Forum:Fine-tuning my Deck

Long time since I've posted a Deck here, and this time it's to fine-tune a Deck I will be using in real life:

Right then, I have a few questions on the Deck:

  • Should I take out Emergency Provisions? It does provide some Life Points in dire circumstances but by removing it I find that it does not compromise on the Deck's performance. It also drops the Deck count to 40. Emergency Provisions now sits in the Side Deck. Deck count dropped to 40.
  • Should I use Gorz the Emissary of Darkness? When the opponent's not dead and I've exhausted my burning cards, I find myself with a (usually) empty field and vulnerable to direct attacks. Gorz and his token here can help provide a wall to tank incoming attacks.
  • What about Battle Fader? My friends suggest using that is better than Gorz. Battle Fader is now in use.

Thanks in advance. --Gadjiltron 07:00, June 12, 2010 (UTC)

You're running a burn deck without staple burners like Wave-motion Cannon. Try taking out Ookazi ad Poison of the Old Man for 3 Wave-Motion Cannon's, add another Just Desserts, and also try adding three Stealth Birds instead of Mecha Bunny. On the Gorz and Fader topic, both have strong points and either will do well in your deck. Fader does better in Monarch decks allowing for a tribute the turn after while Gorz is more to maintain field presence, though he can be used to tribute too. Gorz will probably supply you with more advantage allowing you to take on your opponents monsters, but remember you have to take the damage and need to have a clear field to summon him. An interesting way to utilize him would be to activate Enchanted Javelin when they attack to gain life points, then take the equivalent damage to summon Gorz, allowing you to save life points but also summon a large beatsticking token. Also, with Des Koala, try running Rescue Cat and Book of Moon/Book of Eclipse. This makes for a lot of crap to backfire on your opponent. What you do is activate rescue cat and summon 2 Koalas. Activate Book of Eclipse to flip them down while giving your opponent an extra two or three cards depending on however many monsters they control. Next turn they draw and if they attack Koala they have extra cards in hand for you to burn for with Koala. It magically flows together as if it were made for each other. Also using Nightmare's Steelcage helps to stall out and use these tactics. I use Arcana Force 0 - The Fool to help stall in my burn deck as well. You're also running too many traps so running into a Royal Decree or Jinzo would kill you, so try to limit what you do with them. I like using Solar Flare Dragon in my burn deck because they can lock down and start burning every turn so try those out in combination with UFO Turtle to help create a lockdown situation. Another unheard of card i like to use which helps in today's meta game is Ominous Fortunetelling which can burn 700 if you call it right and also slowly show you your opponent's hand regardless of whether you call it right. Use it in combination with Dark Room of Nightmare to burn 1000 l.p. per right call along with slowly revealing their hand. adjusting your deck this way should allow for you to take out Emergency Provisions to create a more burn relevant deck. Hope this helped. =] u5h3ra1i' Relished Saber Player 23:08, June 12, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the tips, but are you sure about the kind of Deck you're looking at? This is a Chain Burn deck, after all, and stuff like Wave Motion Cannon looks a little unintuitive for use. --Gadjiltron 00:48, June 13, 2010 (UTC)

Ahh, that makes a whole lot more sense. Had you stated earlier you were trying to aim for a chain burn deck i would've advised appropriately. I was wondering why there was all that random crap (no offense) in there. LoL accumulated fortune makes more sense now too. I'd still advise you to add a majority of the changes above such as the rescue cat/booked Koala combo (because its chain-able) and removing ookazi for something stronger like Tremendous Fire. I suppose that should also allow you to run Emergency Provisions too if necessary. I still recommend at least two wave-motions because regardless of how chain-able the deck should be, you need some power house cards like wave-motion to trust that you could use to finish off you opponent. Even firing off 2k with a single Wave-motion is pretty effective, so keep that in mind. Also why not add Chain Detonation and/or Chain Healing to allow for that balance of burn and healing your looking for? I'd have to also still recommend the Nightmare's Steelcage because no matter how well Lava Golem burns you don't have enough defense in his deck to survive him and the other monsters your opponent will be throwing at you. If worse comes to worse, both Wave-motion and Steelcage will allow you for extra L.P. gain with E. Provisions, provided you keep it in the deck. I'd also have to agree with the guy below me on the Level Limit - Area B and Gravity Bind. Why not try some of these suggestions out? u5h3ra1i' Relished Saber Player 08:06, June 13, 2010 (UTC)

what about level limit and gravity bind? --Ryu s73v0 04:40, June 13, 2010 (UTC)

Adjustments made:

MST here is for taking out the little things that can break this Deck, like Royal Decree which will shut off all Traps, or Skill Drain that will nullify the effectiveness of my walls. I'm seeing how this Deck will function with the burning Bunnies swapped for a little more stall... --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 06:40, June 28, 2010 (UTC)

I played a set of Reckless Greed in my old Chain Burn deck. It was more, umm... reckless, but it worked more often than not. All of the draw Traps usually let me draw into the set all at once, which I could chain together to make a big burn, or top off with an Accumulated Fortune.--Akiza Izayoi (talkcontribs) 06:54, June 28, 2010 (UTC)

Oh, and I usually prefer Tremendous Fire to Ookazi. Riskier, but a 200 damage difference can win games.--Akiza Izayoi (talkcontribs) 07:26, June 28, 2010 (UTC)

I agree with Akiza with the Reckless & Tremendous. :) u5h3ra1i' Relished Saber Player 08:52, June 28, 2010 (UTC)

A few more questions to enquire about, according to some suggestions from my friends:
