During the event, players could complete Duels against various opponents, in order to earn points to fill up their Duel Meters and subsequently claim rewards from doing so, similar to a Duel-A-Thon. However, the unique difference that set it apart from Duel-A-Thons was the addition of random appearances of Bonz in Duel World (referred to as "Spooky Bonz" during the event). Additionally, the probability of an incoming "Spooky Bonz" appearance could be continually increased by Dueling any Duelist (Standard or Legendary) in any Duel World, excluding Duels at the Gate.
"Spooky Bonz" would only appear in Duel World (DM), and could not be accessed at the Gate. "Spooky Bonz" also would not appear in Duel World while the player was using Bonz as their active character.

If a player disconnected (and did not resume) or surrendered from an applicable Duel, they would not receive any points from that Duel.
In addition to Daily Rewards and Cumulative Rewards, players also witnessed unique cutscenes during the event as they achieved certain milestones in terms of accumulated points.
StorylineEdit
During the event, once the player logs into Duel Links for the first time since the event started (or if they were already logged-in at the time, then immediately when they entered one of the four Duel World outdoor locations, if they weren't at one already), they will encounter a cutscene of Bella in Duel World (DM) at night-time, outside of the Card Studio. A dark silhouette appears behind Bella, and hesitantly asks, "Umm... Excuse me..." Bella turns around, surprised, but ends up shrieking in terror at what she sees, and runs off. The dark silhouette is taken aback by what happened, and pauses, before his silhouette is unveiled as Bonz. Bonz asks aloud why everyone keeps running from him, when all he wants to do is Duel. However, he ends up spotting a card on the ground, and remarks that the girl must have dropped it. He pauses for a moment, before slowly chuckling.
When the player manages to achieve or surpass the 150 point milestone in the event, they will encounter a second night-time cutscene in Duel World (DM), outside of the Gate, that begins with a frightened Bella asking Joey Wheeler for help, claiming that a ghost is chasing her. Joey stutters, "A g-g-ghost?" before nervously saying he doesn't like those types of things. Bella sniffles, and tells him that she was so spooked that she lost her "precious card". Téa Gardner then asks Bella if she wants them to find the card for her, to which Bella replies, "Can you? Please?" as it is too scary for her to do on her own. Téa cheerfully says it's not a problem, and prompts Joey to start searching. Surprised, Joey quickly asks why him; Téa responds by asking Joey if he expects her (Téa) to fight a ghost. Under his breath, Joey replies that Téa is scarier. Téa cheerfully asks if Joey said something, to which Joey remains silent. Yugi Muto then reassures Joey, saying that he'll help him too. In response, Bella timidly thanks all of them. Joey then asks Yugi if he's sure about this, as they aren't exactly exorcists. Yugi says he's sure that they'll be fine, but amends it with a "Probably..."
When the player manages to achieve or surpass the 400 point milestone in the event, they will encounter a third night-time cutscene that begins with Joey commenting that it's getting dark, before asking Bella if she's sure "this" is the place (the Duel World [DM] location outside the Card Studio). Bella confirms it, and there is a pause in the meantime, before a shadowed silhouette appears behind the two and asks, "...Hello?" Joey ends up shrieking in fright, which is followed by someone else shrieking in fright. Joey starts blabbing "Ghostghostghostghost! Forrealforrealforrealforreal!" before Yami Yugi appears and tells him to calm down. Joey takes a moment to comprehend what Yugi means, before the silhouette reveals himself as a visibly distressed Bonz. Joey then relaxes, identifying him aloud as Bonz. Bonz gives a forlorn sigh, before Joey has a revelation and claims he just solved the mystery: Bonz was the "ghost" that Bella saw, and was frightening Duelists so that he could steal their cards. Bonz then stammers, "I... I..." as Yami Yugi looks on in silence.
When the player manages to achieve or surpass the 1300 point milestone in the event, they will encounter the last event-exclusive cutscene (in night-time), which briefly recaps Joey's 'revelation' and Bonz's lack of response. However, Yami Yugi then tells Joey to wait. While it was true that "this girl" mistook Bonz for a ghost, she never said he stole her cards, Yami Yugi reasons. Joey attempts a rebuttal by saying that she had her card stolen, but Yami Yugi corrects him: she said she lost it, not that it was "stolen". Joey exclaims "Oops!" followed by Bonz stammering before launching into his explanation. He explains that since the girl dropped her card, he tried returning it to her, but she ran away every time he tried to get her attention. Joey says that of course Bonz spooked her - it's the middle of the night, and he asks Bonz if the latter has looked in a mirror. Bonz then gives Bella her card back ("Shining Friendship"), to which she gives a brief thank-you. He also attempts to give Bella his "Pumpking the King of Ghosts" card, but Joey interjects, confusedly remarking that the card is Bonz's "go-to card". Bonz replies by saying he doesn't need it anymore, since there's a lot of scary people in Duel Links like Bandit Keith, and everyone flees from him (Bonz) in fright. Because of this, Bonz says he's not coming back to Duel Links anymore. Joey sadly says, "Bonz..." before Bella decides to speak up, asking Bonz's permission to Duel him. Bonz replies with "Huh?", to which Bella says that she's sorry that she kept running away, hoping that her apology will change Bonz's mind about no longer Dueling. Bonz is still confused, so Yami Yugi chimes in, saying that she's right and that Joey and he will Duel him anytime Bonz wants, before turning to Joey for confirmation. Joey agrees, and then apologizes to Bonz for his false accusation. Joey continues by saying he doesn't know if this will make up for it, but he'll Duel Bonz "a bazillion times" if Bonz wants. Bonz takes a moment to absorb the comments, before slowly bursting into happy laughter. He then eagerly takes Joey up on his offer, saying that he'll use his Ghost Cards to bury him in "my grave". Bella utters a brief "Eek...!" at Bonz's sudden change in expression, while Joey is also visibly frightened, saying that this is why Bonz is spooking everyone out. The screen then fades to black, before the "Shining Friendship" card briefly flashes on the screen.
