Playmaker and Bohman's first Master Duel

Playmaker and Bohman's first Master Duel is the twenty-fifth Duel of the Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS anime, and is the second time Playmaker and Bohman have Dueled.

Prior events[edit]

While on the hunt for Bohman to retrieve Jin Kolter's consciousness, Playmaker encountered him and Harlan in the Restricted Area of LINK VRAINS. Bohman challenged Playmaker to a Duel, where he revealed himself to be the "real" Playmaker, and Playmaker to be the fake.

The Duel[edit]

Turn 1: Bohman
As there are no monsters in the Main Monster Zones, Bohman Special Summons "Hydradrive Booster" (0/0) from his hand by its own effect. Bohman uses "Hydradrive Booster" to Link Summon "Burn Hydradrive" (1000/↓) to the Extra Monster Zone. Bohman Normal Summons "Hydradrive Booster" (0/0), and uses it to Link Summon "Coolant Hydradrive" (1000/↓) to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Burn Hydradrive" points to. Bohman activates the Link Spell Card "Judgment Arrows" (↖↑↗) at the Spell & Trap Zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Coolant Hydradrive" points to. Bohman uses "Burn Hydradrive" and "Coolant Hydradrive" to Link Summon "Twin Hydradrive Knight" (1800/←→) to a zone "Judgment Arrows" points to. As "Twin Hydradrive Knight" was Link Summoned, Bohman activates its effect, targeting up to two "Hydradrive" Link Monsters that were used as materials for its Link Summon, and changing its Attribute to the same as those monsters'. He targets the FIRE "Burn Hydradrive" and the WATER "Coolant Hydradrive". Bohman Sets two cards.

Turn 2: Playmaker
Playmaker Normal Summons "Flame Bufferlo" (1400/200). Playmaker activates the effect of "Catche Eve L2" in his hand, reducing the Level of a Level 3 or higher monster he controls by 2, then Special Summoning "Catche Eve L2" (800/600) from his hand. He reduces the Level of "Flame Bufferlo" to Special Summon "Catche Eve L2" in Attack Position ("Flame Bufferlo": Level 3 → 1). Playmaker uses the now Level 1 "Flame Bufferlo" to Link Summon "Linkuriboh" (300/↓) to the Extra Monster Zone. As the face-up "Flame Bufferlo" left the field, Playmaker activates its effect, discarding a Cyberse monster to draw two cards. He discards "Clock Wyvern" to draw two cards. As Playmaker controls two or more monsters with the same Type, he Special Summons "Cyberse White Hat" (1800/2400) from his hand by its own effect. Playmaker uses "Cyberse White Hat" and "Catche Eve L2" to Link Summon "Update Jammer" (2000/←↑) to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Linkuriboh" points to. As "Cyberse White Hat" was sent to the GY as Link Material, Playmaker activates its effect, reducing the ATK of all monsters Bohman currently controls by 1000 until the end of this turn ("Twin Hydradrive Knight": 1800 → 800 ATK).

"Update Jammer" attacks "Twin Hydradrive Knight". During damage calculation, as a Link Monster it points to battled, the effect of "Judgment Arrows" doubles its current ATK ("Twin Hydradrive Knight": 800 → 1600 ATK). As a Cyberse monster battled, Playmaker activates its effect, negating all other card effects on the field until the end of the Damage Step, also damage calculation for that battle uses each monster's original ATK and DEF, then if Playmaker's monster destroyed Bohman's monster by that battle and sends it to the GY, the effect of "Update Jammer" will inflict 1000 damage to Bohman ("Twin Hydradrive Knight": 1600 → 1800 ATK). The attack continues and "Twin Hydradrive Knight" is destroyed (Bohman: 4000 → 3800 → 2800 LP). "Linkuriboh" attacks Bohman directly (Bohman: 2800 → 2500 LP). Playmaker Sets two cards.

Turn 3: Bohman
Bohman activates his face-down Continuous Trap Card "Property Spray", but as Bohman activated a Trap Card while Playmaker controls a Link Monster, Playmaker activates his face-down Counter Trap Card "Arrow Break", negating the activation and destroying that card. The activation of "Property Spray" is negated, and it is destroyed. As Bohman's Spell/Trap Card was destroyed, Bohman activates his face-down Continuous Trap Card "Hydradrive Cycle", returning a "Hydradrive" Link Monster from his GY to his Extra Deck, then drawing cards equal to that monster's Link Rating and Special Summoning a "Hydradrive" monster from his GY, but its ATK is reduced to 0. He returns the Link-2 "Twin Hydradrive Knight", draws two cards, and Special Summons "Burn Hydradrive" (1000 → 0/↓). During the Main Phase 1, Bohman activates the effect of "Hydradrive Cycle" paying 400 LP and declaring an Attribute between EARTH, WATER, FIRE, or WIND to Special Summon a "Hydradrive Token" to the turn player's field in Defense Position with the declared Attribute (Bohman: 2500 → 2100 LP). He Special Summons an EARTH "Hydradrive Token" (0/0) to his field. Bohman uses the "Hydradrive Token" to Link Summon "Flow Hydradrive" (1000/↓) to a zone "Judgment Arrows" points to. Bohman uses "Burn Hydradrive" and "Flow Hydradrive" to Link Summon "Twin Hydradrive Knight" (1800/←→) to a zone "Judgment Arrows" points to. As "Twin Hydradrive Knight" was Link Summoned, Bohman activates its effect, targeting the FIRE "Burn Hydradrive" and the WIND "Flow Hydradrive" and changing its Attribute to the same as those monsters'. The effect of "Twin Hydradrive Knight" negates the effects of monsters with the same Attribute as it. The effect of the WIND "Update Jammer".

