Yusei Fudo and Z-one's Duel was the penultimate Duel of the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime between Yusei Fudo and Z-one above the Divine Temple, played to prevent Z-one from destroying New Domino City.

Featured Duel: Yusei Fudo vs. Z-one[edit]

At the start of the Duel, the Field Spell Card "Speed World 2" is activated, as per the rules of a Turbo Duel.

Turn 1: Z-one
As he controls no monsters, Z-one Special Summons "Time Maiden" (0/0) from his hand in Attack Position. "Time Maiden" can be treated as 2 Tributes for the Tribute Summon of a Fairy-Type monster. Z-one Tributes "Time Maiden" to Tribute Summon "Metaion, the Timelord" (0/0). Z-one Sets a card.

Turn 2: Yusei Fudo
(Yusei SPC: 0 → 1) (Z-one SPC: 0 → 1)
Since his opponent controls a monster while he does not, Yusei Special Summons "Double Delta Warrior" (0/2100) from his hand in Attack Position. He then discards "Quillbolt Hedgehog" and "Clear Effector" to Special Summon "Big Eater" (800/0) from his hand in Attack Position. As he controls a Tuner monster, Yusei Special Summons "Quillbolt Hedgehog" (800/800) from his Graveyard in Attack Position. Yusei Normal Summons "Debris Dragon" (1000/2000) in Attack Position, then activates its effect to Special Summon "Clear Effector" (0/900) from his Graveyard in Attack Position.

Yusei tunes "Double Delta Warrior" to "Big Eater" to Synchro Summon "Black-Winged Dragon" (2800/1600) in Attack Position. He then tunes "Clear Effector" and "Quillbolt Hedgehog" to "Debris Dragon" to Synchro Summon "Red Dragon Archfiend" (3000/2000) in Attack Position. Since "Clear Effector" was used as a Synchro Material, Yusei Draw a cards 1 card. Since "Double Delta Warrior" was used as a Synchro Material, Yusei cannot declare an attack this turn. Yusei Sets two cards.

During the End Phase, the effect of "Red Dragon Archfiend" activates, destroying all monsters Yusei controls that did not declare an attack this turn. However, "Clear Effector" allows Yusei to negate the effects of any Synchro Monster that used it as Synchro Material.

Turn 3: Z-one
(Yusei SPC: 1 → 2) (Z-one SPC: 1 → 2)
During his Standby Phase, "Metaion, the Timelord" returns to Z-one's Deck. Z-one activates his Set "Nonexistence". With its effect, he Normal Summons "Lazion, the Timelord" (0/0) without Tributing. He attacks "Red Dragon Archfiend" with "Lazion, the Timelord", but Yusei counters with his Set "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow", negating the attack, then Setting "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow" again. Z-one Sets a card.

Turn 4: Yusei
(Yusei SPC: 2 → 3) (Z-one SPC: 2 → 3)
Since Yusei drew a card during his Draw Phase, Z-one uses the effect of "Lazion, the Timelord" to inflict 1000 damage to him (Yusei LP: 4000 → 3000). Since he has at least 2 Speed Counters, Yusei activates "Speed Spell - Angel Baton", drawing 2 cards and sending 1 card from his hand to the Graveyard. Since it was sent to the Graveyard by a card effect, Yusei Special Summons "Regen Warrior" (0/0) in Defense Position. He then Normal Summons "Junk Synchron" (1300/500) in Attack Position. Yusei tunes "Regen Warrior" to "Junk Synchron" to Synchro Summon "Black Rose Dragon (2400/2000) in Attack Position. Yusei activates the effect of "Black Rose Dragon", destroying all cards on the field, but immediately counters it with his Set "Synchro Barrier Force", negating the effect and inflicting 500 damage to Z-one for each Synchro Monster on the field (Z-one LP: 4000 → 2500).

Turn 5: Z-one
(Yusei SPC: 3 → 4) (Z-one SPC: 3 → 4)
During his Standby Phase, "Lazion, the Timelord" returns to Z-one's Deck. Z-one sends "Nonexistence" to the Graveyard to activate his Set "Endless Emptiness". He activates the effect of "Endless Emptiness" to Special Summon "Zaphion, the Timelord" (0/0), "Sadion, the Timelord" (0/0) and "Kamion, the Timelord" (0/0) from his hand, all in Attack Position.

Z-one attacks "Black-Winged Dragon" with "Zaphion, the Timelord", but Yusei activates "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow", negating the attack and Setting "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow" again. Z-one attacks "Black Rose Dragon" with "Sadion, the Timelord". "Timelord" monsters negate their own destruction (by battle or by card effect), and Z-one takes no battle damage from battles involving any of them. Since it battled, the effect of "Sadion" activates, returning Z-one's LP to 4000 (Z-one LP: 2500 → 4000). Z-one attacks "Red Dragon Archfiend" with "Kamion, the Timelord". Since it battled, the effect of "Kamion" activates, returning all of Yusei's monsters to his Deck and inflicting 500 damage to him for each monster (Yusei LP: 3000 → 1500).

