Playstyle
The archetype can be split into two type of monsters :
 +
* Higher Level Machina that either have an effect to discard another Machina/Machine to the GY such as "Machina Air Raider", "Machina Irradiator", "Machina Cannon" and "Machina Fortress" or want to be discarded to the graveyard due to their graveyard effect such as "Machina Ruinforce", "Machina Megaform" and "Machina Citadel". These Machina effect varies between removal and negate effect of "Machina Fortress", "Machina Citadel" and "Machina Ruinforce" to replacing current Machina such as "Machina Air Raider" and "Machina Irradiator" and "Machina Megaform".
 +
* Lower level Machina that help protect, mil, search and swarm the higher level Machina.
 +
The only exception to this rule is "Machina Metalcruncher" which is a hybrid between these two types being able to be normal summon to search out other Machina and being good discard so it could be bring back with higher ATK with it's effect.

The Machinas, known as Machiners in the OCG, monsters are an Archetype of EARTH Attribute Machine-Type cards that made their debut in Japanese Premium Pack 9. They currently have a Structure Deck, Machina Mayhem, which has recently come out. The only appearance they make in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime is in episode 11. They are also used by Kirk, one of Yakou Tenma's card professors in Yu-Gi-Oh! R.
+
The original "Machina" playstyle was focused on Special Summoning "Machina Force" with the effect of "Commander Covington"; this playstyle had become obsolete with later "Machina" support and boss monsters, which are far more effective and poorly synergize with this original playstyle. Some "Machina" monsters are also Union monsters, but these effects only play a minimal role in the current "Machina" playstyle.

The cards in the Archetype are their support cards Commander Covington, Machina Soldier, Machina Sniper, Machina Defender, Machina Force, Machina Fortress, Machina Gearframe, and Machina Peacekeeper.
+
Generally, EARTH "Machina" monsters are high-Level monsters with two common effect patterns: Special Summoning themselves by discarding Machine monsters, and destroying the player's Machine monsters (or trigger their effects in response to their destruction) for advantage. The two main "Machina" boss monsters with field-holding powers are "Machina Fortress" and "Machina Citadel", whose effects reflect these two patterns: "Fortress" can be Special Summoned from the hand or GY by discarding Machine monster(s) whose total Levels equal 8 or more, while "Citadel" can be Special Summoned from the GY if an EARTH Machine monster is destroyed, and has a Quick Effect that destroys the opponent's monsters by destroying one of the player's Machine monster.

The Archetype involves getting the three Machina monsters onto your field and using Commander Covington's effect to Special Summon Machina Force.
+
The two key "Machina" consistency monsters are "Machina Metalcruncher" and "Machina Gearframe", who can search out "Machina" monsters when Summoned. "Machina Air Raider" and "Machina Irradiator" are supportive monsters that also require discarding to be Special Summoned, and can destroy the player's monsters to Special Summon "Machina" monsters from the Deck or GY.

All of the Machina cards were finally released into the TCG in the Structure Deck: Machina Mayhem that came  out in February.
+
The DARK "Machina" monsters have more diverse supportive effects. "Machina Possesstorage" revives "Machina" monsters in the GY, "Machina Unclaspare" is an extender that also mills a "Machina" monster, and "Machina Resavenger" is an ATK boost hand trap with self-recovery. The DARK "Machina" boss monster, "Machina Ruinforce", is a 4600 ATK beatstick that can Special Summon itself from the GY by banishing Machine monsters in the GY; it can negate card effects during the Battle Phase, and can Special Summon banished "Machina" monsters when destroyed.

Playing Style
+
Their spell and trap varies from searching, protection and recycling. "Machina Redeployment" help dump higher level Machina into the GY to search more Machina. "Machina Overdrive" help bring out a Machina right from the deck and serves as recycle, "Machina Armored Unit" and "Machina Defense Perimeter" both serves as protection and recycling.

Before the release of Structure Deck: Machina Mayhem, this deck was hard to play effectively and competitively, as it required you to maintain the four component parts to Machina Force. Since Machina Sniper didn't have the 'two-card lock' wording that Marauding Captain, Magician's Valkyria and Morphtronic Magnen had, you couldn't block your opponents' attacks. Machina Soldier could special summon another Machina, but usually that would not be enough. The concept was completely ignored until the Structure was released.
+
The "Machina" archetype's overall game plan is a relentless beatdown strategy, constantly dumping and reviving easily Special Summoned high-ATK boss monsters to end the game as quickly as possible. While the Deck has little to no protection, it is capable of dodging targeted effect with their self-popping effect and either replace themselves or reviving another "Machina" monster from the Deck or graveyard, or blow up the opponent's field with the effect of "Machina Citadel". However, the archetype's reliance on discards and destroying the player's monsters gives it a poor grind game. This archetypal weakness is typically mitigated by hybridizing the Deck with another Machine archetype that provides a much stronger grind game, the two most common ones being the "Gadget" and "Infinitrack" archetype.

Recommended cards
Nowadays, the core components of a 'Machina Deck' are Fortress, Gearframe, and Peacekeeper because of their versatility in any Machine oriented Deck. Machina Force also sees play, but only because it is an easy fodder for Fortress' summon requirement that can be easily searched by Gearframe. A common loop in all Machina Deck variants is that Gearframe and Peacekeeper search for each other, always making sure that there is a machine-type monster ready for Fortress' discard cost.

+
<!--This is not an exact Decklist. Please do not add multiples or staples.-->
Using the Gadgets is also recommended, since their searching allows for more Machines for Fortress. Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive is a good Draw engine, and it is a good target for Black Salvo for an easy level seven Synchro Summon.
+
|effect monsters =

+
* Machina Air Raider
Also, using Future Fusion summoning Chimeratech Overdragon is a good way to send copies of Fortress to the graveyard, ready for summoning. This can be timed along with Geartown's effect upon destruction to special summon Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon.
+
* Machina Cannon

+
* Machina Citadel
Because of Fortress' near constant summon fodder, numerous high-ATK monsters, and destruction-saving Union Monsters, this kind of deck plays with relentess Beatdown and some field and hand control.
+
* Machina Fortress

+
* Machina Irradiator‎‎
A weakness of this deck is being removed from play, as either Fortress nor Peacekeeper activate when Dimensional Fissure, Banisher of the Light, Banisher of the Radiance, and/or Macro Cosmos is in play. System Down is also a devastating card for this deck, therefore a side deck of Imperial Iron Wall and cards that destroy/negate spells and traps is in order.
+
* Machina Megaform