"Twin Hydradrive Knight" attacks "Update Jammer". As Bohman's monster attacked, Playmaker activates the effect of "Linkuriboh", Tributing it to change Bohman's monster's ATK to 0. "Linkuriboh" is Tributed, but as Playmaker activated a card or effect that Tributes a monster while Bohman controls a "Hydradrive" monster, Bohman activates the effect of "Break Hydradrive" in his hand, sending it to the GY to negate the activation and inflict 800 damage to Playmaker. The activation of the effect of "Linkuriboh" is negated (Playmaker: 4000 → 3200 LP). During damage calculation, as a Link Monster it points to battled, the effect of "Judgment Arrows" doubles its current ATK ("Twin Hydradrive Knight": 1800 → 3600 ATK). The attack continues and "Update Jammer" is destroyed (Playmaker: 3200 → 1600 LP). Bohman Sets a card.

Turn 4: Playmaker
Playmaker Normal Summons "Widget Kid" (1500/900). As "Widget Kid" was Normal or Special Summoned, Playmaker activates its effect, Special Summoning a Cyberse monster from his hand in Defense Position. He Special Summons "RAM Clouder" (1800/1000). Playmaker activates the effect of "RAM Clouder", Tributing a monster to Special Summon a Cyberse monster from his GY. He Tributes "Widget Kid" to Special Summon "Update Jammer" (2000/←↑). Playmaker uses "RAM Clouder" and the Link-2 "Update Jammer" to Link Summon "Detonate Deleter" (2100/←↙→) to the Extra Monster Zone. As "Update Jammer" was sent to the GY as Link Material, Playmaker activates its effect, allowing the Link Monster that was Link Summoned using it as Link Material to make a second attack during each Battle Phase this turn.

"Detonate Deleter" attacks "Twin Hydradrive Knight". At the start of the Damage Step, as "Detonate Deleter" is attacking Bohman's monster, Playmaker activates its effect, destroying that monster. "Twin Hydradrive Knight" is destroyed. "Detonate Deleter" attacks Bohman directly. Bohman activates his face-down Quick-Play Spell Card "Half Shut", preventing a monster from being destroyed by battle this turn, but its ATK is halved until the end of the turn. He targets "Detonate Deleter" ("Detonate Deleter": 2100 → 1050 LP). The attack continues (Bohman: 2100 → 1050 LP).

Turn 5: Bohman
As there are no monsters in the Main Monster Zones, Bohman Special Summons "Hydradrive Booster" (0/0) from his hand by its own effect. As a "Hydradrive" monster was Special Summoned while "Break Hydradrive" is in the GY, Bohman activates the effect of "Break Hydradrive", Special Summoning it, but it is banished when it leaves the field. During the Main Phase 1, Bohman activates the effect of "Hydradrive Cycle", paying 400 LP and declaring an unknown Attribute to Special Summon a "Hydradrive Token" (0/0) to his field with that Attribute. As his LP is 1000 or lower, Bohman activates his Skill "Storm Access", randomly accessing a card within a Data Storm. Bohman obtains "Trident Hydradrive Lord" and adds it to his Extra Deck. Bohman uses "Break Hydradrive", "Hydradrive Booster" and the "Hydradrive Token" to Link Summon "Burn Hydradrive" (1000/↓), "Flow Hydradrive" (1000/↓), and "Coolant Hydradrive" (1000/↓) to the zones the top-left, top-center, and top-right Link Arrows of "Judgment Arrows" point to.

Bohman uses "Burn Hydradrive", "Flow Hydradrive" and "Coolant Hydradrive" to Link Summon "Trident Hydradrive Lord" (2300/←↓→) to a zone "Judgment Arrows" points to. As "Twin Hydradrive Knight" was Link Summoned, Bohman activates its effect, targeting up to three "Hydradrive" Link Monsters that were used as materials for its Link Summon, and changing its Attribute to the same as those monsters'. He targets the FIRE "Burn Hydradrive", the WATER "Coolant Hydradrive", and the WIND "Flow Hydradrive". The effect of "Trident Hydradrive Lord" negates the effects of monsters with the same Attribute as it. Bohman activates the Equip Spell Card "Hydradrive Accelerator", equipping it to "Trident Hydradrive Lord". "Trident Hydradrive Lord" is WATER, FIRE, and WIND, so the effect of "Hydradrive Accelerator" makes it unaffected by Playmaker's Spell and Trap effects, and if Playmaker activates a card or effect that targets a card Bohman controls, except "Trident Hydradrive Lord", Bohman can negate the activation once per turn.