Turn 6: Yusei
(Yusei SPC: 4 → 5) (Z-one SPC: 4 → 5)
Yusei Sets a card.

Turn 7: Z-one
(Yusei SPC: 5 → 6) (Z-one SPC: 5 → 6)
During his Standby Phase, "Lazion", "Kamion", and "Zaphion, the Timelord" return to Z-one's Deck. Since it left the field, the effect of "Zaphion" activates, allowing Z-one to draw until he has 5 cards in his hand. Yusei activates his Set "Talisman of Reversal". Since Z-one drew a card(s) outside of his Draw Phase, Yusei draws cards equal to the number of cards in Z-one's hand (5). Since it was added to his hand by a card effect, Yusei Special Summons "Scouting Warrior" (1000/1000) from his hand in Attack Position. Since a monster was Special Summoned, he also Special Summons "Steam Synchron" (600/800) from his hand. During Z-one's Main Phase, Yusei activates the effect of "Steam Synchron", allowing him to Synchro Summon during Z-one's turn. He tunes "Scouting Warrior" to "Steam Synchron" to Synchro Summon Ancient Fairy Dragon (2100/3000) in Defense Position.

Since Yusei Special Summoned a Synchro Monster, Z-one activates "Empress's Crown" from his hand by its own effect, drawing 2 cards. Z-one uses the effect of "Endless Emptiness" to Special Summon "Michion, the Timelord" (0/0), "Hailon, the Timelord" (0/0), "Raphion, the Timelord" (0/0), "Gabrion, the Timelord" (0/0), and "Sandaion, the Timelord" (4000/0) from his hand, all in Attack Position. The effect of "Endless Emptiness" reduces the ATK of "Sandaion" to 0 ("Sandaion": 4000 → 0/0).

Z-one attacks "Ancient Fairy Dragon" with "Michion, the Timelord". Yusei considers activating "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow", but holds off. Since it battled, the effect of "Michion" activates, halving Yusei's LP (Yusei LP: 1500 → 750). Z-one attacks "Ancient Fairy Dragon" with "Hailon, the Timelord", but Yusei activates "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow", negating the attack and Setting "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow" again. Z-one attacks "Ancient Fairy Dragon" with "Raphion, the Timelord", but Yusei activates the effect of "Synchron Believer" in his hand, negating the attack and Special Summoning it (100/100) in Defense Position. Z-one attacks "Ancient Fairy Dragon" with "Gabrion, the Timelord". Since it battled, the effect of "Gabrion" activates, returning "Ancient Fairy Dragon", "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow" and "Synchron Believer" to Yusei's Deck. Zone attacks Yusei directly with "Sandaion, the Timelord". Since it battled, the effect of "Sandaion" activates, inflicting 4000 damage to Yusei, but Yusei activates the effect of "Synchron Keeper" in his hand, by banishing it from his hand and "Big Eater" from his Graveyard. He negates the effect of "Sandaion", then Special Summons "Power Tool Dragon" (2300/2500) from his Extra Deck in Attack Position with its effects negated. Z-one Sets a card.

Turn 8: Yusei
(Yusei SPC: 6 → 7) (Z-one SPC: 6 → 7)
Z-one sends "Endless Emptiness" to the Graveyard to activate his Set "Infinite Light". Z-one can now negate the effect of his "Timelord" monsters that returns them to his Deck during his Standby Phase. Since "Endless Emptiness" is no longer on the field, the ATK of "Sandaion" returns to 4000 ("Sandaion": 0 → 4000/0). Yusei Normal Summons "Turbo Synchron" (100/500) in Attack Position. He tunes "Power Tool Dragon" to "Turbo Synchron" to Synchro Summon "Life Stream Dragon" (2900/2400) in Attack Position. When Summoned, the effect of "Life Stream Dragon" increases Yusei's LP to 2000 (Yusei LP: 750 → 2000). Since he has at least 7 Speed Counters, Yusei activates "Speed Spell - Synchro Panic" to Special Summon "Ancient Fairy Dragon", "Black Rose Dragon", "Black-Winged Dragon", and "Red Dragon Archfiend", all monsters that have previously been Synchro Summoned, from his Extra Deck in Attack Position, with their effects negates and ATK reduced to 0. He then activates the effect of "Life Stream Dragon" to reduce the Levels of all other Synchro Monsters he controls to 1. Yusei tunes "Ancient Fairy Dragon", "Black Rose Dragon", "Black-Winged Dragon", and "Red Dragon Archfiend" to "Life Stream Dragon" to Limit Over Accel Synchro Summon "Shooting Quasar Dragon" (4000/4000) in Attack Position.

