OCG Rulings
- The Token Monster is treated as a Normal Monster.[1]
- Paying Life Points during your Standby Phase is a Maintenance Cost for the "Metal Fiend Token".[1]
- This card's effect makes makes the opponent take the Battle Damage that the controller of "Metal Fiend Token" would have taken during the damage calculation of "Metal Fiend Token"'s battle.[1]
- The damage that the opponent receives by the battle of "Metal Fiend Token" becomes Battle Damage.[1]
- After the opponent receives the Battle Damage, the "Metal Fiend Token" is destroyed by battle.[1]
- If there is no open space in you Monster Card Zone, it is not possible to activate this card.[1]

These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been declared unofficial by Konami.[2] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise. - The payment is a maintenance cost, paid to keep the "Metal Fiend Token" on the field. If you do not pay, it is destroyed. This is not a targeting effect. It will not be protected by "Heart of Clear Water".