"Trident Hydradrive Lord" attacks "Detonate Deleter". During damage calculation, as a Link Monster it points to battled, the effect of "Judgment Arrows" doubles its current ATK ("Trident Hydradrive Lord": 2300 → 4600 ATK). As Playmaker's Link Monster battled Bohman's Link Monster, and the combined Link Ratings of those two Link Monsters is five or more, Playmaker activates his face-down Trap Card "Link Ration", gaining 1000 LP, and if his Link Monster is destroyed by that battle, he Special Summons a "Ration Token" in Defense Position at the end of the Damage Step (Playmaker: 1600 → 2600 LP). The attack continues and "Detonate Deleter" is destroyed (Playmaker: 2600 → 100 LP). As Playmaker's Link Monster was destroyed by that battle, he Special Summons a "Ration Token" (0/0).

Turn 6: Playmaker
Playmaker draws and subsequently Normal Summons "Cyberse Gadget" (1400/300). As "Cyberse Gadget" was Normal Summoned, Playmaker activates its effect, Special Summoning a Level 2 or lower monster from his GY in Defense Position, but its effects are negated. He Special Summons the Level 2 "Catche Eve L2". Playmaker uses the "Ration Token" to Link Summon "Link Spider" (1000/↓) to the Extra Monster Zone. Playmaker activates the effect of "Link Spider", Special Summoning a Level 4 or lower Normal Monster from his hand to his zone it points to. He Special Summons "Protron" (100/100). Playmaker uses "Cyberse Gadget" and "Link Spider" to Link Summon "Flame Administrator" (1200/←↘) to the Extra Monster Zone. As "Cyberse Gadget" was sent from the field to the GY, Playmaker activates its effect, Special Summoning a "Gadget Token" (0/0). Playmaker uses the "Gadget Token" to Link Summon "Link Disciple" (500/↓) to the zone the bottom-right Link Arrow of "Flame Administrator" points to. Playmaker uses "Catche Eve L2" and "Flame Administrator" to Link Summon "Clock Spartoi" (800/↓↘) to the Extra Monster Zone. As "Clock Spartoi" was Link Summoned, Playmaker activates its effect, adding a "Cynet Fusion" from his Deck to his hand. Playmaker activates the effect of "Linkuriboh" in his GY, Tributing a Level 1 monster to Special Summon it. He Tributes the Level 1 "Protron" to Special Summon "Linkuriboh" to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Clock Spartoi" points to. As a monster was Special Summoned to a zone "Clock Spartoi" points to, Playmaker activates its effect, Special Summoning a Level 4 or lower Cyberse monster from his GY to a zone it points to, but its effects are negated, also Playmaker cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn, except Fusion Monsters. He Special Summons "Clock Wyvern" (1800/1000) to the zone the bottom-right Link Arrow of "Clock Spartoi" points to.

Playmaker activates the Spell Card "Cynet Fusion", Fusion Summoning a Cyberse Fusion Monster from his Extra Deck, using monsters from his hand or field as Fusion Material. He fuses "Clock Wyvern", "Link Disciple" and "Clock Spartoi" to Fusion Summon "Cyberse Clock Dragon" (2500/2000) to the Extra Monster Zone. As "Cyberse Clock Dragon" was Fusion Summoned, Playmaker activates its effect, sending cards from the top of his Deck to the GY, equal to the combined Link Ratings of the materials used for its Fusion Summon, then it gains 1000 ATK for each card sent to the GY by this effect, but Playmaker's other monsters cannot attack. The combined Link Ratings of the Link-1 "Link Disciple" and the Link-2 "Clock Spartoi" are three, so Playmaker sends the top three cards of his Deck to the GY ("Cyberse Clock Dragon": 2500 → 5500 ATK). During the Main Phase 1, Bohman activates the effect of "Hydradrive Cycle", paying 400 LP and declaring FIRE to Special Summon a FIRE "Hydradrive Token" (0/0) to Playmaker's field. Bohman activates the effect of "Trident Hydradrive Lord", targeting a face-up monster Playmaker controls and changing the Attributes of all face-up monsters Playmaker currently controls to the same as the targeted monster's, until the end of the turn. While Playmaker controls a Link Monster, the effect of "Cyberse Clock Dragon" prevents monsters Bohman controls from targeting other monsters Playmaker controls for attacks, and prevents Bohman from targeting other monsters Playmaker controls with card effects, so Bohman targets the DARK "Cyberse Clock Dragon".

"Cyberse Clock Dragon" attacks "Trident Hydradrive Lord". During damage calculation, as a Link Monster it points to battled, the effect of "Judgment Arrows" doubles its current ATK ("Trident Hydradrive Lord": 2300 → 4600 ATK). The attacks continues and "Trident Hydradrive Lord" is destroyed (Bohman: 250 → 0 LP).

Aftermath[edit]

During the Duel, Playmaker resolved himself to be the real Playmaker when he questioned Bohman about who kidnapped him during the Lost Incident. After the Duel, the statues on which they were Dueling crumbled, so Playmaker was unable to retrieve Jin's consciousness data. However, Harlan taunted Playmaker, vowing that his brother, Bohman would return.
