Card Rulings:The Dark - Hex-Sealed Fusion
Contents
OCG Rulings
- The effect "You can Tribute Fusion Material Monsters on the field, including this face-up card; Special Summon 1 corresponding DARK Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck" is an Ignition Effect. (It does not target. Tributing Fusion Material Monsters listed on a DARK Fusion Monster, including "The Dark - Hex-Sealed Fusion" itself, is a cost to activate this effect.)[1]
- If Special Summoning "Gatling Dragon" using the effect "Special Summon 1 corresponding DARK Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck", you must Tribute "The Dark - Hex-Sealed Fusion" itself and either "Barrel Dragon" or "Blowback Dragon".[1]
- The Special Summon performed by the effect "Special Summon 1 corresponding DARK Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck" is not treated as a Fusion Summon. Also, the monsters Tributed to activate that effect are not treated as Fusion Materials.[1]
- You can activate the effect of "The Dark - Hex-Sealed Fusion" to Special Summon "Rune-Eyes Pendulum Dragon". In that case, since "Rune-Eyes Pendulum Dragon" was not Special Summoned by a Fusion Summon, its effects "it is unaffected by your opponent's card effects this turn" and "Apply the appropriate effect" are not applied.[2]
Previously Official Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been declared unofficial by Konami.[3] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise. - When you use this monster's second effect, you also get its first effect. So this monster enables you to perform a Special Summon of a Fusion Monster without "Polymerization", etc., and also acts as a "substitute" for one of the Fusion Material Monsters.
- Using the second effect of this monster does not "properly" Fusion Summon the Fusion Monster. So it cannot be revived from the Graveyard, etc. If you use "Polymerization" then you can revive the Fusion Monster from the Graveyard, even if you used this monster as a "substitute" Fusion Material Monster.
- To use the second effect of this monster, you must Tribute this monster plus the legal Fusion Material Monster(s) written on the Fusion Monster. For example, to Special Summon "B. Skull Dragon" you must Tribute "The Dark - Hex-Sealed Fusion" as well as either "Red-Eyes B. Dragon" or "Summoned Skull".
- This monster's second effect cannot be used to Special Summon Fusion Monsters that can only be Summoned by Fusion Summon, such as "Dark Paladin".
Fusion Substitute Monster Rulings
OCG Rulings
- The effect "You can substitute this card for any 1 Fusion Material Monster, but the other Fusion Material Monster(s) must be correct." does not have any classification. It is not an Ignition, Trigger, Quick, or Continuous Effect. (This effect does not target.)[13][14][15][16][17]
- Using "King of the Swamp" as a Fusion Material does not start a Chain Link.[13][14][15][16][17]
- 1 "King of the Swamp" can be used as a Fusion Material to Fusion Summon a monster that requires 3 monsters like "Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon". The other 2 Fusion Materials must be correct. (To Fusion Summon "Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon", you can use "Blue-Eyes White Dragon + "Blue-Eyes White Dragon + "King of the Swamp" as Fusion Materials.)[13][14][15][16][17]
- The effect "You can substitute this card for any 1 Fusion Material monster." of a monster like "King of the Swamp" is not applied while the monster is banished. If you activate "Parallel World Fusion", then you cannot use it as a substitute for a Fusion Material.[18]
- The effect "You can substitute this card for any 1 Fusion Material Monster" of a monster like "King of the Swamp" or "Goddess with the Third Eye" is not applied while the monster is in the Deck.[19]
- When resolving "Dark Calling", you can use a monster like "King of the Swamp" as a substitute for a Fusion Material. However, if you are Fusion Summoning a Fusion Monster like "Evil HERO Dark Gaia" which does not specifically name cards ("1 Fiend-Type monster + 1 Rock-Type monster"), or a monster like "Dark Balter the Terrible" with the text "A Fusion Summon of this monster can only be conducted with the above Fusion Material Monsters", then you cannot use a monster like "King of the Swamp".[20]
- When Fusion Summoning a monster like "Gem-Knight Ruby", "Gem-Knight Aquamarine", or "Gem-Knight Topaz" with the text "Must first be Fusion Summoned with the above Fusion Material Monsters.", you cannot use the effect "You can substitute this card for any 1 Fusion Material Monster" of a monster like "Goddess with the Third Eye" or "King of the Swamp".[21][22]
- When Special Summoning "Chimeratech Fortress Dragon" or "XYZ-Dragon Cannon", you cannot send to the Graveyard a monster like "Goddess with the Third Eye" as a substitute for a Fusion Material.[23]
- When Fusion Summoning "Elemental HERO Absolute Zero" from the Extra Deck, you cannot use the effect "You can substitute this card for any 1 Fusion Material Monster" of a monster like "Goddess with the Third Eye". However, "Beastking of the Swamps" and "King of the Swamp" are WATER monsters, so they can be used as Fusion Materials.[24]
- When Fusion Summoning "Barbaroid, the Ultimate Battle Machine", you cannot use a monster like "Goddess with the Third Eye" or "King of the Swamp" as a Machine-Type or "Roid" monster.[25]
- When Fusion Summoning "Cyber End Dragon", "Cyber Twin Dragon" , "Fiend Skull Dragon", "Ryu Senshi", "Super Vehicroid Jumbo Drill", or "UFOroid Fighter", you cannot apply the effect of a monster like "King of the Swamp".[26][27][28][29][30][31]
- The effect of "Supply" can also return Fusion Substitute Monsters like "King of the Swamp" to your hand.[32]
- Since the Special Summon performed by "Miracle Contact" is not treated as a Fusion Summon, you cannot use the effect "You can substitute this card for any 1 Fusion Material Monster" of a monster like "King of the Swamp".[33]
- If you use a monster like "King of the Swamp" instead of "Elemental HERO Neos" when Fusion Summoning "Elemental HERO Neos Knight", then the ATK of "Elemental HERO Neos Knight" only increases by half the ATK of the Warrior-Type monster.[34]
- Example: If you use "Marauding Captain" and "King of the Swamp" to Fusion Summon "Elemental HERO Neos Knight", then "Elemental HERO Neos Knight" will only have 3100 ATK.[34]
