpyGravekeeper's" effect to be used to Special monster on Normal Summon high level Gravekeeper monsters (without tribute. "Gravekeeper's Ambusher" can recycle being affected by "Necrovalley"). "Deck's Oracle" can destroy any annoying Flip Effect Monster and is a great beatstick with an ATK ranging from 2400 to over 3000. Finally, the "Gravekeeper's" field control main search spell is complete with "Gravekeeper's HereticNecrovalley Throne" who is not effected by any other card effect as long as "Necrovalley" is on the field. The use of "Necrovalley" in this archetype prevents -related Spell/Traps are the opponent from using the Graveyard as a resource. ThereforeDeck's main victory conditions, a very large number and most of opposing strategies will be at them require "Necrovalley" and/or controlling a severe disadvantage while this card is on the field (Zombie, "InfernityGravekeeper's", monster to function. These include "X-SaberRoyal Tribute", Dragonwhich forces both players to discard all monsters in their hand, "Temples of Necrovalley", "Inzektor", etc.). It is also very effective against strategies that rely on banishing cards which prevents both players from the Graveyard to activate their effects. They also have excellent search capabilities, as exemplified by Special Summoning non-"Gravekeeper's Spy" "Gravekeeper's Nobleman" monsters, and "Gravekeeper's RecruiterImperial Tombs of Necrovalley". "Recruiter" is especially useful in this respect, creating fantastic combinations with "a Gravekeeper's DescendantCounter Trap"negate
Weaknesses
Their intense reliance on "Necrovalley" and their own effects makes them very vulnerable to opponents who enjoy using * The deck lacks accessible searchers for its Spell and Trap destroying effects and monster card negating effects, so cards to protect /Traps that are not "Necrovalley" (such as "Malefic Stardust Dragon"), making its game plan slow and traps that can help the player maintain a field and hand advantage over a stronger opponent despite losing access to Monster Card effects amid other things are highly recommendedinconsistent"Consecrated Light" is another weakness of this Deck because it is almost entirely made up of DARK monsters. * The only good thing is that it still allows you to Set DARK monsters. "Gravekeeper's Commandant" can destroy it by battle deck lacks strong and you can flip "Gravekeeper's Descendant" and activate easily accessible swarming or boss monster options, making its effectmonster boards extremely fragile"Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror" can also be very troublesome for "Gravekeeper's" Decks as it stops * As the effects of all deck revolves around "Gravekeeper's" monsters other than "Gravekeeper's Commandant" from being used. "Last Day of Witch" and other anti-Spellcaster cards can also cause problems for "Gravekeeper'sNecrovalley", since all of them are Spellcasters. Your opponent may use removing "Mind ControlNecrovalley" on your face-shuts down "Spy" or "Guard" and then Flip Summon them on their side of the field, which is especially deadly in the mirror match as "Spy" will provide field advantage for your opponent. "Guard" could also decrease your field presence and leave you open for an attackDeck instantly"Gravekeeper's" Decks most destructive weapon, "Royal Tribute", can put you at * As a severe disadvantage when Dueling a "Dark World" DARK-based Deck, as these gain powerful effects from being discarded the Deck is countered by a card effect, especially an opponent's effect. This can be partly solved by siding them out for Antianti-Meta DARK cards, such as like "The End of Anubis", "Dimensional Fissure", "D.D. CrowConsecrated Light", or "Secret Village of the SpellcastersShadow-Imprisoning Mirror".

==NotesTrivia==<references group=* "NotesGravekeeper's" is the first proper archetype in the TCG/>OCG, in that it is the first card series to receive support cards (in Pharaonic Guardian) that specifically interact with cards containing the "Gravekeeper's" string in their names.** Though the "Dark Magician", "Blue-Eyes", and "Forbidden One" archetypes include cards from sets before Pharaonic Guardian, they did not receive supporting cards that specify their archetypal name until much later.* Though the archetype was not used by Ishizu Ishtar and Marik Ishtar in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, it became retroactively associated with them; the two are shown using "Gravekeeper's" cards in some video games, and Structure Deck: Marik includes some "Gravekeeper's" cards.** The connection likely originates from the fact that Ishizu and Marik shared the archetype's theme of being Tomb Keepers. Several "Gravekeeper's" monsters also resemble the Ishtar family.