"Shooting Quasar Dragon" can attack a number of times equal to the number of its Synchro Materials (5). Z-one reminds Yusei that all of his monsters can negate their own destruction. Yusei informs Z-one that "Shooting Quasar Dragon" can ignore that particular effect, and destroy his "Timelord" monsters anyway. Yusei attacks and destroys "Michion", "Hailon", "Raphion", and "Gabrion, the Timelord" with "Shooting Quasar Dragon". Yusei then attacks "Sandaion, the Timelord" with "Shooting Quasar Dragon", with both monsters destroying each other. When destroyed, the final effect of "Shooting Quasar Dragon" activates, allowing Yusei to Special Summon "Shooting Star Dragon" (3300/2500) from his Extra Deck in Attack Position. Yusei attacks Z-one directly with "Shooting Star Dragon" (Z-one LP: 4000 → 700). Yusei activates the effect of Speed World 2, removing 7 Speed Counters (Yusei's SPC: 7 → 0) to draw a card. Yusei Sets a card.

Turn 9: Z-one
(Yusei SPC: 0 → 1) (Z-one SPC: 7 → 8)
Z-one activates the final effect of "Infinite Light". Since he has Summoned 10 "Timelord" monsters with different names during this Duel, he sends "Infinite Light" to the Graveyard to Special Summon "Sephylon, the Ultimate Timelord (4000/4000) in Attack Position. When "Sephylon, the Ultimate Timelord" is Special Summoned, he can Special Summon as many "Timelord" monsters as possible from his hand, Deck, and/or Graveyard with their effects negated and their ATK increased to 4000. Z-one Special Summons "Metaion", "Sadion", "Gabrion" and "Sandaion, the Timelord". "Sephylon, the Ultimate Timelord" also gains ATK equal to the total ATK of all other "Timelord" monsters on the field ("Sephylon": 4000 → 20000/4000). Z-one attacks and destroys "Shooting Star Dragon" with "Sephylon, the Ultimate Timelord".

However, Yusei activates his Set "Converging Wishes". First, the battle damage from Z-one's attack is reduced to 0. Next, he banishes "Power Tool Dragon" and "Turbo Synchron" from his Graveyard to Synchro Summon "Stardust Dragon" (2500/2000) in Attack Position. Then, the ATK of "Stardust Dragon" is increased by the total ATK of all Dragon-Type Synchro Monsters in his Graveyard ("Stardust Dragon": 2500 → 23000/2000). Finally, Yusei activates the last effect of "Converging Wishes". By returning 1 Dragon-Type Synchro Monster in his Graveyard to his Extra Deck, he can force Z-one's monsters to attack "Stardust Dragon".

Yusei returns "Ancient Fairy Dragon" to his Extra Deck ("Stardust Dragon": 23000 → 20900/2000) to force "Sephylon, the Ultimate Timelord" to attack "Stardust Dragon"; however, Z-one activates the effect of "Sephylon", banishing another "Timelord" monster he controls to prevent his monster's destruction and reduce the damage from the battle to 0. Z-one banishes "Metaion" ("Sephylon": 20000 → 16000/4000) to activate the effect of "Sephylon". Yusei returns "Life Stream Dragon" to his Extra Deck ("Stardust Dragon": 20900 → 18000/2000) to force "Sephylon" to attack again. Z-one banishes "Sadion" ("Sephylon": 16000 → 12000/4000) to activate the effect of "Sephylon". Yusei returns "Life Stream Dragon" to his Extra Deck ("Stardust Dragon": 18000 → 15600/2000) to force "Sephylon" to attack again. Z-one banishes "Gabrion" ("Sephylon": 12000 → 8000/4000) to activate the effect of "Sephylon". Yusei returns "Black-Winged Dragon" to his Extra Deck ("Stardust Dragon": 15600 → 12800/2000) to force "Sephylon" to attack again. Z-one banishes "Sandaion" ("Sephylon": 8000 → 4000/4000) to activate the effect of "Sephylon". Finally, Yusei returns "Red Dragon Archfiend" to his Extra Deck ("Stardust Dragon": 12800 → 9800/2000) to force "Sephylon, the Ultimate Timelord" to attack "Stardust Dragon" again. With no other "Timelord" monsters to banish, Z-one cannot activate his monster's effect. "Sephylon, the Ultimate Timelord" is destroyed by "Stardust Dragon" (Z-one LP: 700 → 0).
