The Machinas, known as Machiners in the OCG, monsters are an Archetype of EARTH Attribute Machine-Type cards that made their debut in Japanese Premium Pack 9. They currently have a Structure Deck, Machina Mayhem, which has recently come out. The only appearance they make in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime is in episode 11. They are also used by Kirk, one of Yakou Tenma's card professors in Yu-Gi-Oh! R.

The cards in the Archetype are their support cards Commander Covington, Machina Soldier, Machina Sniper, Machina Defender, Machina Force, Machina Fortress, Machina Gearframe, and Machina Peacekeeper.

The Archetype involves getting the three Machina monsters onto your field and using Commander Covington's effect to Special Summon Machina Force.

All of the Machina cards were finally released into the TCG in the Structure Deck: Machina Mayhem that came out in February.

Playing Style

Before the release of Structure Deck: Machina Mayhem, this deck was hard to play effectively and competitively, as it required you to maintain the four component parts to Machina Force. Since Machina Sniper didn't have the 'two-card lock' wording that Marauding Captain, Magician's Valkyria and Morphtronic Magnen had, you couldn't block your opponents' attacks. Machina Soldier could special summon another Machina, but usually that would not be enough. The concept was completely ignored until the Structure was released.

Nowadays, the core components of a 'Machina Deck' are Fortress, Gearframe, and Peacekeeper because of their versatility in any Machine oriented Deck. Machina Force also sees play, but only because it is an easy fodder for Fortress' summon requirement that can be easily searched by Gearframe. A common loop in all Machina Deck variants is that Gearframe and Peacekeeper search for each other, always making sure that there is a machine-type monster ready for Fortress' discard cost.

Using the Gadgets is also recommended, since their searching allows for more Machines for Fortress. Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive is a good Draw engine, and it is a good target for Black Salvo for an easy level seven Synchro Summon.

Also, using Future Fusion summoning Chimeratech Overdragon is a good way to send copies of Fortress to the graveyard, ready for summoning. This can be timed along with Geartown's effect upon destruction to special summon Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon.

Because of Fortress' near constant summon fodder, numerous high-ATK monsters, and destruction-saving Union Monsters, this kind of deck plays with relentess Beatdown and some field and hand control.

A weakness of this deck is being removed from play, as either Fortress nor Peacekeeper activate when Dimensional Fissure, Banisher of the Light, Banisher of the Radiance, and/or Macro Cosmos is in play. System Down is also a devastating card for this deck, therefore a side deck of Imperial Iron Wall and cards that destroy/negate spells and traps is in order.

Recommended Cards

  • Machina Gearframe this card is a good Machina card-searcher (Get either Machina Fortess or Machina Force with its effect).
  • Machina Peacekeeper this card is for getting Machina Gearframe, then using Gearframe to search for Machina Fortress.
  • Solidarity will boost your Machina monsters by 800 since all Machina monsters are Machine-Type monsters.
  • Machina Fortress is a better win condition then Machina Force, due to its ability to Special Summon itself, and is more consistent in Machina Decks. It's effect is incredible and has a good 2500 ATK to come with it. Also it can be revived from the graveyard by ditching Machine monsters equal to level 8
  • Rivalry of Warlords is helpfull card because every monster in Structure Deck: Machina Mayhem is Machine-Type so your cards are not limited. If your opponent doesn´t play with an exclusive Type Deck you will probably have an advantage.
  • Gadget Monsters , Red Gadget, Green Gadget, and Yellow Gadget. Due to their searching ability they are a good choice in getting out Machina Fortress. Combo this with Scrap Recycler and you can add them back to the deck and draw a card.
  • Strategy Disruption cards such as Compulsory Evacuation Device, Bottomless Trap Hole, Shrink, Dimensional Prison, Phoenix Wing Wind Blast, etc.
  • Cyber Dragon, since this card is semi-limited, it's best to run two.
  • Overload Fusion, use this card as a last resort. Thanks to Machina Fortress's ability to dump monsters to the graveyard, you'll be able to gain more than enough monsters to power up your Chimeratech Overdragon with enough attack to possibly end the game.
  • Chimeratech Fortress Dragon, a very useful card for OTK or in case you're in need of an emergency beatstick. The high searching power of the Gadgets, combined with a few special summon cards, will make this extremely easy to pull out once you have a Cyber Dragon on the field.
  • Machina Force, useful for Machina Fortess because it's level 10, plus it's searchable with Machina Gearframe.
  • Giant Trunade, Heavy Storm; useful for taking out your opponent's backrow, allowing for easy summons and making sure your Machina Fortress or other monsters don't get destroyed.
  • Shredder, is useful for destroying high level monsters. This helps you destroy monsters by discarding a higher level monster from your hand. Use this with Machine Assembly Line and you can special summon from the graveyard.
  • Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon Slide in two of these along with two or three Geartowns in your deck to bring out another boss monster to take down your opponent. An attack of 3000 who stops spell and trap cards whenever he attacks is a pretty big blow to your opponent. Plus, being a level 8 Machine, it's perfect for discarding in order to get out your Machina Fortress. If you run the gadgets alongside him, you can use them as tributes in order to gain his other effects as well. Tribute Green Gadget and you get a nasty piercer who can't be stopped by spell and traps.
  • Scrap Recycler summon it, send the Fortress to the grave, revive later (or immediately). Plus all of the Machinas (except Fortress, Force & Peacekeeper) apply for its second effect.
