Deletion[edit]

The title has been part of three of the four Yugioh series so far, and has been a plot element in at least two series Yugioh Duel Monsters and Yugioh 5Ds. If the title was only mentioned once or twice and never brought up again I could understand why it should not have its own article. Two of the main protagonists have shared the title, perhaps three if the Judai bit is true. There is a history to the title that I think warrants it having its own article. It is also one of the things that connects three of the series. I know it is not the only thing or the most important thing that connects the three series, but it should get an honorable mention. I do not think it is irrelevant enough to delete the entire article.

But the article is talking about several separate things. The dub used "King of Games" to refer to Yugi. And Jack was never the King of Games. He was the King of New Domino City, and that's it. He was not world champion. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 14:34, April 10, 2011 (UTC)
The King of Games is the dub name for King of Duelists/Duel King though it's the same as Joey being Jounouchi's dub name or Tea being Anzu's dub name. I am not sure why it would be considered two different titles. I am certain that Jack was called the King of Duelists/Riding Duelists in a few episodes of 5Ds early episodes in the original Japanese version. I do not think they are three different titles at all.
Or could the article just be renamed Duel King at least? and we drop the King of Games all together?

Renaming it Duel King may be a good idea, as I do thing Yusei was occasionally referred to that early in the Dark Signer arc. As for Jack, he may have been called King of Duelists, but it was not the same as being world champion. He was King of Riding Duels, but it really only applied to New Domino City. "King of Games" is not simply the dub name for "King of Duelists"/"Duel King". Both titles are used in the Japanese manga and probably the English manga too.
"King of Games" is an informal title Yugi has for being good at all kinds of games. People who have some respect for him, call him that, but it's not an official title that one can be awarded and put on their resumé. I think regular Yugi was considered to be the "King of Games" after defeating Yami Yugi in the Ceremonial Battle in the manga (The last chapter is called "King of Games"). That wasn't because the Ceremonial Battle was a title Duel. People were just impressed by Yugi's skill and considered him to be the true King of Games.
"King of Duelists" was originally the title awarded for winning Duelist Kingdom. This article accurately describes that in the first four paragraphs of the history section.
The Japanese anime rightfully calls "King of Duelists", "King of Duelists". I'm not sure if it mentions "King of Games" at all. The English anime refers to the "King of Duelists" as the "King of Games", even though "King of Games" is a separate title. Probably because the original "King of Games" title has little meaning in the anime, where they mostly only play one game.
I don't know much about the titles being mentioned in GX. The first episode and chapter of the anime and manga were called "The Next King of Games" in the English version, but had different Japanese names.
I never got the impression that the "King" title used in 5D's was the "King of Duelists" from the original series. "King of Duelists" was a worldwide title. As Cheesedude said, Jack's seemed to only refer to New Domino City. As far as I remember, he only called himself "King", not "King of Duelists"/"Duel King" and similarly nobody referred to Yugi as simply "King". -- Deltaneos (talk) 14:37, April 11, 2011 (UTC)
No, the titles really weren't used in GX anime all that much. They were used a bit in the dub. In both versions, Jaden idolizes Yugi, but he never explicitly says "I want to be the King of Games/Duelists" in the original. However, in the manga, both Jaden and Chazz say they aspire to be "Duel King" in chapter 2. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 17:40, April 11, 2011 (UTC)
I think Judai stated that he want to become the Duel King in episodes 2 and 28 of Japanese version. --109.93.205.27 (talk) 17:50, April 11, 2011 (UTC)
You're definitely right about episode 28. I wrote the summary for that episode, and that even appears in the summary I wrote. Despite this, I didn't remember it. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 18:13, April 11, 2011 (UTC)
I've no problem with an article for "King of Duelists". The other two might be a bit vague, but as long as they don't all get mixed-up. -- Deltaneos (talk) 14:51, April 11, 2011 (UTC)

How about simply calling it Duel King and creating a seperate King of Games title? Have the first paragraph or so about the original world title that belongs to Yugi and have a sub category that mentions other degrees of it such as Neo Domino Duel King or World Riding Duel King Jack wants to be? Jack and Yusei's title may not be the exact same as Yugi's but it is still a Duel King title, unless people feel that title needs an entire article itself. There should at least be mentions that the English dub uses King of Games interchangeable with the King of Duelists, rather in the new King of Duelists or Duel King page or in a King of Games title (the manga). I think the problem is that the manga, anime, and English dub all refer to titles as differently and thus leads to confusion. As someone who has not read the manga I've seen the second anime (sub and dub) and there is only mention of Duel King and since the dub uses King of Games in place of Duel King that there are a good number of people who thought like I did that the titles were the same thing. There being some mention of that at least acknowledges that there is confusion created by the different versions. The King of Games article refers to the manga version and perhaps have a little mention that the Enlgish version refers to it as Duel King? Most articles on here have mention of difference between the manga, Japanese version, and Enligsh version.

Request Lock[edit]

  • Requesting lock of this page due to edit warring and potentially false information being added.--YamiWheeler (talkcontribs) 16:00, August 13, 2012 (UTC)
  • Agreed, neither Judai and Yuma obtained "King of Games" so far. The only closest Judai did was last two episodes in GX but didn't show the result, but whatever. I also added little part in there; "Former" King of Games, such as Pegasus and Jack being "King of Games" before Yugi and Yusei took it from them. --iFredCat 16:02, August 13, 2012 (UTC)
  • I don't think it should be locked. Most of the false info etc. were added today so most likely it'll stop soon. Adding a short note or something like that would be enough. Dunkles Magiermädchen (talkcontribs) 16:10, August 13, 2012 (UTC)
  • Yuma defeated Tron and won the World Duel Carnival it may not be the king of games but the status he acquires is similar yugi or yusei's title of king.Wynia (talkcontribs) 16:18, August 13, 2012 (UTC)

This doesn't need to be locked. Per above, it needs to be split into several different articles to cover everything. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 17:02, August 13, 2012 (UTC)
