Q&A Rulings

  • Q: My opponent controls a face-up "Stygian Dirge". In this situation, if I Special Summon "Cockadoodledoo" as a Level 3 or 4 monster by its own effect, what happens to its Level?
A: If you Special Summon "Cockadoodledoo" by its 1st effect, it is Special Summoned as a Level 3 monster, but its Level is reduced by 1 due to the effect of "Stygian Dirge", and it becomes a Level 2 monster. If you Special Summon "Cockadoodledoo" by its 2nd effect, it is Special Summoned as a Level 4 monster, but its Level is reduced by 1 due to the effect of "Stygian Dirge", and it becomes a Level 3 monster.[2]
  • Q: My opponent controls an "Evilswarm Ophion" that has Xyz Materials. In this situation, can I Special Summon "Cockadoodledoo" as a Level 3 or 4 monster by its own effect?
A: Even if the Continuous Effect of "Evilswarm Ophion" that prevents Special Summoning Level 5 or higher monsters is being applied, you can Special Summon "Cockadoodledoo" by its own effect.[3]
  • Q: I activated "Worm Bait" during my turn and I cannot Special Summon Level 3 or 4 monsters. In this situation, can I Special Summon "Cockadoodledoo" as a Level 3 or 4 monster by its own effect?
A: If the effect of "Worm Bait" was applied, you cannot Special Summon "Cockadoodledoo" as a Level 3 or 4 monster by its own effect.[4]
A: Even in this case, the effect "If this face-up card would leave the field, banish it instead" is applied, and "Cockadoodledoo" is banished.[5]