+
* Machina Metalcruncher
Recommended Cards
+
* Machina Possesstorage

+
* Machina Resavenger
* Machina Gearframe this card is a good Machina card-searcher (Get either Machina Fortess or Machina Force with its effect).
+
* Machina Ruinforce
* Machina Peacekeeper this card is for getting Machina Gearframe, then using Gearframe to search for Machina Fortress.
+
* Machina Soldier
* Solidarity will boost your Machina monsters by 800 since all Machina monsters are Machine-Type monsters.
+
* Machina Unclaspare
* Machina Fortress is a better win condition then Machina Force, due to its ability to Special Summon itself, and is more consistent in Machina Decks. It's effect is incredible and has a good 2500 ATK to come with it. Also it can be revived from the graveyard by ditching Machine monsters equal to level 8
+
* Meklord Emperor Wisel
* Rivalry of Warlords is helpfull card because every monster in Structure Deck: Machina Mayhem is Machine-Type so your cards are not limited. If your opponent doesn´t play with an exclusive Type Deck you will probably have an advantage.
+
* Dark Hole Dragon
* Gadget Monsters , Red Gadget, Green Gadget, and Yellow Gadget. Due to their searching ability they are a good choice in getting out Machina Fortress. Combo this with Scrap Recycler and you can add them back to the deck and draw a card.
+
* Goldilocks the Battle Landscaper
* Strategy Disruption cards such as Compulsory Evacuation Device, Bottomless Trap Hole, Shrink, Dimensional Prison, Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, etc.
+
* Gold Gadget
* Cyber Dragon, since this card is semi-limited, it's best to run two.
+
* Silver Gadget
* Overload Fusion, use this card as a last resort. Thanks to Machina Fortress's ability to dump monsters to the graveyard, you'll be able to gain more than enough monsters to power up your Chimeratech Overdragon with enough attack to possibly end the game.
+
* Scrap Recycler
* Chimeratech Fortress Dragon, a very useful card for OTK or in case you're in need of an emergency beatstick. The high searching power of the Gadgets, combined with a few special summon cards, will make this extremely easy to pull out once you have a Cyber Dragon on the field.
+
* Super Express Bullet Train
* Machina Force, useful for Machina Fortess because it's level 10, plus it's searchable with Machina Gearframe.
+
* Therion "King" Regulus
* Giant Trunade, Heavy Storm; useful for taking out your opponent's backrow, allowing for easy summons and making sure your Machina Fortress or other monsters don't get destroyed.
+
* "Infinitrack" monsters
* Shredder, is useful for destroying high level monsters. This helps you destroy monsters by discarding a higher level monster from your hand. Use this with Machine Assembly Line and you can special summon from the graveyard.
+
* Psychic Processor
* Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon Slide in two of these along with two or three Geartowns in your deck to bring out another boss monster to take down your opponent. An attack of 3000 who stops spell and trap cards whenever he attacks is a pretty big blow to your opponent. Plus, being a level 8 Machine, it's perfect for discarding in order to get out your Machina Fortress. If you run the gadgets alongside him, you can use them as tributes in order to gain his other effects as well. Tribute Green Gadget and you get a nasty piercer who can't be stopped by spell and traps.
+

* You must have at least two copies of Machina Force in the Deck to use this combo.

Weaknesses
 +
* The archetype relies on its GY to maximize its limited grind game; if all monsters sent to the GY are banished instead, such as by the effect of "Dimensional Fissure" or "Macro Cosmos", the archetype becomes completely incapable of grinding and will easily burn itself out with its discard and self-destruction effects. In addition some Machina monster also need their card to be sent to the GY to activate their effects which means these card are extra effective against the archetype.
 +
* Due to the deck huge reliance on Type and Attribute to proc most of their effect, cards such as "Zombie World" or "Lair of Darkness" will shut down half of the archetype.
 +
* As a Machine archetype, specific Type-counter cards such as "System Down" or "Chimeratech Fortress Dragon" are very effective against the Deck as Side Deck options.

"Machina", known as "Machiners" (マシンナーズ Mashinnāzu) in the OCG and some video games, and as "Machine" in the English manga, is an archetype of EARTH and DARK Machine monsters which debuted in the OCG in Premium Pack 9. "Machina" monsters were used by Kirk Dixon in the Yu-Gi-Oh! R manga, Blister in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime, and Bolt Tanner in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's manga. Jerome McHale explained in a post on Pojo that the archetype's name was localized in the TCG name to "Machina" from "Machiners" because the former name "clearly demonstrates that these are Machine monsters, not other Types of monsters that do work on machines".

Playstyle[edit]

The archetype can be split into two type of monsters :

The only exception to this rule is "Machina Metalcruncher" which is a hybrid between these two types being able to be normal summon to search out other Machina and being good discard so it could be bring back with higher ATK with it's effect.

Weaknesses[edit]

 • The archetype relies on its GY to maximize its limited grind game; if all monsters sent to the GY are banished instead, such as by the effect of "Dimensional Fissure" or "Macro Cosmos", the archetype becomes completely incapable of grinding and will easily burn itself out with its discard and self-destruction effects. In addition some Machina monster also need their card to be sent to the GY to activate their effects which means these card are extra effective against the archetype.
 • Due to the deck huge reliance on Type and Attribute to proc most of their effect, cards such as "Zombie World" or "Lair of Darkness" will shut down half of the archetype.
 • As a Machine archetype, specific Type-counter cards such as "System Down" or "Chimeratech Fortress Dragon" are very effective against the Deck as Side Deck options.
