Forum:Nerf the broken cards?

Hey forum what do you guys think about making slightly worse versions of the really powerful cards? Like a Sinister Serpent that gets removed from play when destroyed by battle and can only special summoned from the graveyard? Or a Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning with only 1000 ATK and a slightly worse effect? There are a lot of other examples that we could talk about, like all the Jar monsters could get weaker versions. I feel like most cards are designed with a certain purpose in mind, so why not restrict some of the ways those effects can be abused?148.100.204.130 (talk) 19:29, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

Ok Harpie's Feather Duster should work like for each spell and trap cards destroyed by this effect, you lose 1000 for each one? That could work. Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 22:53, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

Raigeki required you to discard 2 cards from your hand to destroy 1 monster on opponent's side of the field. Change of Heart can only be activate if there are two different Attributes on the field (1 on your and 1 on your opponent's, restrict to two per side of the field). Delinquent Duo would only pay twice the price of what it original said, plus you have to discard two cards from your own hand. --FredCat T.P.F.R.J.R.W.S. 22:58, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

Hm...... wow you are better at this than me. Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 23:00, September 14, 2010 (UTC)

Er, I just pulled them out of my ass, like Crow did with his cards. --FredCat T.P.F.R.J.R.W.S. 23:04, September 14, 2010 (UTC)
A weaker version of Black Luster Soldier? Hmm... how about this: instead of having 1000 less ATK, it only has 700 less. And it doesn't have the double attacking effect. Hmm... maybe it could only use its removal effect on face-up monsters, and if it does, it can't attack that turn? Oh, and let's make it a DARK Spellcaster too.
Yeah, that does sound like a good idea. Too bad Konami probably won't release something like that. Runer5h (talkcontribs) 23:15, September 14, 2010 (UTC)Runer5h
Continuing with you idea, they could also make a BLSEoB with 700 less ATK, 500 less DEF, not give it the removing effect, and lets make it a girl too, aren't Fairy types a little girly right, oh and lets make her harder to bring out, instead of that removing thing it had...BassNettoHikari2...Chat Page... 00:11, September 15, 2010 (UTC)

Substitoad should make the players pay 1000 to use his effect. Too much? Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 00:51, September 15, 2010 (UTC)

So you don't want that frog to be psychic instead? --FredCat T.P.F.R.J.R.W.S. 00:56, September 15, 2010 (UTC)

Nope. Substitoad can be an exception. Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 01:07, September 15, 2010 (UTC)

Well, lucky ya, he's just priceless "Mind Master". --FredCat T.P.F.R.J.R.W.S. 01:08, September 15, 2010 (UTC)
  • Brionac: ONCER PER TURN you can discard up to 2 cards to return the same number of cards from the field to the hand.
  • DSF: ONCE PER TURN you can tribute 1 monster to inflict damage to your opponent equal to its level x 200. This card cannot attack your opponent directly.
  • Yata-Garasu: When this card inflicts 3000 or more damage from a direct attack, skip your opponent's next draw phase.
  • Witch of the Black Forest: When this card is sent from the field to the graveyard, remove 1 monster with 1500 or less defense in your Deck from play. Add it to your hand 3 turns after this card's activation
  • Graceful Charity: Discard 2 random cards from your hand. Draw 3 cards.

Yeah.

  • Substitoad: Slap a "once per turn" onto his searching effect. Should prevent the FTK while still making him useful.
  • Temple of the Kings: Both players can activate Trap cards on the turn they are Set. Well, at least it's a little more balanced out with the opponent being able to use this advantage...
  • Sixth Sense: If the result is the number declared, draw cards equal to half the die roll result, rounded up. If the result is not the number declared, remove cards from the top of your Deck from play equal to the die roll result.
  • Premature Burial: If this card leaves the field, destroy the monster Special Summoned by this card's effect.

--Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 07:25, September 15, 2010 (UTC)

Premature Burial should be changed to Continous Spell so it can't be abused by Hidden Armory. Oh.. and that "Destroy the monster when this card leaves the field" thing also works. Neos lover (talkcontribs) 07:44, September 15, 2010 (UTC)

This = Spell Version of Call of the Haunted --FredCat T.P.F.R.J.R.W.S. 10:24, September 15, 2010 (UTC)

Maybe you discard for each turn it is on the field? Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 13:05, September 15, 2010 (UTC)

Since, you know, it's a Harpie card, maybe you have to discard 1 Harpie monster to activate Harpie's Feather Duster. Makes sense to me. NoCards (talkcontribs) 21:09, September 15, 2010 (UTC)

What about Metamorphosis negating the effect of the monster it summons. TwosidedDragon~ 21:21, September 15, 2010 (UTC)

Or a butterfly dagger elma that only returns to your hand only if destroyed by an opponents card effect or if the equipped monster is removed from the field outside of battle? And it increases the attack of the monster by 800 or so? TwosidedDragon~ 21:32, September 15, 2010 (UTC)

If they nerf the cards, they would probably change it's name and picture. Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 23:32, September 15, 2010 (UTC)

Too diffucult with current rulling nature

141.210.244.138 (talk) 07:41, September 21, 2010 (UTC)To actually outright add a new effect or to fully restructure a effect I don't think makes much sense in the game. However a alternative may work better. To release a new card with the effect that you wish. For instance. alot of people think Monster Reborn is broken. And some argue that a way to make it more balanced would be to only allow it to take monsters from your graveyard or something like that. Well simply create a new card with that intented effect. That I believe would work better then trying to pigeon hole pre-existing card effects.

Creating new cards that are nerfed versions of older ones is what Konami's doing right now. Compare and contrast. Compare and contrast. Compare and contrast. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 07:48, September 21, 2010 (UTC)

See this is what I'm talking about. Fallensilence (talkcontribs) 13:10, September 21, 2010 (UTC)
