Forum:Deck Contest 16: Original Structure Deck

I got tired of making clever titles. And credit for this idea goes to Alrightio.

OK, so what you need to do is... create your own structure deck! Here are the guidelines:

  • There must be one boss monster in the deck, and it should be the cover card.
  • Like real structure decks, it should have very few doubles of cards. To be specific, you can only use 3 cards in doubles, and cannot run 3 of any card.
  • The extra deck can have up to 5 cards.
  • You must use exactly 40 cards in the main deck.
  • It must support two or more different themes - specify those in the description.
  • Give it a name. Points awarded for coolness.
  • Any existing card can be used - real or otherwise. If you use an anime/manga-only card, you must make sure it is balanced, and tweak it if it is not. (For example, Vision Magician is incredibly broken in its current state - it could be altered to summon only SPELLCASTER monsters with 1000 or less ATK.) You may use up to three anime/manga cards.
  • Follow the March 2010 Banlist.
  • The structure deck should be original, or failing that, the previous structure deck with that theme would have to be outdated.

There will be 8 contestants. Registration is due this Thursday, May 6 (my birthday!), and the decks are due Sunday the 9th. Happy building and dueling! Runer5h 19:54, May 3, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h

Questions

Is it all right to use 2 copys of the Main Monster, like 2 Caius the Shadow Monarch? Ancientgearking 13:06, May 4, 2010 (UTC)

From what I've seen in all Structure Decks, Key Cards are kept to one copy. I'd assume this will hold true for this competition. --Gadjiltron 11:17, May 5, 2010 (UTC)
Basically, that's it. Runer5h 19:26, May 5, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h

How would one know that the manga/anime cards are broken and in need of nerfing?--Hide Head Turtle 07:55, May 8, 2010 (UTC)

Just use your own judgment on that one. Runer5h 14:28, May 8, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h

What do you think of Scrap-Iron Barricade, do you think it needs nerfing?--Hide Head Turtle 15:11, May 8, 2010 (UTC)

I don't really think so... Runer5h 16:41, May 8, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h

too late

damn, apears that im too late to get into this deck competition and its right up my ally too.

oh well...

Elemental Destruction

What do we have here... well, it's more than I thought at the beginning. It not only weakens opponents monster, destroys them or just beats them down. It can also search out pretty good and even has otk potential :)

I grouped the cards and put key words behind the groups so you know what it is for. Basicly the Deck searches out almost everything it needs and then Fusion Summon for great beatsticks. The searchers can even be used as Fusion Material if necassary. So can opponents monsters (super poly). Now for some explanation:

1) Absolute Zero a Beatdown Monster? Yes, together with DNA Transplant (Water) it gets a Bonus of 500 attack for every Monster on the field (excluding himself). Even opponents monsters. So If you have at least 1 other monster there your opponent must fight a 3500 beatstick with his lonely monster...

2) What have De-Fusion, Dimensionhole and Interdimensional Matter Transporter to do with monster Destruction? Remove Absolute Zero from the field with them and watch opponents monsters getting destroyed.

3) Above I said something about otk potential. Here is how to do that. Have already Fusion summoned Absolute Zero, Terra Firma or The Shining. Fusion the other 2 which are missing (easy with poly/super poly/miracle). Tribute Absolute Zero for Terra Firmas effect to get rid of all opponents monsters and a 5k attack beatstick. Now you only need at least 2 rfg heroes to power up the shining to 3200++. As an alternative, have super poly in hand/field. Somehow get Absolute Zero and Terra Firma and another monster on the field. Again Tribute Absolute Zero with Terras effect, attack with both and use super poly to get another fusion with terra and the random monster and attack for game. -dest- 12:58, May 9, 2010 (UTC)

Absolute Power Force!!!

So, it should be Sunday on both ends of the world. Great. Cards in italics are borrowed from the anime.

So, I decided that with the Yusei-centric starters going around, I'd might as well make a well-due Jack Structure. This Deck supports both Dragons and Fiends (though more towards Fiends this time) and has a large Synchro and beatdown focus on it, fitting for the King.

The Deck is mosty DARK to fit in with several DARK supports, mainly through Allure of Darkness and Dark Eruption. The beatdown theme can be further aided with Mystic Plasma Zone and the like, while also allowing several of the weaker DARK monsters to stand a fighting chance.

