TCG Rulings
- LIGHT and DARK monsters cannot be Special Summoned, face-up or face-down, while “Koa’ki Meiru Drago” is on the field.[1]
OCG Rulings
- While the effect of "Koa'ki Meiru Drago" is active, cards without Attributes can still be Special Summoned, like the Spell/Trap Card Special Summoned by "Magical Hats".[2]
- While the effect of "Koa'ki Meiru Drago" is active, only LIGHT and DARK Attribute monsters cannot be Special Summoned. The effect of "Giant Rat" can be activated because it Special Summons an EARTH Attribute monster. The effect of "Mystic Tomato" cannot be activated because it Special Summons a DARK Attribute monster.[3]
- If the effect of "Cyber Jar" activates while "Koa'ki Meiru Drago" is on the field, then "Cyber Jar" will first destroy "Koa'ki Meiru Drago". Then, "Koa'ki Meiru Drago" is not on the field, so its effect is not applied, so the monster will be Special Summoned normally. However, if "Koa'ki Meiru Drago" is not destroyed by the effect of "Cyber Jar", then LIGHT/DARK monsters to be Special Summoned by the effect of "Cyber Jar" will be sent to the Graveyard instead.[4]
- The effect of "Koa'ki Meiru Drago" prevents monsters from being Special Summoned if the monster's Attribute is LIGHT or DARK while it is in the hand/Deck/etc. If "DNA Transplant" is active and declaring LIGHT or DARK, then monsters that are neither LIGHT nor DARK can still be Special Summoned.[5]
- While the effect of "Koa'ki Meiru Drago" is active, LIGHT and DARK monster cannot be Special Summoned in face-down Defense Position by effects like "The Shallow Grave" or "Spear Cretin".[6]
- While "Koa'ki Meiru Drago" is on the field, the effect of "Cyber-Stein" can still be activated but you cannot choose neither a LIGHT nor a DARK Fusion Monster to Special Summon.[7]
- When the effect of "Koa'ki Meiru Drago" is applying, it is possible to activate "Future Fusion" and the effect that sends the monsters to the Graveyard will resolve normally. After that, during the second Standby Phase, if the Fusion Monster cannot be Special Summoned because of "Koa'ki Meiru Drago"'s effect, it is not Special Summoned. Furthermore, "Future Fusion" remains on the field meaninglessly as a Continuous Spell Card with no effect.[7]

- Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru: While “Macro Cosmos” is active, you cannot send “Iron Core of Koa’ki Meiru” to the Graveyard to pay the cost of keeping your “Koa’ki Meiru” monster on the field. So you must either pay the reveal cost, or destroy the monster.

- The text "During each of your End Phases, destroy this card unless you send 1 "Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru" from your hand to the Graveyard [or else]." of "Koa'ki Meiru" monsters is a Maintenance Cost.[9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20]
- While your hand is revealed by the effect of "Respect Play"/"Ceremonial Bell"/etc, you cannot perform "reveal 1 Normal Trap Card from your hand." as a Maintenance Cost for "Koa'ki Meiru Powerhand". You must either perform either "send 1 "Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru" to the Graveyard" or "destroy this card".[21]
- While "Macro Cosmos" is activate, you cannot perform "send 1 "Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru" to the Graveyard" as a Maintenance Cost for "Koa'ki Meiru Doom". You must either perform either "reveal 1 Fiend-Type monster from your hand." or "destroy this card".[22]
- The text "During each of your End Phase, destroy this card unless you send 1 "Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru" from your hand to the Graveyard." of "Koa'ki Meiru Valafar" is a Maintenance Cost. It cannot be negated by the effect of "Skill Drain", so you must still pay the Maintenance Cost during your Standby Phases [sic].[23]
