Trapeze Magicians EffectEdit

When Trapeze Magician attacked Bloom Diva, Dennis did not take any damage from Bloom Diva's effect due to Trapeze Magician's effect. But since Trapeze Magician only negates effect damage and Bloom Diva's effect causes the opponent to take battle damage, wouldn't that mean Trapeze Magician stopping the damage be an error?