Now, there are many ways this Deck can pull off Synchros, what with the great amount of Special Summons this Deck can pull off and the number of Tuners present in the Deck. Main combos include 3+4 or 2+5 for Level 7, and 2+6 or 3+5 for Level 8. Powerful Rebirth also gives the possibility of 4+4 combinations. The fact that it has lots of Fiends allows for the Deck to utilize Puppet Master for instant Synchro (inspired off one of Runer's Decks), along with making use of Heavenly King Black Highlander and Archfiend Chaos King, 2 very potent Fiend-only Synchros. Axe Dragonute also makes for a good heavy hitter while turning Strong Wind Dragon into an immense 3400 Trampler at the same time.

Many Spells and Traps here also help the Deck dominate through sheer force, as expected of Jack's play style. Shrink and Prideful Roar almost always ensures a win in a battle. Megamorph ensures a turnabout when short on LP, or furthers your momentum when leading in LP. Wicked Rebirth can also pull back the Key Card without any side effects of wiping out your monsters that didn't battle.

With many ways to dominate the battlefield and play the cards, dueling with this Deck would, indeed, be entertainment for all. Step aside, Yusei, it's now the King's time to shine! --Gadjiltron 14:49, May 9, 2010 (UTC)

Haha, I hoped you like how I tried to make it look kind of official. It just so that I can give it a feel of realism. It is kind of a dream of mine to have a serious Fairy structure deck exist. Some of you might remember my post from Forum:What kind of starter/structure deck would you like to see?. Now, I get to introduce to you all my structure deck idea.

The problem with most Counter Fairy decks is that they are usually too slow or too weak. This structure deck tries to tackle the difficulties that many Counter Fairy decks face on a regular basis.

First off is the way they are played, most counter traps are somewhat specific to a degree. Most people who run this always pray they get the right counter traps at the right time. They also expend their resource rather quickly. You set a lot of them and try to negate as much of you opponent's moves as possible then see that they have a larger card advantage than you do. This deck fixes that by increasing your draw through Morphing Jar and the Parshath monsters. There's also Bountiful Artemis that rewards you with more draws whenever you activate counter traps.

Next comes the problem with ATK strength. For people who play CFs, they know all to well that the usual monsters of the theme have "more than average" but not exceptionally high ATK and most of them just get run down in battle. To make sure that they can at least hold their ground during battle, cards like Luminous Spark, Soul of Purity and Light and Honest are added in. Splendid Venus helps with her ATK reduction as well as her second effect making sure you can always activate your spell or trap cards without interference from your opponent.

Then here's the other part: LP gain. This is actually a part of the beatdown aspect of the deck. It is designed to gain LP and put it to good use. It has Meltiel, Guardian Angel Joan, Supremacy Berry, Cestus of Dagla and some synchro monsters that help gain LP. Then you can channel it into your strategy, using Neo-Parshath, Mars, Saturn and Ancient Sacred Wyvern.

Let me introduce to you the 2 new cards that will be released with this structure deck (hopefully). Counter Force plays almost like Wave-Motion Cannon but seeing as how you will be expected to play counter traps frequently, you can accumulate Charge Counters quickly. This can add pressure to your opponent. Scrap-Iron Barricade is a reusable counter trap. Not only does it ensure the safety of your monster from card effects per turn, it can also help to increase the Charge Counter count.

With the new support and this structure deck, your opponent will be helpless as you control the field and gain LP. In the end, your opponent will have no choice but to submit to the Divine Order.--Hide Head Turtle 14:55, May 9, 2010 (UTC)

ROOOOOOAR! Herd United as Fabled Family!

Hello all, and here is the "starter deck" Herd United as Fabled Family! This deck is sporting a nice touch of beast monster, along with the already-reprinted Solidarity, and I have to say, its solid! While having monsters that sport buffing up Solidarity, Foolish Burial is being reprinted for a nice touch! Also, the cover card... is Candelato, the Beast of Light, nerfed and ready for action! Also, "The Fabled" archetype uses this structure deck to make it's debute to English players!

