Each player's [[Main Deck|Main]] and [[Extra Deck]] is placed face-down in their respective [[Zone]] at the start of each game. During a game, cards are normally placed face-down by [[Set]]ting them.
Monster Cards must be placed face-down in [[Defense Position]], except by the effect effects of "[[Darkness Approaches]]", and the [[anime-only]] card, [[Miracle Silk Hat]]; which allows face-down [[Attack Position]]. Face-down [[Monster Card]]s cannot be [[equip]]ped with [[Equip Card]]s; if a monster equipped with an Equip Card(s) is flipped face-down, the Equip Card(s) equipped to that flipped monster is [[destroy]]ed.
Spell and Trap Cards can only be placed face-down in the [[Spell & Trap Zone]]s or the [[Field Zone]] (in the case of [[Field Spell Card]]s). [[Quick-Play Spell Card]]s and Trap Cards cannot be activated during the turn they are Set.
