Mention in other Rulings
- Pestilence: If Megamorph and Pestilence are equipped to the same monster, the one that was equipped most recently will be applied. If that card is later removed from the field, the first Equip Spell's effect will be applied.
- Power Supplier: If a monster targeted by "Power Supplier" is affected by "Shrink" or "Megamorph" you recalculate the original ATK of the monster and then reapply the +400 ATK from "Power Supplier. [sic]
OCG Rulings
- When "Megamorph" targets a monster affected by "Black Garden", "Megamorph" will halve/double the monster's Original ATK, not the monster's halved ATK. If "Megamorph"'s effect disappears, the monster's ATK returns to its halved ATK.[1]
- Example: "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" (ATK 3000) is Summoned, and its ATK is halved to 1500. "Megamorph" will make its ATK 1500 or 6000. If "Megamorph"'s effect disappears, "Blue-Eyes White Dragon"'s ATK returns to 1500.
- If "Ally of Justice Catastor" is equipped with "Megamorph" and has its ATK halved to 1100, when the effect of "Ally of Justice Unlimiter" is applied, then "Ally of Justice Catastor" will have 4400 ATK. If "Ally of Justice Catastor" has its ATK doubled to 4400, then the effect of "Ally of Justice Unlimiter" will not change the ATK of "Ally of Justice Catastor".[2]
- If "Ally of Justice Catastor" is affected by "Ally of Justice Unlimiter" and then is equipped with "Megamorph", then "Ally of Justice Catastor" will have 1100 ATK or 4400 ATK, as determined by "Megamorph".[2]
- The Original ATK and DEF of the "Emissary of Darkness Token" Special Summoned by "Gorz the Emissary of Darkness" is "?", so it will be treated as "0" when interacting with "Shrink" and "Megamorph". Both will make the ATK of the "Emissary of Darkness Token" become 0. When the effect of "Shrink" is no longer applied, the "Emissary of Darkness Token" will have 0 ATK. When the effect of "Megamorph" is no longer applied, the ATK of "Emissary of Darkness Token" will return to what it was when "Emissary of Darkness Token" was Summoned.[3]
- If "Emissary from Pandemonium" has its ATK/DEF halved by its effect and then it is affected by "Shrink" or "Megamorph", then "Shrink" and "Megamorph" use 1300 to determine the new ATK. "Shrink" will make its ATK 650, etc. If "Skill Drain" is later activated, then the effect of "Emissary from Pandemonium" will be negated, but it will still have 650 ATK.[4]
- The Original ATK of "Cyber Eltanin" is treated as 0 while it is on the field. Thus, if it is equipped with "Megamorph", then "Cyber Eltanin" will have 0 ATK. When the effect of "Megamorph" is no longer applied, the ATK of "Cyber Eltanin" returns to 500x the number of monsters removed from play to Special Summon "Cyber Eltanin".[5]
- If "The Tyrant Neptune" is equipped with "Megamorph", then "Megamorph" will halve its Original ATK, and afterwards the ATK of "The Tyrant Neptune" will increase by its own effect. Thus, its Original ATK of 0 will be halved to 0, and then its ATK will increase by the total ATK of the Tributed monsters.[6]
- If "Tragoedia" is equipped with "Megamorph", then "Tragoedia"'s Original ATK of 0 is halved to 0, and then its ATK increases by the number of cards in your hand x600.[6]
Q&A Rulings
- Q: A "Relinquished" equipped with "Megamorph" activates its effect, and equips a "Dark Magician" to itself. In that case, what is its ATK/DEF?
- A: In this scenario, when the effect of "Relinquished" is applied, its ATK becomes 2500 and its DEF becomes 2100. After that, even if LP change, there is no change to the ATK/DEF of "Relinquished".[7][8]
- Q: A "Relinquished" equipped with "Dark Magician" by its own effect is face-up in the Monster Zone. If "Megamorph" is activated and equipped to "Relinquished", what is its ATK/DEF?