If you havn't noticed already, 3 new cards are listed! Eucalyptus Mole, Candelato, the Beast of Light(cover card), and Roaring Earth. Now, I had to nerf 2 of them: Roaring Earth and mister cover card himself. Roaring Earth's NEW effect: [When one of your beast type monsters attacks a defense position monster, inflict piercing.] Candelato's is now: [This card cannot be normal summoned or set. This card can not be Special Summoned except by discarding 1 monster card and 1 other card. This card's attack points are equal to 1000x the amount of monsters you discarded. This card gains 500 attack for each monster in your grave. If you draw a monster during your draw phase, skip your next draw phase.] Alot better, ino. As you can see, each card works by either special summoning, giving fuel to Solidarity, or beafing up your monsters. And, it uses "The Fabled" monsters as both a sub-type for the structure deck AND , we're in luck, their beasts that work with dumping into the graveyard! This deck is also including the three Unicorn synchro monsters as commons! WOAH! Finally, busting in with a bunch of Duelist Revolution cards, this deck is up and ready to blow right out the box! Structure Deck - Oceanic Assault

This is my first time making a deck here, so I am not sure how receptive my deck will be, so please be easy on me. Anyway, I chose this theme because I thought it would be interesting to make a deck type that caught my interest, even though I am not fully familiar with how fishes synchronise their strategy together or the serpents work together, so I had a hard time coming up with 40 cards that will fit the deck, but it was an experience.

The deck focuses on doing things the fish can do well, which is control. It contains some taking advantage of the swarming capabilities as well, by beating up the opponent as well as doing Synchro Summoning. It also employs some burn as well.

So, one of the deck's themes take advantage of placing many fishes on the field and take advantage of them. One of the ways to fill the field with some monsters is the use of Water Hazard, and of course, Coelacanth can be used for that purpose. While it may seem that summoning the fishes that is not able to attack or use their effects, this could be utilised. One could use Forgotten Temple of the Deep to make the fish useful again, or (if Royal Swamp Eel is summoned) do a Synchro Summon, acting as a mini Fish Synchro. The three Ice Barrier monsters are suitable for that purpose. They are chosen because of the current lack of Fish, Aqua or Sea Serpent (except Brionac and Gishilnodon), and they are WATER monsters with control-based effects. Cranium Fish can also be instantly get on the field when you get Ocean's Keeper on the field, getting a strong monster with the ability intact, as these are some of the things that can be done. With the swarm, it is little wonder United We Stand is a great addition.

Control is done in the deck by use of Golden Flying Fish, Fish Depth Charge, Spiritual Water Art - Aoi and more. Destruction is the key of the deck, as the objective is to make the field in your favour by monster of Spell/Trap removal. Stardust Dragon might not be able to make things bad for you, because there are Codarus and Abyss Soldier (and of course Brionac) to help override Destruction and make the Dragon useless. Salvage and Pot of Avarice is to ensure that you can continue paying cards to make life hard for the opponent.

You may notice that the deck doesn't contain just fish, but also Sea Serpents. some of them are quite useful, like Deep Sea Diva, which can bring out one of the Level 3 Sea Serpents, whom have decents effects for the deck themselves. The deck also contains WATER support because the majority of monsters are WATER.

The deck possess the use of Umi-related cards, which are A Legendary Ocean and Forgotten Temple of the Deep. Because of that, there are some cards that attempt to take advantage of that. Mermaid Archer is a decent double attacker with them on, and Tornado Wall possess serious protection for you. Because of the neccesity of the field spell, Field Barrier is a must. With a mostly secured Field Spell, the only fish Earthbound Immortal would step on the field with its monstrous abilities to damage the opponent and protect the player at the same time.

This deck employs some form of burn in it, simply because it is one of the easiest and unavoidable way of dealing damage to the opponent. However, the deck only has four cards that burns, but they have the potential to be devastating. Catapult Turtle takes advantage of Coelacanth's swarming ability (or a full field of fish) to potentially finish the opponent even when their LP is not too low at around 4000, Chacu Challhua the EI is of course an every-turn burner, Ceasefire is a powerful card to use if the monster field gets full, and Wave-Motion Cannon gets to put pressure on the opponent every turn.

The only monster (besides those in the Extra Deck) that is not Aqua, Sea Serpent or Fish is Carrierroid, and while this card looks like a break from the deck's theme, the purpose of this card is to protect the spells or traps that stay on the field, because they are essential for the deck's function. So you could say this card fits well into the theme because it is a sentry to the aquatic monsters' turf and weapons.

So this is my first go on a Structure Deck. If you like it, then vote fot it!
