Tenzen Yanagi and Bolt Tanner's Duel is the fifth Duel of the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime, conducted between Tenzen Yanagi and Bolt Tanner.
Prior events[edit]
After Sector Security arrested Yusei following his Duel with Jack, he was sent to The Facility and marked. On his way to the cells, he met Yanagi, who had witnessed the massive dragon appear during his Turbo Duel with Jack. Upon arrived at the Facility, Yusei and Yanagi were accosted by Tanner and the other prisoners, who informed them that they had to Duel to gain respect around the Facility. As Yusei's Deck had been confiscated when he was arrested, Yanagi, accustomed to smuggling his cards into Facilities, offered to Duel Tanner instead.
The Duel[edit]
Turn 1: Yanagi
Yanagi Normal Summons "Crystal Skull" (0/0) in Defense Position. As "Crystal Skull" was Summoned, its effect activates, inflicting 1000 damage to the player who Summoned it (Yanagi: 4000 → 3000 LP).
Turn 2: Tanner
Tanner draws and subsequently activates the Spell "Cost Down", discarding a card, then for the rest of this turn, the Levels of all monsters in Tanner's hand are reduced by 2, even after they are Summoned. He discards "Jirai Gumo", then decreases the Levels of all monsters in his hand by 2 ("Ushi Oni": Level 6 → 4). Tanner Normal Summons the now Level 4 "Ushi Oni" (2150/1950). "Ushi Oni" attacks and destroys "Crystal Skull".
Turn 3: Yanagi
Yanagi draws and subsequently Normal Summons "Ashoka Pillar" (0/2200) in Defense Position. Yanagi activates the Equip Spell "Spirit Mask", equipping it to "Ashoka Pillar".
Turn 4: Tanner
Tanner draws "Giant Ushi Oni". Tanner Tributes "Ushi Oni" to Special Summon "Giant Ushi Oni" (2600/2100) from his hand by its own effect. "Giant Ushi Oni" attacks and destroys "Ashoka Pillar". As "Ashoka Pillar" was destroyed, its effect activates, inflicting 2000 damage to its controller (Yanagi: 3000 → 1000 LP). As "Spirit Mask" was sent to the Graveyard, its effect activates, making Yanagi send a card from his hand to the Graveyard. He sends "Triangle O". As "Giant Ushi Oni" destroyed Yanagi's monster by battle, its effect activates, allowing it to attack again in a row. "Giant Ushi Oni" attacks directly (Yanagi: 1000 → 0 LP).
Aftermath[edit]
Displeased by Yanagi's poor Dueling, Tanner began stamping on his cards. Yusei swiftly kicked Tanner's leg out from under him, warning him that no card was worthless and that it was disrespectful to treat cards in that manner. He asked to borrow Yanagi's Deck to Duel Tanner and prove his point.