- A: In this scenario, the effect of "Relinquished" is applying, so its DEF remains at 2100, but its ATK changes depending on each player's LP. If either effect of "Megamorph" is applied, the ATK of "Relinquished" becomes 0, but if LP are the same, its ATK remains 2500.[9][8]
Previously Official Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been declared unofficial by Konami.[13] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise. - "Megamorph" changes the original ATK of the monster it is equipped to. It calculates a new current ATK by half or doubling the equipped monster's original ATK.
- Having multiple "Megamorphs" equipped to a monster is the same as having one.
- "Megamorph" is always recalculating with every change in Life Points. For example, your "Jirai Gumo" is equipped with "Megamorph" and you have 8000 Life Points compared to your 7000. You declare an attack with "Jirai Gumo" and lose the coin toss, losing 4000 Life Points. Now "Jirai Gumo"'s ATK is doubled before Damage Calculation.
- When Life Points are equal the equipped monster's ATK is unchanged.
- You may equip "Megamorph" to your opponent's monster, but ‘your Life Points' refers to the controller of "Megamorph". So if you have more Life Points than your opponent, your opponent's monster equipped with "Megamorph" has its ATK halved.
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Adhesion Trap Hole: If a monster affected by "Adhesion Trap Hole" is then equipped with "Megamorph", only "Megamorph"'s effect applies.
- Amazoness Spellcaster: If you switch ATKs with "Amazoness Spellcaster", and one of the monsters is equipped with "Megamorph", after the switch, you change the ATK of the monster that is equipped with "Megamorph" using the effect of "Megamorph". ...
- Arsenal Bug: If you equip "Megamorph" to "Arsenal Bug" then its ATK will be 4000 or 1000, depending on "Megamorph"'s effect.
- Behemoth the King of All Animals: If you have "Behemoth the King of All Animals" with an original ATK of 2000 because you Summoned or Set him with 1 Tribute, and you equip it with "Megamorph", its original ATK will be 4000 when your Life Points are lower, and 1000 when your Life Points are higher.
- Black Garden: If a monster has its ATK halved by "Black Garden", and afterwards it is equipped with "Megamorph", its ATK will be equal to double its original ATK. If "Megamorph" is later negated or removed from the field, the monster's ATK will return to half its ATK (the same as it was before “Megamorph” was equipped).
- Chaos Necromancer: If "Chaos Necromancer" is equipped with "Megamorph", its ATK is zero, but if "Megamorph" leaves play, recalculate the ATK of "Chaos Necromancer" using his effect.
- Fusilier Dragon, the Dual-Mode Beast: If you have "Fusilier Dragon, the Dual-Mode Beast" with original ATK of 1400 because you Summoned or Set it without Tribute, and you equip it with "Megamorph", its original ATK will be 2800 when your Life Points are lower, and 700 when your Life Points are higher.
- Goblin King: If you equip "Megamorph" to "Goblin King", "Goblin King"'s ATK is 0.
- Gren Maju Da Eiza: If "Gren Maju Da Eiza" is equipped with "Megamorph", its ATK is zero, but if "Megamorph" leaves play, recalculate its ATK using its effect.
- Inferno Fire Blast: If "Red-Eyes B. Dragon" equipped with "Megamorph" is selected for "Inferno Fire Blast", you inflict 2400 damage to the opponent.
- Karate Man: If "Karate Man" is equipped with "Megamorph", and "Megamorph" is halving "Karate Man's" ATK, and you use "Karate Man's" effect, "Karate Man's" ATK is 2000. If you use "Karate Man's" effect, and THEN equip him with "Megamorph" after that, and "Megamorph" would halve his ATK, then his ATK is 500.
- King of the Skull Servants: If you have 2 "Skull Servant" cards in your Graveyard (original ATK 2000), and you equip this card with "Megamorph", its current ATK will become either 4000 or 1000, depending on your Life Points.
- Legendary Fiend: When "Legendary Fiend" is equipped with "Megamorph", first double or halve its original ATK and then reapply the ATK gain.
- Maju Garzett: "Maju Garzett"'s ATK will be 0 if you ... equip it with "Megamorph"....
- Megarock Dragon: The original ATK of "Megarock Dragon" is determined by its effect. This is further doubled/halved by "Megamorph" and other effects that are based off of original ATK. So if you Special Summon "Megarock Dragon" with an original ATK of 2100 points, then equip it with "Megamorph", its ATK will be 4200 or 1050 depending on your Life Points.
- Obnoxious Celtic Guard: "Obnoxious Celtic Guard"'s effect looks at current ATK, not original ATK. So a monster with 1000 original ATK equipped with "Megamorph" to make it 2000 ATK will not destroy "Obnoxious Celtic Guard" as a result of battle.
- Power Bond: If you equip the monster Special Summoned by "Power Bond" with "Megamorph", the ATK gained from "Power Bond" disappears but the damage is still inflicted in the End Phase.
- Sand Moth: After "Sand Moth" is Special Summoned by its own effect, if you equip it with "Megamorph" you will either halve or double its new (2000) original ATK.
- Shrink: The effect of "Shrink" works like "Megamorph", setting a new current ATK based on original ATK. If the same monster is targeted by both "Shrink" and "Megamorph", only the effect of the card that resolved last will be applied.
- Trap Monster: “Embodiment of Apophis”, while a monster, has original ATK 1600 and original DEF 1800 (for purposes of “Megamorph”, etc.).
- Twin-Shield Defender: If "Shrink" or "Megamorph" is activated after "Twin-Shield Defender's" effect resolves, "Twin-Shield Defender's" effect disappears.
- Example 2: If "Sangan's" ATK is halved by "Twin-Shield Defender" to 500 ATK and afterwards it is equipped with "Megamorph", it will have 500 ATK or 2000 ATK (depending on Life Points).
- Twin-Headed Behemoth: When "Twin-Headed Behemoth" is Special Summoned by its own effect and is equipped with "Megamorph" it is the original ATK/DEF that is doubled or halved. (ATK 3000 / DEF 2400 if doubled, ATK 750 / DEF 600 if halved)
- Tyranno Infinity: If “Tyranno Infinity” is equipped with “Megamorph” and the number of removed from play Dinosaurs changes, first change the original ATK of “Tyranno Infinity”, and then double or halve that value to calculate its current ATK for “Megamorph”.
- Unstable Evolution: If the equipped monster is also equipped with "Megamorph", first determine its new original ATK due to "Unstable Evolution" and then halve or double it with "Megamorph".
Judge List Rulings
- "Megamorph" doubles/halves the equipped monster's Original ATK. Any other additions/subtractions to the ATK of other Equip Spell Cards are re-applied after you double (or halve) the monster's Original ATK.[10]
- If you control a Machine-Type monster with its original ATK doubled by "Megamorph" and you activate "Limiter Removal", the original ATK being doubled by "Megamorph" is again doubled by "Limiter Removal". If the "Megamorph" is later removed or if there is a change in Life Points, the ATK value created by "Limiter Removal" remains. But if a monster's ATK has been doubled by "Limiter Removal" and then it is equipped with "Megamorph", then the ATK value created by "Limiter Removal" disappears and only "Megamorph's" effect applies. Additions/Subtractions of other Equip Spell Cards are still re-applied.[11]
- When an effect modifies, doubles, or halves the original ATK of a monster, you must apply this first. After calculating this value (the monster's new current ATK), any gains or losses (increases or decreases) to the monster's ATK are applied to the calculated value.
- Example: If a "Cyber Dragon" equipped with "Axe of Despair" is equipped with "Megamorph", it would have its 2100 original ATK doubled to create a new current ATK of 4200. This value is further increased by 1000 due to "Axe of Despair", for a total of 5200.[12]
