Slifer and Obelisk

How did Slifer survive Obelisk effect. In it's card text on your wikia it states that

Cannot be targeted by, or leave the field by, the effects of Spell/Trap Cards and non-DIVINE monsters, except by its own effect.

Obelisk is a divine monster. Therefore Slifer should have left the field, and be whipped out even before the arrival of kuriboh.--SHONENHIKADA (talk • contribs) 05:21, August 15, 2013 (UTC)

This is the same question I'm wondering. The entire Egyptian God fight seemed to bend the rules several times in that one should've destroyed the other at several points but didn't just to make the fight longer and more epic. Does SLifer's ability to be unaffected by targeting effects somehow include Obelisk, considering how Slifer was the only monster on Yugi's side of the field?
