A Type (
In the North American English version of Yu-Gi-Oh! Dark Duel Stories, Type is referred to as Class, abbreviated to Cl. This is changed to Type and Tp respectively in the European English version.[note 1]
There is also Immortal, which only appears in Yu-Gi-Oh! The Duelists of the Roses. Cards that were introduced in that game as Immortal-Type monsters were given one of the 20 Types of that time when they were added to the OCG/TCG.
From "Starter Deck: Link Strike" onward, the word "-Type" was removed from card texts. However, its OCG counterpart retains the word

OCG/TCG
There are 26 different Types in the OCG and TCG.
Non-game Types
- Human (
人 間 ) is used on the non-game card "Everyone's King" - Charisma (カリスマ) is a Type used only as a joke, on "Charisma Token".
- ? is used on some OCG/TCG Token cards to indicate the Token's Type is variable. (See also: List of ?-Type monsters)
Rush Duel
There are 29 different Types in Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel; they include all Types from the OCG/TCG, except for Illusion, Divine-Beast and Creator God. Five of these types (all newly-added ones) are exclusive to certain Fusion Monsters, which are thematically fusions of other Types.

Several one-off Types have appeared in the anime:
- Business appeared only on the card "The★Luke Division Manager" in the Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS anime
- Newspaper appeared only on the cards "Masa on the Mic" and "Cub the Picture Popping Paparazzi" in the Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS anime
- Swindler appeared only on the card "Tracker the Ultimate Treasure Hunter" in the Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS anime
- Son appeared only on the card "Good Yosh the Overcrusher" in the Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS anime
- Swirls appeared only on the card "Adorable Newbie Swirls" in the Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS anime
Immortal is a Type appearing in the video game Yu-Gi-Oh! The Duelists of the Roses. Power Up, Ritual, Spell and Trap are also listed as Types, and the instruction manual also mentions a Comic type, which includes all Toon monsters in the game.
Yokai (
Yu-Gi-Oh! Carddass adds the Types Black Magic, White Magic, Sea Beast, Illusion Magic (which was later introduced to the Konami card game as "Illusion"), and Dragon Magic.
Type line
On cards, the Type line is the first line in the lore/effect box, printed above the card text. This line lists the monster's Type, any Abilities, and any other monster types such as Tuner, Pendulum, or Effect.

All TCG cards follow the English layout for the Type line. Since the introduction of "Starter Deck: Link Strike", Normal Monsters now have "monster Type/Normal" added to differentiate them from Effect Monsters.
